Chapter Fourteen: Not Recommended for Consumption
“Mr. Night Wanderer, as a token of my gratitude, once my first batch of crops matures, I will send you a portion for free—just pay on delivery!” Hua Yun paused briefly. “It’s a confidence that even though you have left, if you were to return, it would be the same.”
The Most Beautiful Sister in the World: What’s going on? Sending vegetables?
Know-It-All: Star荒 Construction? Didn’t enter the wrong livestream.
Rich and Powerful: Here to worship the big boss!
Humble Viewer: Worship the big boss +1.
Night Wanderer: What’s so tasty about vegetables? I’m sick of eating them!
He just didn’t understand why some people liked these things so much—they were bland and awful! People always talked about how delicious they were, but in his opinion, the stuff his grandfather grew was better off being turned into various flavored nutrient liquids. At least those had some taste. Even if they were unpleasant to drink, you could just gulp them down!
“Thank you to the newcomers in the livestream.” Because many new viewers had entered, Hua Yun didn’t pay attention to Night Wanderer’s reply. Instead, she saw one newcomer after another, likely attracted by the earlier generous tip.
“I’m currently working on the荒星 Construction project. In a couple of days, I can give everyone a tour, but first, I need to plant some crops,” Hua Yun said.
There were quite a few people, and she wanted to use her vegetable-escape technique. Mainly because there were too many people, she couldn’t keep up, and it felt a bit overwhelming. It was also a good opportunity to plant vegetables.
Turning around, Hua Yun took out some seeds—these were the most common cabbage seeds in the galaxy. It really was just ordinary cabbage, found everywhere, even in the interstellar realm.
During this time, Hua Yun had researched and found that very few vegetable varieties had survived from the old Blue Star; or rather, most were mutated forms.
Even the cabbage was no longer the ordinary kind!
Hua Yun sectioned off a small patch of land and expelled the suppressive energy within it. Soon, she noticed her supernatural energy was depleting rapidly.
Fortunately, the energy in that small soil patch was already exhausted.
It seemed she couldn’t plant too much at the start and needed to rethink her strategy. With that in mind, Hua Yun casually took out two other seed types issued by the academy. Since she couldn’t have many seeds, she would diversify the species instead.
She tossed the cabbage seeds into the little holes dug by a robot and covered the soil.
While activating her powers to nurture the cabbage seeds, she also used her mental energy to monitor their status.
Once the cabbage sprouted, she applied the same method to the other two plants.
Know-It-All: Is this enough, streamer? I remember students at the Agricultural Academy use plant growth serum.
“For now, this will do,” Hua Yun replied. The interstellar planting system was indeed quite different from her previous life. Plant growth serum was a product developed by the galaxy.
“That’s it for today’s livestream. See you tomorrow!” Time was almost up, and night was falling. She still had some time left to find something to eat.
---
Before the newcomers could even react, the livestream had already ended.
After closing the stream, Hua Yun immediately went to the riverbank. Since ancient times, humans have survived by living off the mountains and rivers.
This was her first time in the wilds of the interstellar region, a good chance to take a look. As the name荒星 implied, the place was truly desolate.
At the water’s edge, she occasionally spotted fish swimming.
However, none were familiar to her. Some looked vaguely recognizable, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t recall what they were.
“Looks like the mutations are thorough, or perhaps these creatures are completely different from those on Blue Star,” Hua Yun muttered.
For a Chinese person, ingredients are simply edible or not, so she decided to give it a try.
Though the data on her sympathy device was complete, this was still an unfamiliar environment. She dared not wade into the water recklessly, so she gathered some fine thread and fashioned a simple fishing rod, hoping to test if fishing could work here.
Her bait was a mixture of the galaxy’s nutrient liquid and mashed plants. Whether it was effective, Hua Yun had no idea.
She could only try.
With that thought, Hua Yun sat on a rock by the shore and began fishing calmly.
Perhaps because the area was rarely visited by people, the aquatic creatures showed no caution, or for some other reason, a fish soon took the bait.
Hua Yun intended to wrestle the fish a bit before pulling it ashore, as she had done in her previous life. Unexpectedly, as she pulled, a fish leapt out, flying straight toward her face.
She quickly dodged. The fish landed on the ground, then immediately bounced up again, mouth wide open, charging at her.
“Good grief!” Hua Yun couldn’t help but react, kicking out as she turned aside.
Luckily, the galaxy practiced body refinement techniques, and martial arts were widespread among the population.
Otherwise, she’d be utterly powerless.
Beep—Danger detected!
An electronic voice sounded as a laser beam shot directly at the fish.
The fish dropped to the ground not far away, its body trembling and smoking.
“Wait!” Seeing another laser beam charging, Hua Yun hurriedly stopped it.
It turned out the protective robot assigned by the Agricultural Academy had detected the danger and launched an attack.
However… the attack was excessively powerful. A fist-sized hole appeared in the fish’s belly, and the air was filled with the aroma of meat.
---
The fish was quite large, about half a meter long, but it couldn’t withstand all these holes. How much of it was left to eat?
Thinking of this, Hua Yun picked up a stick and struck the fish’s head twice.
Soon, the fish’s eyes rolled back, and it stopped moving.
She cautiously approached and kicked it twice to confirm it was dead, then began to examine it carefully.
Though called a fish, Hua Yun felt it only resembled one in shape and was far different from the fish of her previous life.
She took a photo and uploaded it to the Star Network.
Soon enough, relevant information appeared.
It read: “Carp Dolphin Beast: inhabits typical freshwater, abundant in number, reproduces rapidly. Omnivorous aquatic beast, can reach up to five meters in length. Classified as a small aquatic beast with average attack power, posing minimal threat. Not recommended for consumption. Used as raw material for certain nutritional agents.”
Flipping through more data, Hua Yun found that this creature was often the practice opponent for many combat students at the academy.
Indeed, one must never be careless in unfamiliar environments.
With this in mind, Hua Yun glanced again at the protective robot.
It truly was technology!
The characteristics of this world were crystal clear—remarkably advanced technology, yet the aspects related to daily life were somewhat neglected.
Still, it wasn’t recommended for direct consumption?
Hua Yun was indifferent. During this period, she had studied why natural food was scarce in the galaxy. While part of the reason was the limited availability of ingredients, a more significant cause was the cultural gap.
They seemed to know that natural food was edible but did not understand how to process or cook it to make it delicious.
The culinary course she took had very simple methods—mostly boiling. In the original host’s memories, there were no other cooking techniques, and the seasonings were minimal.
Vegetables appeared most frequently; only a small portion was meat, reportedly specially farmed to ensure safety before becoming food.
Nutritional agents were harmless extracts from raw materials, rich in nutrients, fully satisfying the needs of the interstellar populace.
If something was inedible, it must be because it wasn’t cooked properly! Thinking of this, Hua Yun couldn’t help but smile lightly—that was a well-known truth in her old world.
