Chapter Fifteen: The Great-Uncle Master Dies of Anger

The conversation at the neighboring table immediately caught Ye Chen’s attention.
“Master?”
“She was taken as Xiao Chenxin’s disciple because of me.”
“I must grow stronger as quickly as possible. Only then can I save Master.”
Just as Ye Chen was secretly steeling his resolve, he suddenly heard the people at the next table continue their conversation.
“Yesterday, the Radiant Light Sacred Land held a flower-viewing gathering. I actually saw her smile. Let me tell you—just seeing that smile made my whole life worthwhile!”
“Come on, isn’t that a little exaggerated?”
“Hey! What do you know? A beauty’s smile is worth a fortune!”
At this, a trace of suspicion suddenly arose in Ye Chen’s heart.
Master had endured humiliation and placed herself in the tiger’s den. How could she possibly have smiled?
He immediately rose and went over to the neighboring table.
“Would you gentlemen mind telling me more?”
A young man dressed in black saw that it was Ye Chen and immediately laughed.
“Well, boys, we’ve got another competitor.”
“Sit down. I’ll tell you all about it. In this life, you absolutely must see Linghu. She’s an unparalleled beauty. I swear on my fifth limb!”
Ye Chen could not help recalling the face of his master, Linghu.
She was indeed extraordinarily beautiful.
But she was only a remnant soul. He could look at her, but he could never touch her.
The young man suddenly nudged Ye Chen with his elbow.
“Though we’re competitors, truth be told, neither of us stands a chance.”
Ye Chen immediately felt displeased.
His master belonged to him. No one had the right to question that!
Nevertheless, he patiently asked, “Why not?”
The young man grinned and lifted his wine cup.
“At the flower-viewing gathering, it was Xiao Chenxin who personally plucked a flower and gave it to Linghu. Only then did a smile appear upon her icy face.”
“How could we possibly compare with Xiao Chenxin?”
“He’s an ancestor-level figure of the Radiant Light Sacred Land, yet still young. I hear he even possesses a seven-colored Foundation Platform and the bearing of an exiled immortal!”
“An exiled immortal paired with an incomparable beauty—that’s a perfect match. Compared with them, what are we but a bunch of crooked melons and cracked dates?”
At this, Ye Chen could not help clenching his fists.
Master!
His master had actually betrayed him!
His teeth ground together.
A furious roar had already begun echoing in his heart.
“Impossible! Absolutely impossible!”
“How could Master betray us?”
“I saved her back then. She promised she would accompany me to the summit of the world! She promised she would never leave me!”
Suddenly, the mad obsession in Ye Chen’s mind vanished completely.
He drew a deep breath, and even his clenched fists slowly relaxed.

