Jiang Xiaxia’s words left the three adults present stunned.

Jiang Hua was the first to regain her composure, reaching out to grip Jiang Xiaxia’s shoulder. "Xiaxia, what are you talking about—'those days'?"

Jiang Xiaxia tilted her head, looking at her grandmother in confusion. "The days... regarding the military, right?"

Did they not know? She remembered that this information should have been made public long ago!

The three adults looked at the matter-of-fact expression on the little girl's face. Initially shocked, they soon recalled what she had been through and found it understandable.

Those damned spies!

Though the three adults said nothing, their eyes met, conveying a shared, burning rage.

Jiang Xiaxia, sensing that the adults were acting strangely, pulled a newspaper from her pocket, glanced at it, and pointed to a section: *Corpses can be studied.*

Jiang Jing looked at the little girl. Seeing that she showed no sign of fear when discussing corpses, he realized she must have spent a long time in such environments. His eyes reddened. He ruffled Jiang Xiaxia’s hair roughly, his voice raspy. "Alright, Uncle knows! Uncle will handle this matter properly!"

Jiang Xiaxia stared at her uncle with suspicion, muttering to herself. She had a sinking feeling that her uncle was thinking of something strange again.

"I’m taking her back. You two stay here."

Watching this, Jiang Hua felt a surge of heartache for the little girl’s past.

Jiang Jing moved to follow, but Jiang Hua offered a faint, calm smile and waved her hand. "Don't worry. When I traveled alone to find you, I handled the train ride by myself just fine. With Xiaxia accompanying me now, what could possibly happen?"

Hearing this, Jiang Xiaxia immediately straightened her small back, patted her chest with a resounding thud, and declared in her sweet, childish voice, "Protect Grandma! I’m here!"

Recalling the strength the little girl had displayed, Jiang Jing couldn't help but cough softly. "Mother, if you run into any trouble, please keep an eye on Xiaxia. Whatever you do, don't let her get involved."

"What kind of talk is that!" Jiang Hua snapped, raising her hand to give her youngest son a heavy swat on the back of his head. "Xiaxia is so well-behaved and sensible; why would she start a fight? In those past instances, wasn't it always the others who provoked her first?"

Jiang Jing rubbed the back of his head, looking helpless. "Mother, do you remember the state those people were in after she taught them a lesson? I’m just saying, if you run into minor trouble, just step in and scare them off yourself."

The train was a place of mixed company. They had been able to sit securely before only because he and Old Wang were there. Even if they weren't soldiers, their presence as two sturdy young men was enough to deter most people. But now, with only an old woman and a small child left, he couldn't help but worry.

"Stop spouting nonsense!" Jiang Hua shot her son a look of disdain. "With a mouth as long-winded as yours, no wonder you can't find a wife." With that, she picked up the little girl and turned to leave.

Jiang Xiaxia rested her head on Jiang Hua’s shoulder, whispering, "Uncle is grumpy, Uncle is picky."

She glanced at the stern-faced Jiang Jing, thought for a moment, and took the initiative to admit a mistake to her grandmother: "Uncle, nosebleed."

The two statements were completely unrelated, but linked together, they were easily misunderstood.

Wang Lianjun, standing nearby, couldn't help but nudge Jiang Jing, teasing, "Just how beautiful must a girl be to make you get a nosebleed? And you're still turning her down? Are you looking for a fairy to be your wife?"

Jiang Jing gritted his teeth in fury. "Jiang Xiaxia, you get over here! Don't you dare leave with your grandma!" He was going to teach this little girl a lesson!

Jiang Xiaxia shrank back in fear. Seeing Wang Lianjun winking mischievously, she couldn't help but add, "Gave to Uncle, Uncle rejected for me."

Wang Lianjun’s eyelids twitched violently. He kicked out at Jiang Jing. "You’re the one who needs to get over here! See if I don’t beat you to death today!" The nerve of the guy—not wanting a girl himself, yet ruining his own chances!

Jiang Xiaxia saw her uncle’s face turn as black as a soot-covered pot and simply turned her head away. *Sigh, the more I talk, the more I mess up. Better to keep quiet.*

The old woman and the child made their way back to their seats. Before leaving, they had left two coats on their seats and given two cornmeal buns to the people nearby, asking them to watch their spots.

But now, the people around them looked at them with a mixture of helplessness and apology.

On their three seats, one was now occupied by a wrinkled old woman. Opposite them, the seats belonging to Jiang Jing and Wang Lianjun were occupied by a large, plump boy lying horizontally across them.

Jiang Jing’s coat was being treated like a rag by the boy, who was chewing on it one moment and stuffing it into his nose the next.

"Ma'am, those are the seats that belong to me and my son!" Jiang Hua said, her face cold as she approached the old woman.

The old woman rolled her mean, beady eyes. "Isn't there an empty one over there? Go sit there if you want!"

Jiang Hua looked in the direction the old woman pointed. The plump boy, hearing this, immediately sprawled out across the other seat, lifting his fleshy chin in a defiant, "What are you going to do about it?" posture.

Jiang Xiaxia silently clenched her small fists. *Oh boy, my hands are getting itchy.*

Jiang Hua took a deep breath, suppressing the urge to lash out; she wanted to set a good example for Xiaxia. She pulled out their tickets. "Ma'am, these are the tickets we purchased. Look—"

"I can't read. How do I know you aren't using some scrap of paper to trick me?" The old woman didn't even look, shouting, "I don't care! I've been sitting here for a long time. You're trying to steal my seat—is there no justice in this world?"

Jiang Xiaxia watched the old woman, who sprayed spittle from between her yellow, rotting teeth. Disgusted, she leaned back. "Find someone, check!"

Jiang Hua understood. She looked at the old woman and said, "If you truly believe I'm trying to take your seat, we can call the train conductor over to verify whether these tickets are real or fake!"

A flash of guilt crossed the old woman's eyes. She pointed at Jiang Xiaxia and cursed, "A useless, money-losing girl who can't even speak properly, and you dare to jump around in front of me? Let me tell you, a girl like this will never get married. You're just wasting food keeping her around! You might as well give her to my family to be my youngest daughter-in-law! My eldest son is the village accountant; we have no shortage of grain!"

Jiang Hua looked at the old woman’s self-righteous expression and suddenly smiled—a smile of eerie calmness. "It has been many years since anyone dared to call themselves 'the old lady' in front of me."

After saying this, she set Jiang Xiaxia down and gently instructed her, "Don't wander off. Just watch Grandma, understand?"

Jiang Xiaxia looked at Jiang Hua, whose eyes were filled with a fierce light, though her expression remained gentle. She obediently pulled her little jacket tighter around herself.

*Scary. Grandma is about to snap!*
