Chapter 105: A Series of Strange Events
Wanqing looked over in terror. "Is he crazy?"
“What are you doing, Cheng Che?” Zhang Qinglin’s face was equally shocked. He wanted to rush forward to stop him, but Cheng Che had already strode into the pharmacy. At the moment Zhang Qinglin turned his head, the man in black was already following the bloodstains around the corner.
Zhang Qinglin pushed Wanqing and Chi Tan forward, urging them to leave quickly, then turned and ran toward the pharmacy.
Soon, Cheng Che emerged from the pharmacy, his face covered in soot, clutching a bundle of disinfectants and gauze wrapped in his coat. He gasped, “Cough, cough... Let’s go!”
Just then, the man in black moved with lightning speed and kicked toward Zhang Qinglin. Zhang Qinglin pushed Cheng Che aside with great force, taking the blow himself.
He rolled twice on the ground from the pain in his abdomen and lay there unable to get up.
Cheng Che stopped in his tracks, glaring fiercely. He swiftly shed his coat, wrapped the supplies inside it, and threw them to the ground. Then he spun around and threw several punches at the man in black, who countered with just one hand while kicking Cheng Che repeatedly.
Zhang Qinglin was about to be strangled to death.
“Ah…” Cheng Che shouted as he rushed forward.
Suddenly, a figure burst out of the thick fog and charged at them, crashing into the man in black. The man trembled as he stepped back, a surgical knife deeply embedded in his abdomen, another blade plunged into his arm, blood instantly pouring down his clothes onto the ground.
The man in black’s grip loosened, and Zhang Qinglin collapsed weakly to the ground.
“I’ve killed someone... I’ve killed someone...” the man’s eyes widened in horror, staring at his bloodied hands.
Cheng Che quickly ran over to help Zhang Qinglin up, then glanced at the trembling man beside them. The man in black pulled out the knife from his arm, hunched over, and raised it threateningly toward the man. Cheng Che yanked the latter aside, dodging the attack, and then dashed toward the main hall’s entrance.
They fled outside the hospital, where Chi Tan, sitting in a car, called to them. They climbed into the black sedan, whose origin was unknown, and headed toward Xia Temple.
“Wanqing, tend to your wounds first. Chi Tan, this is for you from Brother Xiaolin…” Cheng Che drove while handing the medical supplies and gauze to the only able-bodied person in the back seat.
Chi Tan took the saline, iodine, alcohol, and gauze and began dressing Wanqing’s arm.
Zhang Qinglin leaned weakly against the side, the kick causing sharp pain whenever he moved his abdomen. He watched silently as Chi Tan treated Wanqing’s wounds.
Only when they reached the mountain road did Cheng Che finally relax a little. He glanced at the passenger seat beside him.
Surprised, he said, “Why are you here? Didn’t you go back to Xia Temple?”
The man in the passenger seat stared blankly at the windshield as if fixated on something, ignoring Cheng Che completely. His expression was strange—whether it was the fear from just stabbing someone with a surgical knife or an excitement from encountering such madness for the first time was unclear.
His lips parted slightly, wrinkles forming on his cheeks, and he was smiling.
Cheng Che thought to himself that the man must have been scared silly, rendered speechless.
As Cheng Che turned the car on a bend, suddenly a hand grabbed the steering wheel, yanking it sharply to the right. The car swerved uncontrollably toward the cliff’s edge. Cheng Che’s face paled as he hurriedly tried to steer back, but another hand grasped the wheel tightly. A voice whispered in his ear:
“Haha… kill her, kill her.”
“You’re crazy! Let go! What are you thinking?” Cheng Che struggled beneath the man’s weight, trying desperately to steer the car away from the cliff.
The black sedan wildly slid along the mountain road. Chi Tan in the back was thrown forward and backward, seeing someone wrestle with Cheng Che over the steering wheel. He lunged forward to pull the attacker off but fell back due to the car’s violent shaking.
He landed on Zhang Qinglin, who was also swaying, gripping the handle above the rear window tightly.
Wanqing, caught off guard, tried to intervene but nearly smashed into the window as the car suddenly tilted.
The entire ride had been quiet, uneventful, but now the strange man Cheng Che brought with them was driving them toward death.
The man still laughed—like a fool. People often say there are no true madmen in this world. In truth, madmen aren’t the frightening ones; it’s the sane ones who lose their minds that are truly terrifying.
At that moment, the rear wheels of the black sedan dangled over the cliff. The whole vehicle tilted sideways and began to roll down the mountain.
“It’s not me. Please don’t follow me anymore. I beg you, don’t follow me,” a strange voice echoed above Zhang Qinglin’s head.
He slowly opened his eyes, realizing his upper body was outside the car, his lower half stuck inside. In front of him, someone was running wildly while shouting.
He moved his legs and slowly pulled himself out of the car. Standing up, he looked at the mangled wreck of the sedan and panicked.
“Chi Tan!” Zhang Qinglin spotted Chi Tan trapped in the back seat. He reached out, pulling him free. Chi Tan’s forehead was injured. Zhang Qinglin laid him flat on the ground and called his name.
When Chi Tan exhaled and regained consciousness, Zhang Qinglin turned and shouted loudly for Cheng Che and Wanqing.
Wanqing was lying on the other side of the car, bruised and scratched, her arm the most severely wounded. Zhang Qinglin helped her sit up, relieved to see her conscious, then hurried to the driver’s seat to find Cheng Che.
“Cheng Che! Cheng Che!” Zhang Qinglin leaned in but found the driver’s seat empty, no one in the front row. A dreadful feeling surged in his heart. Cheng Che wasn’t there—had he been thrown out?
Zhang Qinglin stood and called out again. Wanqing staggered over, her gaze fixed on the battered front of the car and the front seats, her pale face filled with shock. She looked around, then turned to search for Cheng Che.
“Where is Cheng Che?” Wanqing asked, clutching her bleeding arm.
Zhang Qinglin grabbed his thighs with both hands, head bowed, gasping heavily. He forced himself to stay alert. He hadn’t found Cheng Che yet—he couldn’t afford to collapse.
Just then, Wanqing pointed into the distance and shouted, “He’s there!”