A deep sense of doubt rose within him.
“No, that can’t be right. Only a few days have passed. How could Master possibly have broken her oath?”
“This must be one of Xiao Chenxin’s deliberate schemes.”
“He wants to provoke me, to make me go demand an explanation before I’m strong enough—then deal with me!”
Ye Chen quietly rose and returned to his table, waiting for Lin’er to come back.
The young man suddenly turned toward him and flashed a wide grin.
“Brother, are you really giving up just like that?”
“Xiao Chenxin may have an impressive reputation, and he may possess a seven-colored Foundation Platform, but he’s still only at the Foundation Establishment Realm.”
“Wouldn’t it be enough for us to cultivate to the Golden Core Realm?”
Ye Chen merely smiled indifferently as he concealed his thoughts.
“Not at all. I simply feel that a beauty so far beyond my reach is nothing more than an empty fantasy.”
The young man grinned again.
“That’s true enough.”
…
Over the next several days, Ye Chen would occasionally hear news concerning Linghu and Xiao Chenxin.
It seemed the two of them had been unusually active lately, appearing in public everywhere.
Ye Chen gradually became immune to such talk. At first, hearing those words had made his heart restless; now, he could listen to them calmly from beginning to end.
He became even more convinced that all of this was merely one of Xiao Chenxin’s schemes—a means of disrupting his cultivation plans.
When they once again stood before the entrance to the Beastwood Forest, Lin’er was visibly nervous. Without thinking, she reached out and grasped Ye Chen’s hand.
“Brother Ye Chen, I’m a little scared. The Beastwood Forest is so dangerous.”
Ye Chen merely comforted her in a gentle voice.
“With me here, there’s nothing to fear.”
With that, Ye Chen set off once more and entered the Beastwood Forest to cultivate.
After he left, however, hardly anyone in Mount-Suppressing City continued discussing Linghu and Xiao Chenxin.
After all, everyone walking the path of cultivation had matters of their own to deal with. Few paid much attention to topics such as love and romance.
Within the Radiant Light Sacred Land, Xiao Chenxin listened to the disciples’ report outside the sacred land’s main gate.
He casually rewarded them with a large quantity of spirit stones.
“Well done. It seems Ye Chen has indeed grown considerably.”
“These matters can no longer shake his state of mind.”
One disciple suddenly took a storage ring from his robes and carefully held it out.
“Grand-Granduncle, this contains the images the brothers collected.”
Xiao Chenxin accepted it casually.
“You’ve worked hard.”
After reminding everyone to cultivate diligently, Xiao Chenxin took the storage ring to Su Yao’s residence.
He had come here specifically to avoid Linghu’s notice.
After all, this place possessed the most powerful restrictions in the Radiant Light Sacred Land. They had been refined and perfected over countless ages by innumerable predecessors of the sacred land, making their secrecy unparalleled beneath the heavens.
“Grand-Granduncle, what are you watching?”
Su Yao had appeared behind Xiao Chenxin at some point and was curiously examining the scenes displayed on the image stone.

“Grand-Granduncle, if you had dealt with Ye Chen while killing Liu Ruyan, wouldn’t all these troubles have been avoided?”
After waiting so many days without seeing Xiao Chenxin draw any conclusions or reflect on his actions, Su Yao could no longer stand it.
She had to give her grand-granduncle a proper reminder!
Uprooting the weeds was not meaningless.
It had value!
Xiao Chenxin smiled faintly and waved a hand.
“I wanted to, but I couldn’t eliminate him. Ye Chen has destiny protecting him. Killing him would surely incur the backlash of the Heavenly Dao, and the loss would outweigh the gain.”
Su Yao’s eyes suddenly widened.
“Destiny?”
“Someone blessed by destiny indeed cannot be killed.”
In a flash, she appeared before Xiao Chenxin, clutching the edge of his robe with a worried expression.
“Grand-Granduncle, why have you changed so much?”
“Did Liu Ruyan’s provocation affect you that deeply?”
“You never used to care about such things.”
Xiao Chenxin pondered for a moment. He really wanted to give Su Yao a thumbs-up.
Congratulations. You got the answer right.
Your adorable grand-granduncle had already been angered to death by Liu Ruyan.
Tell me, was that blow not severe enough?
Unfortunately, Xiao Chenxin could not say any of this aloud.
After a moment of thought, he finally found an excuse.
“I had studied these things before. You simply didn’t know.”
“Otherwise, why would I be the master of Red Dust Peak?”
“There are plenty of people stronger than me, and plenty who are more intelligent. So why did the peak master choose me?”
Su Yao was rendered speechless.
Why had he been chosen? Wasn’t it obvious?
Back then, the ancestor had left behind a prophecy stating that only Grand-Granduncle could restore Red Dust Peak to its former glory.
The decline of Red Dust Peak had been ordained by fate. Whoever took over would have been useless.
Since there was such a prophecy, the ancestors might as well treat a dying horse as though it were still worth saving.
Otherwise, would they really have been willing to support Grand-Granduncle for nothing?
Those ancestors were all shrewd old monsters. They calculated everything clearly and precisely, and they would never accept even the slightest loss.
But Su Yao obviously could not say any of that.
Grand-Granduncle had always treated her well. How could she hurt him by telling him such cruel truths?
Suddenly, she reached into the image stone and extracted two separate scenes, sealing them away individually.
Her eyes were filled with delight.
“Grand-Granduncle, would you like me to help?”
“I’m rather looking forward to seeing Linghu’s expression when she sees them.”
