Eavesdropping channel.
“Cheers!”
“To you!”
Listening to the scene unfold, the Bear couldn't hold back. “Could it be that bastard is really taking advantage of this?”
“Shut up!” the Tiger King roared. “The Fox must have her own reasons.” Yet, anyone with ears could hear his subordinate’s heavy breathing over the comms.
“Why are you taking off your clothes? I just wanted to buy you a drink!”
Silence fell instantly over the channel.
“Adé, you’re not interested in me at all?”
“Sorry, I like men.”
“Yeah!!” Many cheered simultaneously over the comms.
“Everyone shut up!” the Tiger King barked again.
At that moment, the sound of a smashed glass came through the monitor.
“Gu Hai, you make me sick!” the Fox snapped angrily, stomping away in heels and slamming the door. But barely around the corridor corner, she was yanked into the storage room.
“Monkey!?”
“Shh.”
While most were intently eavesdropping on Gu Hai Youde, the two paparazzi left in the hotel lobby turned out to be the weakest link in the Security Bureau’s surveillance.
“Hey, Chai, what do you think that old man was arguing with the waitress about?”
“Cat, stop staring at that old man, or you’ll lose your eyeballs.”
“What? You know that old man?”
“Of course. More than half of the officials at the department level or above on Egret Island know him!”
“Really? Could he be Secretary Zhou from the city?”
“No, but his father was Secretary Zhou’s predecessor. You’ve heard of Wanyang Group, right? He’s Wan Hailiu, the head of Wanyang. Rumor has it he’s seriously ill and counting his remaining days.”
“Is that true?”
“Who knows? I just overheard it once.”
At that moment, Wan Hailiu, having failed to settle the dispute with the waitress, swept his sleeve and left. Unfortunately, Chai and Cat didn’t follow the usual procedure to question the waitress, leading the Security Bureau to develop some misunderstandings about Yang Tang.
Meanwhile, on the eavesdropping channel came Gu Hai Youde’s call to the hotel front desk. “Front desk, don’t call me at noon for lunch. I plan to get a solid four or five hours of sleep to prepare for an evening dive.”
“Understood, sir. The staff won’t disturb you before five in the afternoon.”
“Thanks!”
“You’re welcome.”
Over the comms:
“Tiger King, Tiger King, what should we do now?”
“Observation team, can you see the boss?”
“Yes, he’s moving around inside. Now he’s lying down, only the body is visible, covered with a blanket.”
“Alright, all teams maintain current status and observe quietly.”
At Takasaki International Airport, departure lounge.
After dinner and changing his electronic ticket, Yang Tang sat quietly in a corner of the lounge, neither watching the news nor chatting with other travelers.
At the far end of the same row sat two girls trying to amuse themselves with him.
“Mengting, look at that dope at the end of the row. He’s been sitting there motionless for at least twenty minutes. What a real Tripitaka! Heeheehee.”
“What’s so funny, Xiaoxiao? If you can get Tripitaka to sit next to me, I’ll admit defeat. Laugh all you want!”
“Really?” Xiaoxiao was doubtful.
“When have I ever lied, Mengting?”
Hearing this, Xiaoxiao believed her and circled around from behind the entire row to Yang Tang’s side, tapping his shoulder. “Hey, Tripitaka.”
Yang Tang blinked. “Lady, what did you just call me?”
“Tripitaka. You’ve been sitting here like a statue for half an hour. If you’re not Tripitaka, then who is?”
Yang Tang was speechless.
It must be said that although the classic Journey to the West doesn’t exist in this world, many of its anecdotes—like the three battles with the White Bone Demon or the accidental fall into the Spider Cave—are well known. So using metaphors like Tripitaka, Second Brother Pig, and Third Brother Sandy isn’t odd.
But this time, Yang Tang being compared to Tripitaka simply because he sat still so long was indeed peculiar, hence his silence.
After calming down, Yang Tang’s eagle eyes scanned the girls before him and then glanced at Mengting at the other end of the row with a smirk. “Little beauties, I wouldn’t mind moving over to sit with you, but you and your friend have to answer me one question first.”
“What question?”
“Simple. What use do pure white and light blue have for you two?” Yang Tang asked slyly. “If your answer pleases me, moving over wouldn’t be a problem.”
“Pure white and light blue? What kind of question is that?” Xiaoxiao protested.
Yang Tang feigned profundity. “You alone can’t figure it out. Go back and discuss it with your friend!”
