Words Upon Release

Above Chang'an Sir Dybala 696 words 2026-03-24 19:55:32

Launching just after midnight tomorrow.

As usual before a release, I wanted to write a few words of reflection. I’ve pondered for a long time, feeling there’s much to say, yet when my fingers hovered over the keyboard, I couldn’t find the right place to begin.

Even writing a simple preface has me stuck—truly speechless.

...

My previous three historical online novels were all set against real historical backdrops, where I wrote with ease and confidence. If I were to start another, I imagine I’d grasp it even more firmly.

But I’m honestly worn out. Longtime readers have probably sensed it between the lines.

Fatigue stifles inspiration; I find myself writing just for the sake of writing, with no fresh ideas.

So, I decided to try a new direction.

Trying is taking a risk. Bold as I am, I not only chose a fictional setting but made the protagonist a native.

The fabricated setting can still be salvaged, but a native protagonist is like banging one’s head against a wall.

I told myself: take the risk—even if it ends in failure.

And so, everyone has met Yang Xuan, this native boy!

After enduring harsh treatment from his parents, his longing for family grew ever stronger.

When offered a place by the Wang family, he refused without hesitation.

In Chang’an, the death of Yan Cheng drove him to madness and led him to attempt an assassination on He’s advisor.

A time traveler wouldn’t do such a thing. Anyone who has read my previous three works knows this—whether it’s generosity, broken legs, or a jinx.

Afterward, this boy watched the world coldly from within the city of Chang’an.

He saw much, and he learned much.

This child then journeyed to the northern frontier, with more to come for all of you.

...

A new book has begun. Seeing familiar readers commenting and appearing in the list of supporters brings me peace.

I have no certainty how many will enjoy this new work, which breaks from all previous formulas.

But, after all, it has arrived...

Launching at midnight—looking forward to your support.
