Chapter 42: MVP
100?
Qin Changsheng stood there, completely stunned. How could he possibly have only 100 points?
Beside him, Cao Mengmeng had started with 8,600 points. The man who had just shown him how to check his point panel had a staggering 50,000 points.
But he only had 100? What could he even do with so few points?
"Pfft—" The burly man who couldn't afford a room earlier couldn't help but laugh out loud. "100... buddy, what were you doing in the last game? Just drifting along the whole time? With 100 points, you can't even afford a bowl of porridge!"
Qin Changsheng’s mouth hung wide open, unable to utter a single word. He couldn't fathom why his points were so low.
The burly man behind him continued to rub salt into the wound: "And you had the nerve to ask for the most expensive room right off the bat? Who are you trying to impress? It's hilarious! You’d be better off sleeping on the floor outside! Oh, wait, never mind, I’m sorry—with that pathetic amount of points, you probably can't even afford a blanket, hahahahaha!"
The burly man’s laughter was grating, like knives stabbing into Qin Changsheng’s back. A massive sense of humiliation washed over him; Qin Changsheng wished he could crawl into a hole and hide.
Cao Mengmeng, standing nearby, didn't know what to say, so she patted him on the back. "It’s okay, I have enough points. If worst comes to worst, I’ll lend you some."
Dong Huan also nodded. "Yeah, brother, we’re on the same team. Don’t take such a small thing to heart."
His teammates' words provided no comfort; instead, they caused Qin Changsheng’s suppressed emotions to swell. Following the humiliation came anger.
Why did that muscle-brained idiot have the right to mock him? If it weren't for Qin Changsheng, these people would have been dead and buried in the first game!
Did he exhaust himself saving all these people just to be mocked and humiliated?
Screw it! Since he didn't die before, he would just help push them over the edge!
In an instant, a murderous intent surged into Qin Changsheng’s heart. He was not only angry at the burly man who mocked him but also resentful of the teammates who pitied him. Everyone was molding him into a pathetic little brat.
If they loved looking down on him so much, then let them see who was truly pathetic!
Qin Changsheng did not realize that, in his own eyes, a thick, black substance was gradually consuming everything.
Just as that uncontrollable murderous intent was about to be unleashed from Qin Changsheng’s heart, a voice suddenly interrupted him: "Wait, take a closer look."
That one sentence shattered the darkness gathering in Qin Changsheng’s eyes, bringing him back to his senses instantly. What was he just thinking?
Though he was awake, the impression of that murderous impulse lingered in his mind. He felt a chill run down his spine, startled by the thoughts he had just harbored.
He had actually thought about killing someone? That wasn't his true self!
Or... was that actually what he truly wanted to do?
Qin Changsheng shook his head vigorously. It seemed he was truly exhausted; his brain felt like mush!
To distract himself from those terrifying thoughts, Qin Changsheng quickly refocused on the words that had interrupted him.
The speaker was the delicate-looking young man from before.
The man extended a slender finger, tapped the point panel appearing in front of Qin Changsheng, and pointed to the end of the number. "Look closely. The unit on your panel is 'ten thousand'."
Ten thousand?
Qin Changsheng froze for a moment, following the direction the man pointed. He looked carefully and saw that after the number 100 on the panel, there was indeed a very small "ten thousand" character.
One million. That was his real point total!?
The entire room fell into a dead silence. Everyone was stunned by this sudden turn of events.
Even Qin Changsheng couldn't immediately accept this rollercoaster ride from hell to heaven. Looking at the points displayed on the panel, his vision blurred slightly.
After a long silence, the first to break it was the burly man from earlier.
"How is this possible!?" The burly man’s jaw nearly hit the floor. "Are you cheating? How could you possibly have so many points?"
"This..." Honestly, Qin Changsheng didn't know either.
He had felt his points couldn't be as low as 100, but he never expected it to be one million.
Cao Mengmeng quickly pulled up her own point panel to compare. Unlike Qin Changsheng, her remaining 7,943 points did not have a "ten thousand" unit suffix.
Only Qin Changsheng’s points displayed as one million, meaning his points had broken through the original limit, forcing the panel to change units to accommodate the figure.
But where did so many points come from?
Before Qin Changsheng could figure it out, the young man spoke again: "Click the top right corner to view your account details."
Only then did Qin Changsheng notice a button protruding from the top right corner of the transparent panel.
He reached out and pressed it. The screen instantly changed to a list of numbers, each followed by a description.
"Successfully cleared the 'Heaven' group game. +5,000"
"Actively repelled a player possessing a Mountain-Sea Beast. +2,000"
"Assisted in killing a player possessing a Mountain-Sea Beast. +1,500"
"Received player assistance. +1,500"
"Killed the BOSS Corpse Mountain. +500,000"
"Became the MVP of the 'Heaven' group. +500,000"
Qin Changsheng understood the earlier values, but the last two items—each adding 500,000 points—left him completely baffled again.
Wasn't the gap a bit too huge!?
It seemed that every action he took in the game earned him a score.
And killing the BOSS Corpse Mountain alone had earned him 500,000 points!
Was this massive value too terrifying?
Qin Changsheng stared blankly at the score on the panel, wondering for the umpteenth time if he had misread it.
And what about this final 500,000-point MVP bonus? What did that mean?
"It means you were the best-performing player in the last game."
Qin Changsheng hadn't spoken his thoughts aloud, but the young man standing before him seemed to read his mind, answering his confusion directly.
"Me? Best-performing?" Qin Changsheng pointed at himself, disbelieving.
With so many people surviving, he was the most impressive one?
This was unimaginable in his past life.
For so many years, Qin Changsheng had a very clear understanding of his own position. He was the most unremarkable person in his entire class.
No social standing, average grades, and not even worth the effort for anyone to bully him.
He was neither a flower nor grass, just a small mushroom in a dark corner.
Aside from his receding hairline, he was truly mediocre at everything.
Having lived such a life, could he really be an MVP here?
The intense contrast left Qin Changsheng feeling bewildered.
He turned around and saw his teammates, including Cao Mengmeng, looking at him with eyes that had shifted from pity to envy and admiration.
The burly man who had been mocking him now wore an expression of jealousy so thick it could practically be squeezed out.
Amidst these two extreme emotions, a sense of superiority he had never expected bubbled up in Qin Changsheng’s heart.
So that’s how it is.
He suddenly understood why Chen Yuanyuan had acted like she didn't want to return to her past life.
Although this place was filled with danger compared to his old life, and one had to face the threat of death at every moment, Qin Changsheng could finally feel his own value here.
He was useful. He was powerful.
Qin Changsheng looked at the central desk. The bespectacled man behind it was already offering him a respectful smile.
"What did you say the most expensive room cost again?" Qin Changsheng leaned against the desk once more. "Doesn't matter. I'll take it!"
