Chapter Ninety-Three: Independently Developed Martial Instruments
A ghost?
His looked at the empty dining room. Junshaxi was nowhere to be seen. If this had happened before, he would simply have thought she was hiding again, but now he understood: she had vanished entirely.
Good grief, she had performed a disappearing act right in front of him. But thinking it over, His realized that although he had seen Junshaxi several times, he had never actually touched her, and she had almost always appeared in places where the sun could not reach.
He decided that later he would ask Junshaling whether there had ever been a policewoman named Junshaxi in Evergreen City, someone who had once lived there. His suspected that Junshaxi had died in Evergreen City.
With a complicated feeling, he then took a small disc from his pocket. It was extremely tiny, about the size of a move disc, except that this one was blank.
An extremely rare item: a self-made move device. After use, it can fix a move so that a Pokemon can learn it, provided it makes sense and fits naturally. There is a chance of obtaining one only when hosting a very rare guest.
Seeing this absurdly long explanation, His was stunned. He had never expected that luck would explode for him one day. By the sound of it, wasn’t this basically a custom move?
Only, what exactly did “provided it makes sense and fits naturally” mean? He was a little puzzled.
The first thing that came to His’s mind after obtaining the device was the Spirit Bomb from the martial-arts show he had watched as a child, where Son Goku asked his friends behind bars, his friends in the trees, and his friends on Earth to raise their hands and grant him strength. It had indeed been incredibly cool, and its power was tremendous as well.
Spirit Bomb failed to register. It does not conform to the basic rules of this world.
His’s mouth twitched. If he really could register Spirit Bomb, then he felt he could probably take Farfetch’d with him to kick Lance’s backside and make him shift the Champion’s throne aside. If he refused, he would simply fly up and fire a Spirit Bomb.
“So it has to conform to the basic rules of the world?” His stroked his chin. “In that case...”
Frozen World can be registered. Register?
His quickly shook his head. Kyurem’s Frozen World was certainly impressive, but he had no intention of teaching that to his Pokemon. As for legendary Pokemon, if he hosted enough of them in the future, there might still be a chance to get a move disc.
Besides, the invention itself had said this was an extremely rare item. He felt it would be a waste to squander it.
“Then what move should I make?” His fell into thought, chin in hand. Then he remembered the unrivaled blade he had obtained before...
Sheathing Draw Slash can be registered. Register?
“Fate has spoken!” His slapped his palm and chose to agree. Immediately afterward, he felt the atmosphere around him change. It was as if an unrivaled force was gazing down upon him. The sensation vanished in the next instant.
And the move disc in his hand had already changed.
Sheathing Draw Slash, a Fighting-type move. When used, the user enters a sheathed state. If a counter is made just as an enemy attack is about to land, damage can be avoided while striking the opponent in return, and the user's physical attack rises by one stage. Farfetch’d only.
“I... it actually worked!” His stared at the move in equal parts astonishment and amusement. It was even a Fighting-type move, which was seriously awesome, and it looked extremely powerful too.
And it was exclusive to Farfetch’d. Thinking of that, His handed the move disc to Farfetch’d, and in the next moment Farfetch’d mastered the bizarre new move.
“There’s still some time... Charmander, Farfetch’d, battle each other once. Let’s try the new move.” His glanced at his phone. There were still a little over ten minutes until the policewomen returned to the dormitory area.
He wanted to see how well Farfetch’d had learned the move first.
Though Charmander and Farfetch’d were a little confused, they still followed His outside to the open space in front of the dining hall.
“Farfetch’d, use Sheathing Draw.” His watched Farfetch’d and gave the command. Farfetch’d immediately took the leek from its hands and made a gesture as if resting it at its waist.
“Charmander, use Ember on Farfetch’d. Farfetch’d, the moment Ember is about to hit you, use the next motion.” His gave the order swiftly. Charmander then spat a mouthful of flame, but Farfetch’d had already sheathed itself in advance. Fortunately, Farfetch’d had Keen Eye and was not harmed.
His frowned. It really was a draw-based draw slash, then. The timing window was short, and it required precise mastery of when to use it.
He then had Farfetch’d and Charmander spar again, and on the fourth attempt, they finally succeeded. Farfetch’d darted forward with a single draw slash, sweeping up a gust of leek shadows, and its aura immediately became even more intense.
His stroked his chin. The move’s use was rather unusual. Like Protect, when used properly it could block move damage and even counterattack, making it a kind of upgraded version of Protect, though it demanded excellent timing.
“Practice slowly,” His said as he led Farfetch’d back to the kitchen. His ambition was not to become a trainer. Teaching Farfetch’d Sheathing Draw had only been a sudden inspiration. Perhaps in the future he might even obtain more custom moves, and perhaps he could create an aerial rising slash.
Yes, the dream of playing Monster Hunting in the Pokemon world could be considered fulfilled. It was a pity he could not use it on himself, and His found that rather regrettable.
After His busied himself in the kitchen for a while, the policewomen came in as well. They looked a little tired today. After all, having to watch one’s words and actions all day was still quite annoying.
A little awkwardly, His brought out the dishes. He did not know how he should explain it. When he had seen Junshaxi earlier, he had taken it for granted that she was an inspector, but in the end she had been a ghost.
“Um, Sister Ling, are you familiar with the list of policewomen who have served in Evergreen City over the years?” His asked softly while serving Junshaling her rice.
“Hmm? A little, I guess. I’ve read the records of Evergreen City,” Junshaling said, looking at His in confusion. She did not understand why he was asking such a thing.
“Then does it include... the names of any policewomen who died in the line of duty?” His asked again, feeling somewhat nervous.
“No. Since Evergreen City was founded, there hasn’t been a single such case.” Junshaling shook her head. His let out a breath of relief. So she was not from Evergreen City after all.
Then why had Junshaxi come to Evergreen City? His could not quite figure it out. He thought it might be because ghosts were free to wander wherever they wished.
