Volume One, Chapter 35: Our Daughter Has Switched Targets (Let’s See If the Male Lead Panics)
She hurried back in a panic, no longer caring whether Yunxiang might see her.
"Wait, you... young lady, please stay!"
Just as she was jogging away, she suddenly heard a man's voice from not far off. Yunxi looked up and was startled to see Ji Ming. She usually thought of him as nothing more than an eccentric devil, forgetting that he was, in fact, a prince and a god of war—a man who had become an invincible legend at a tender age. His intellect was surely beyond the reach of ordinary people.
Sade’s body, standing over two meters tall, was certainly imposing, yet the skull resting upon his shoulders was barely larger than a fist. From a distance, one might easily mistake him for a headless skeleton. This comical appearance was truly hard not to laugh at; at the very least, Yuna found it impossible to muster any fighting spirit.
Lin Feng was certain that if any of them were to collapse and perish, these burly guards would discard the body without a hint of mercy.
But seeing that object in his own manor, treated as if it were a venerated deity, he guessed it must be connected to him. That was likely the goal of the criminals, but why would the Emperor of Huaxia bring them all together?
Jiang Lin furrowed his brow. He hadn't expected such an intense reaction; he had only meant to tease her, so how had he managed to step on a landmine? A sense of inexplicable irritation rose within him. He picked up the apron she had thrown at him and walked out of the bedroom, his gaze lingering for a moment on the breakfast spread across the dining table.
It was not until Qingdai appeared that Qin Zhe discovered Lin Lu’s secret: Lin Lu had reached the threshold of her transition. She was about to molt, and this final shedding of her skin would complete her transformation into a mountain deity.
Seeing this, Qi Zhen’er and Qinqin quieted down, exchanged smiles, and stopped their idle chatter. One by one, they dispersed, leaving Qingdai alone to enjoy the peace and quiet.
Yet, even this lifeless skeleton radiated a faint, white divine glow. Despite having been dead for untold ages, a surge of powerful energy still circled its frame, as if guarding its immortality.
Choosing to meet here probably revealed something about the background of this client.
It was high noon. If it weren't for the fact that she expected no customers at this hour and Liu Hao was desperate to close the deal, no one would be out in this heat; the ground was truly hot enough to fry an egg.
Su Tie remembered that this spot had been bitten by a black-striped snake. Normally, the wound should have shown two parallel fang marks. It would have stung at first, but after so much time, it should have been fine by now.
Upon entering the courtyard, one could see the dim, flickering candlelight from within the house. Shadows paced behind the windows, and faint, intermittent whispers drifted along the breeze.
Han Tongxin couldn't help but feel as though she were wearing an invisible suit of armor; her confidence surged, and her courage grew.
Only Tang Jing, who had asked the question, was deeply resentful. She was in her thirties, the oldest in the dormitory, and everyone usually greeted her with the respectful title of "Sister Tang." In her eyes, Fang Yuanyuan was nothing more than a toad.
Feng Ye sighed inwardly. War was always so cruel and merciless; this child, not yet a month old, had been slaughtered. How pitiful.
The Dark Spirit Universe, just as Douzi had imagined, was a flat, bread-slice-shaped existence. It went without saying that this universe, like the Holy Light Continent, consisted entirely of a single continent, devoid of sun, moon, or stars.
In the past, she would only do as she was told. Even if she had thoughts of her own, she would never probe for the truth, simply because she had never cared for the turbulence of the outside world. But now, it seemed, her heart was filled with a thousand doubts, and she yearned to understand everything.
