Chapter One: As You Wish, We Shall Divorce

His wife, in anticipation of her first love’s return from abroad, forgot their child at kindergarten.
When Lu Fan picked up his daughter, he happened to see a new post from Jiang Ruxue on her social media.
“Five years, finally as I wished.”
The picture showed two hands clasped together in a car.
She hadn’t blocked Lu Fan from seeing it; rather, she was announcing it to the world.
In Jiang Ruxue’s eyes, Lu Fan was a devoted follower—no matter if she rekindled things with her ex-boyfriend, she believed Lu Fan would never dare to react.
Just like all the times she had belittled him over the past five years, he had always merely smiled and let it pass, pathetically meek.
His daughter’s gaze fell on the photo, and in her soft, childish voice, she asked, “Daddy, does Mommy not want us anymore?”
Lu Fan’s large hand gently rested atop his daughter’s head. “No, she doesn’t.”
This time, however, it would be he who no longer wanted her.
Lu Fan was a disciple of the Celestial Spirit Master, possessing medical skills that could bring the dying back from death and restore flesh to bone.
Years ago, he had been saved by a little girl, and five years ago, he descended the mountain alone, arriving in Haishi.
He encountered Jiang Ruxue, who had been drugged, and recognized her as the benefactor he had been searching for, saving her at the cost of himself.
At that time, the Jiang family was on the brink of bankruptcy. They consulted a fortune-teller, who said they needed a live-in son-in-law to ward off disaster, and Lu Fan happened to appear.
Under the guise of taking responsibility, the Jiang family had Lu Fan marry Jiang Ruxue. From their one night together, their daughter Xiaoyou was born.
After the marriage, Lu Fan discovered someone had cursed the Jiang family, and he secretly spent much effort to dissolve it, helping them rise to prominence.
He kept a low profile, never speaking of his deeds, so the family thought it was simply a stroke of good luck.
For five years, he had treated them sincerely, and his debt of gratitude was repaid. Since Jiang Ruxue’s heart remained with her ex, he chose to let go and set her free.
From now on, he would no longer hold on.
Lu Fan played with his daughter for a while. Only when Xiaoyou fell asleep did he return to the living room to wait.
When the clock struck ten, someone appeared at the entrance.
Jiang Ruxue wore a snow-white, cinched dress that accentuated her slender yet alluring figure. Her delicate, fair face was tinged with a faint blush from drinking, making her appear even more enchantingly beautiful under the lights.
Her first words were not to explain why she forgot to pick up their daughter, but instead, she said coldly, “Lu Fan, let’s get a divorce.”

As she spoke, she pulled out a divorce agreement from her bag, clearly prepared in advance. “I’ll give you ten million and this house. If you have other requests, say them now. Let’s part on good—”
Before she could finish, Lu Fan’s voice rang out, resolute and unwavering: “Alright.”
Jiang Ruxue’s head snapped up in shock, the haze of alcohol clearing slightly as disbelief flashed across her face.
Everyone knew Lu Fan loved her deeply. No matter how she had mistreated him over the years, he had never uttered a word of complaint.
She had expected the divorce to be ugly, that with his level of devotion, he might even kneel, clutching her legs and sobbing, begging her not to leave.
Yet, contrary to all expectations, Lu Fan agreed—cleanly and without hesitation.
For the first time in five years of marriage, Jiang Ruxue truly looked at the man she called her husband.
Lu Fan stood tall, nearly six foot three, with a strong build, broad shoulders, narrow waist, and long legs. He rarely wore suits, favoring casual clothes instead. On closer inspection, his features were flawless—handsome and striking.
In the past, he had mostly appeared as a meek pushover, never like now, with his determined brows and eyes as deep as the sea.
There was now an aura of quiet authority about him, commanding respect without anger, making him seem almost like a stranger.
It took Jiang Ruxue a long moment to find her voice again. “What did you say?”
“I agree to the divorce. I don’t want the house or the money—only Xiaoyou’s custody.”
Jiang Ruxue’s delicate brows knit together. “Lu Fan, do you know what I hate most about you? Even in divorce, you’re so pathetic. I may not like Xiaoyou, but she’s still my daughter. If you take nothing, as a penniless orphan, what can you offer her?”
“Or is this just a ploy to win my sympathy? If that’s your plan, give it up. This divorce will happen no matter what—you’ll never change my mind.”
Her words were sharp, her emotions flaring.
Lu Fan looked steadily into her eyes, his voice unwavering. “Ruxue, let me ask you one last thing—think carefully before you answer. In these five years, even for a single moment, have you ever loved me?”
“No. I have never loved you.” Jiang Ruxue replied without hesitation.
Lu Fan closed his eyes. He had thought that, after five years of servitude, he would eventually thaw her heart.
So be it; they were simply not meant to be.
When he opened his eyes again, all former tenderness was gone, only clarity remained. He lifted his lips and said, “Alright, as you wish. Let’s divorce.”
He picked up the pen and signed his name on the divorce papers.

“Xiaoyou is already asleep. Tomorrow morning, I’ll take her and leave.”
With that, Lu Fan walked to the entryway to change his shoes.
“It’s so late, where are you going?”
“Now that we’re divorced, I’m no longer your husband. It wouldn’t be proper for me to stay here.”
Lu Fan opened the door and left. In the now empty living room, Jiang Ruxue stood alone, her gaze fixed on the divorce agreement.
For five years, she had always looked forward to this moment.
She was the dignified heiress of the Jiang family, and he was just a nobody without status or wealth—how could he possibly be worthy of her?
Yet now that the moment had come, she didn’t feel the joy she had imagined. Instead, she was left with a boundless emptiness.
Yes, this must be his new tactic—playing hard to get. He loved her so much; how could he possibly let go so easily?
There was a one-month cooling-off period before the divorce would be official, and they’d have to go to the civil affairs bureau to finalize it. He would surely find an excuse not to show up.
This scheming man—she had nearly fallen for his trick!
Kicking off her heels, Jiang Ruxue returned to her room. Normally around this time, Lu Fan would brew some herbs she couldn’t name for her to soak her feet in, then massage her calves.
Though she disliked the smell, she had to admit that after soaking, she always felt refreshed, her skin growing smoother and more delicate.
Now, when she went out with her peers, she looked several years younger even without makeup—people often mistook her for a college student.
“Lu Fan, I want to soak my—” Before she could finish, she suddenly remembered he was gone.
Let him go, then. After all, he was just a coward. How could he compare to even a finger of Shen Qianye?
With his false pride, refusing the Jiang family’s money, penniless as he was, he’d surely have to sleep on the streets tonight and come crawling back tomorrow.
Fueled by the alcohol, Jiang Ruxue quickly fell asleep—unaware that, having left the Jiang household, Lu Fan had taken out his phone and, for the first time since descending the mountain, contacted his senior sister.
Half an hour later, the roar of a sports car echoed down the street. An orange Koenigsegg screeched to a halt, and out stepped a blonde woman in a red, form-fitting dress.
She sauntered over to Lu Fan, her shapely figure swaying with every step, heels clicking on the pavement.
“Little junior brother, you finally contacted me! I’ve missed you so much. Come here—let me give you a kiss…”
