Chapter Fourteen: The Rescue
Qin Changsheng was stunned for only a second before all the alarms in his body began to roar.
When did this happen!?
In the blink of an eye, a massive mountain of flesh and corpses appeared before him—no warning, no process, just suddenly manifesting out of thin air.
Qin Changsheng had no time to ponder the cause. Faced with this mountain of corpses, his instinct was to flee.
“Cao Mengmeng!” He turned around, ready to grab Cao Mengmeng and run, but the figure before him made him freeze for a moment.
Popcorn Hero.
Standing behind him was not Cao Mengmeng, but that Popcorn Hero wearing an emoji mask!
What on earth was going on? Where had Cao Mengmeng and the others present earlier gone? Why were the corpse mountain and Popcorn Hero the only things beside him now?
For a moment, Qin Changsheng felt as if his CPU was about to fry. Fortunately, this had become a regular occurrence for him, and he had long since learned to give up overthinking.
Facing the sudden danger, Qin Changsheng no longer hesitated; his gaze instantly sharpened with resolve.
“Awaken, Momo!” he shouted to the Shanhai Beast Momo above him. Momo immediately sensed his intent and unfurled countless tentacles.
At the tips of these tentacles, under Qin Changsheng’s imagination, sharp curved blades formed—a technique he devised after seeing the Swordman Xifeng Lie. Blades that could shift shape at will were obviously deadlier than mere tentacles.
Qin Changsheng crouched low, ready to strike, directing all the blades toward Popcorn Hero. With Popcorn Hero in front and the corpse mountain behind, he judged that the human opponent would be easier to handle than the monstrous corpse mountain.
Break through Popcorn Hero’s blockade, escape the rooftop first, and deal with everything else later!
Without hesitation, Qin Changsheng prepared to dash forward, but Popcorn Hero suddenly raised both hands.
Was he about to detonate an explosion again?
At such close range, Qin Changsheng wasn’t sure if Momo’s defenses could withstand Popcorn Hero’s blast. He didn’t want to take that risk—he had to take Popcorn Hero down before any explosion!
Charging forward, Qin Changsheng pushed off the ground, but Popcorn Hero quickly waved his hands, looking panicked, the emoji mask on his head sweating profusely.
What was going on? Qin Changsheng frowned. Was he... begging for mercy?
Before he could think further, a sharp electric shock surged from above, warning him of another powerful threat approaching—no, it was already very close!
In an instant, Qin Changsheng sensed something unusual behind him. There was only the corpse mountain in that direction, but the sensation was different from when he first encountered it.
Previously, the corpse mountain’s jagged meat-cutting blades had almost cleaved him in two, leaving a deep impression of its attacks.
But this time, the assault from behind wasn’t a wide, sweeping slash but a series of piercing stabs—countless pointed strikes!
How could the corpse mountain attack like this?
Popcorn Hero was no longer the greatest threat. Qin Changsheng spun around, extending Momo’s blade-tentacles to block the stabbing attacks. At the critical moment, metal clashed with a sharp ringing sound.
Only then did Qin Changsheng fully see what was attacking him: countless sharp sword blades.
The corpse mountain, swollen and grotesque, had countless hands protruding from gaps between the entwined bodies—each hand gripping a long sword, thrusting at him relentlessly.
This move was completely unexpected. Qin Changsheng thought he had successfully blocked the corpse mountain’s attack, but the next second, that bulky, heavy mass suddenly accelerated like a flesh projectile, lunging toward him.
As the oppressive bulk closed in, the many arms thrusting swords moved so fast they left afterimages in Qin Changsheng’s vision.
Momo above seemed shocked as well. The countless blades connected to tentacles whipped rapidly, weaving a net of glimmering sword light. Both sides moved faster than Qin Changsheng could visually track.
Yet even so, he could clearly sense Momo was losing ground—its blades only managing to defend against the stabbing strikes, utterly unable to counterattack.
“Whoosh!” A sword blade broke through Momo’s defense and stabbed in. Qin Changsheng reacted swiftly, dodging by tilting his head, but the scattered sword energy still grazed his face, leaving a faint, stinging cut.
That slight sting sparked a familiar sensation within him. It felt like he had experienced this touch before, but how could that be...?
While he was pondering this, Momo finally gave out a pained howl: “Too fast! Momo can’t hold!”
This so-called strongest Shanhai Beast had its limits. Qin Changsheng was trapped: Popcorn Hero behind, corpse mountain ahead. He could only defend one side at a time, any careless move risking a deadly pincer attack.
What to do now? The corpse mountain’s blades drew ever closer, and Momo’s energy was nearly spent. Qin Changsheng was caught in the middle, helpless.
What could he do?
“Come quickly!” A voice suddenly sounded nearby—familiar. Was it an ally?
Qin Changsheng’s heart leapt with joy as he looked toward the voice, but upon just a glance, his spirits plummeted.
What the hell was that!?
Suddenly before him appeared a voluptuous figure, curves in all the right places, so alluring that even a man would blush and struggle to look away.
Until he saw her face.
Despite the fiery figure, her entire body was stained blood red, dripping with thick, viscous fluid resembling plasma onto the ground. And atop that fiery woman’s neck was not a beautiful face, but a terrifying fish head!
Its sharp teeth, like two rows of surgical blades interlaced within the mouth, and countless reversed scales blossoming where the neck joined the head, evoked an intense sense of claustrophobia and dread.
Another horrifying monster! Qin Changsheng felt overwhelmed, as if he had stirred a nest of beasts. Corpse mountain, Popcorn Hero, and now this new blood-red creature.
The new monster was even closer, its razor teeth easily capable of tearing open Qin Changsheng’s throat.
This was it—he was done for!
His expression sagged instantly. Despite his mind racing, no solution came to save him from the looming peril.
If given the choice, Qin Changsheng might even prefer to die at this new monster’s hands. Although the creature’s face was grotesque, its alluring figure might have had some appeal.
If only those blood-red claws were a bit less scaly, it might have been more to his taste.
Wait...
Blood-red claws covered in scales?
His previously resigned gaze suddenly brightened. He recognized those claws!
When he first met Cao Mengmeng, though he never saw her full form, those blood-red, scaly claws remained etched in his memory. That claw had nearly killed him, yet also saved him.
This suddenly appearing blood-red monster was not an enemy—it was his ally!
