Chapter Five: Jiang Xian Doesn't Have a Single Fan?

Rong Fan came before everyone and apologized with refined courtesy. “Sorry, everyone. I’m late.”
“No, no, it’s fine. We only got here a little while ago ourselves.” As Jiang Ke spoke, she pretended to be coquettish and brushed back her hair.
Rong Fan showed no reaction to her flirtatious display.
Standing beside Jiang Ke, Li Jiale clearly noticed her little gesture, and the corners of her lips curved into a smile.
All the guests had arrived, and the program officially began.
“Welcome to the reality show *Lavish Beyond Reason*. First, let’s introduce the distinguished friends we’ve invited.”
“Please welcome Rong Fan, heir to the Rong Group; Lai Bingfu, president of the Lai Group; Sheng Ya, vice president of the Hao Sheng Group; Li Jiale, heiress of the Li Group; Zheng Jin, young master of the Zheng Group; and Jiang Ke, heiress of the Jiang Group.” The director paused before adding, “And Jiang Xian.”
As each person was introduced, the camera moved to them in turn, and everyone waved at the lens.
[This lineup is incredible!!!]
[It would be perfect without Jiang Xian. Then it would be a full lineup of true billionaires.]
[For some reason, I feel as though I’m looking at a whole lot of money standing here.]
“As everyone knows, our show is called *Lavish Beyond Reason*. As the name suggests, this is a reality show centered around spending money. Rather than being paid by the production team to participate, our guests will be required to spend their own money.”
“From this point onward, all the money the guests spend during the show will be pooled together. Every penny contributed by the guest who spends the most will be donated in that guest’s name to impoverished mountain regions, so that the children there can attend school and the elderly can have enough to eat.”
“That guest will also receive the Nationally Certified Best Young Person Award. In addition, our livestream will occasionally give away grand prizes. As for what those prizes are, that will be decided by the guests themselves. So now, let’s enter this lavish world together with our viewers and witness who will ultimately prove to be the most extravagant tycoon of them all!”
The director’s final, impassioned cry roused the viewers completely. In particular, after hearing that the guests would be giving away grand prizes, the livestream chat erupted. Viewers passionately debated who would emerge as the ultimate tycoon, while countless others called for good luck.
[Grand prizes, grand prizes! I want a grand prize! May good fortune cling to me—let this show explode!]
[Claiming the grand-prize luck. No side effects guaranteed.]
[I think Rong Fan will spend the most in the end. After all, his family ranks third on the global rich list!]

[No, no. Haven’t you heard the saying that the richer people are, the stingier they become? But it could still be him. After all, the ultimate purpose of this show is to gild these people’s reputations.]
As the camera moved, the guests boarded sightseeing carts and followed the production staff around the grounds where they would be filming over the next few days.
“We are currently at the border between Fucheng and Lucheng. This is a manor called Ayask. Its total investment exceeds ten billion. It includes hot springs, swimming pools, golf courses, a castle, camping grounds, restaurants, and more—a complete destination for leisure, entertainment, and fine dining.”
A drone circled above the manor, yet even from the air, it was impossible to capture the entire estate.
The viewers in the livestream were all stunned by what they saw.
[Good heavens, the rich really are rich! I’ll never be able to visit a place like this in my entire life.]
[Watching a reality show about rich people counts as broadening my horizons.]
[I just searched online. This manor was built by Kos, who ranks second on the global rich list. A single day of spending here would equal several months of our wages!]
The scenery along the way consisted of nothing but green hills, clear waters, gardens, and castles.
After roughly ten minutes, the sightseeing cart stopped in front of a building that appeared to be a reception desk.
“Your luggage will be stored here for now. Your accommodations will be determined later through the tasks.”
“What do you mean? We have to earn our accommodations by completing tasks?” Sheng Ya immediately caught the implication in Yang Feng’s words.
“Yes. Your lodging will be assigned according to your rankings in the tasks.”
“What kind of tasks?” Sheng Ya asked, displeasure creeping into her voice. At the company, she was known as a formidable career woman. The employees would all be watching this show. If the tasks were beyond her limits or involved something she was bad at, her carefully cultivated image would collapse. How could she maintain her authority in front of the staff then?
“Don’t worry, goddess. I’m here. If you lose, you can stay at my place.” Zheng Jin caught the scent of an opportunity and immediately went over to curry favor with Sheng Ya.
Sheng Ya was unmoved by his fawning. She had earned her position as vice president through her own ability and had seen every type of person imaginable. She looked down most on rich young men like Zheng Jin, who relied entirely on their families.
“Could it be that President Sheng is afraid?” Lai Bingfu teased when he saw her asking questions so proactively.
“Afraid? I, Sheng Ya, have never known what fear is.”

“You may bring your phones with you. Next, we’ll head to the task location.”
They boarded the sightseeing carts once more. This time, they soon arrived at a lake.
After getting off, everyone stood in a row.
“We’ve prepared seven slips of paper, each listing one of your accommodations for tonight. The options are a tent, a motorhome, a hotel, an apartment, a bed-and-breakfast, a villa, and a castle. We’ll place these slips in the middle of the lake. You’ll need to use one of the available vehicles to reach them. Naturally, whoever arrives first will have first choice.”
“As you can see, there are five types of transportation available: a five-cent hand-rowed boat, an eight-cent pedal boat, a ten-cent kayak, a fifty-cent bamboo raft, and a one-dollar luxury yacht.”
“The hand-rowed boat, pedal boat, and kayak must be operated by yourselves. You may find a partner, but if you don’t have one, you’ll have to row alone, which will certainly be slower. The bamboo raft and luxury yacht will be operated by staff.”
The prices were clearly determined by the vehicles’ speed and whether they required manual labor.
“Jiang Xian, here’s a suggestion for you. The hand-rowed boat costs only five cents, which suits you perfectly. It’s cheap, too.” Li Jiale spoke as though she were being sincerely considerate.
The mockery hidden in her eyes was obvious to anyone with discernment.
Everyone present could tell that Li Jiale seized every opportunity to ridicule Jiang Xian.
Only Jiang Ke wondered inwardly whether Li Jiale had something wrong with her. She kept taking shots at Jiang Xian nonstop—wasn’t she simply giving her more screen time? Jiang Ke and Jiang Xian were the only two people there from the entertainment industry, so they both knew how to seize the spotlight. Li Jiale was practically helping her. Jiang Ke truly couldn’t tell whether she was an ally or an enemy.
The viewers in the livestream were amused by Li Jiale’s remark as well.
[I suddenly realized that even the cheapest hand-rowed boat would make me hesitate for a long time before spending the money. Jiang Xian, I guess we do have something in common.]
[Hahaha, that hand-rowed boat is killing me. Isn’t it the kind children sit in and rock back and forth? Jiang Xian probably isn’t suited for it.]
[Looks like Jiang Xian really is hopeless. She’s been in the entertainment industry for so long, yet she doesn’t even have a single fan speaking up for her. Don’t tell me she has no fans at all!]