“Hmph, we’ll discuss!” Xiaoxiao said, rushing back to Mengting.
“So, did I guess right? He won’t come over!” Mengting said proudly. “No doubt about it—he’s not tempted by beauty. This guy is my type!”
“Don’t kid yourself. He’s not immune to beauty; he just wants us to answer a question before he’ll come!”
“Ah?!” Mengting was thoroughly deflated. “Is he crazy? What’s the question?”
“It’s simple but weird.”
“Enough with the suspense, spill it!” Mengting urged impatiently.
“Tripitaka asks: What use are pure white and light blue to us?”
“What? Pure white and light blue? Does he mean colors?”
“Probably colors. He smiled oddly when he said those words. I tried to imitate his expression but failed miserably,” Xiaoxiao said, struggling to mimic Yang Tang’s look.
Mengting thought hard and instinctively shook her head. “Pure white and light blue can refer to anything—clothes, for example. But I’m not wearing pure white spandex today. Wait, Xiaoxiao, are you wearing any pure white clothes?”
Xiaoxiao froze for a moment, then whispered into Mengting’s ear, “My panties are pure white.”
Mengting’s heart skipped a beat, leaving her stunned.
“Tyty, what’s wrong? Don’t scare me!” Xiaoxiao asked.
Mengting’s dull eyes suddenly shifted, glaring at Xiaoxiao, and she muttered, “Xiao, come closer.”
Xiaoxiao obeyed.
Mengting whispered, “Mine are light blue too!”
Now it was Xiaoxiao’s turn to feel a thousand wild horses stampede through her heart. “That bastard!” she hissed through gritted teeth. Then she abruptly stood up, intending to confront Yang Tang.
But just then, Mengting spotted a familiar figure approaching Yang Tang, accompanied by several black-suited bodyguards. She quickly grabbed Xiaoxiao’s arm. “Wait!”
Xiaoxiao followed Mengting’s gaze. “Huh? Tyty, isn’t that your dad?”
“I don’t have a father like him!” Mengting said sharply.
Meanwhile, Yang Tang, who had been resting with eyes closed, suddenly opened them and looked toward Wan Hailiu approaching him.
Three steps away, Wan Hailiu bowed deeply despite the curious stares of other passengers. “Master Yang, I came to your hotel this morning but you had already left without notice!”
Yang Tang, uninterested in explanations, said simply, “I have urgent business and need to fly to Tokyo.”
Wan Hailiu seized the opportunity. “Coincidentally, I also have matters in Tokyo. Shall we travel together, Master Yang?”
Yang Tang gave no clear answer.
Wan Hailiu was overjoyed and immediately ordered his assistant to arrange tickets.
“Damn it, what’s the relationship between that Tripitaka and my dad?” Mengting gritted her teeth, speculating furiously yet afraid to confront.
“Maybe your dad’s raising an older brother for you on the side?” Xiaoxiao guessed boldly.
“Don’t be ridiculous. If Tripitaka were my bastard brother or half-brother, my dad wouldn’t be so courteous to him, let alone sit sideways with only half his butt on the seat!”
“Yeah, that Tripitaka’s so mean, dragging our panties into this.”
Hearing Xiaoxiao’s complaint, Wan Mengting suddenly froze, faintly realizing why her father was so nervous around Yang Tang.
On the direct flight to Tokyo, Wan Hailiu accompanied Yang Tang in first class, unaware his daughter was also on the plane.
Yang Tang noticed the two girls who called him “Tripitaka” were also on board but didn’t approach them. Instead, Wan Hailiu fussed over him eagerly, and Yang Tang suspected his motives were no more than a ten out of ten.
Sure enough, once the flight was smooth, Wan Hailiu handed Yang Tang a note: “Master Yang, I am only forty-six today. If you have any way to extend my life, I would be deeply grateful!”
After reading, Yang Tang returned the note and asked in a half-baked Kansai dialect, “Wan-san, how did you settle on me?”
Wan Hailiu was instantly thrilled. “Master Yang, you really have a way?”
Before Yang Tang could reply, a mustachioed man in front abruptly leaned halfway out of his seat, turning to scold Wan and Yang: “Kemuunusai! It’s too noisy!!”
Wan Hailiu clearly understood Japanese and scowled, replying in equally broken Tokyo accent, “If you think it’s noisy, then you should leave!”
At the same time, Wan Hailiu’s two bodyguards in the next row stood up, glaring at the mustachioed man.
The man quickly withdrew like a turtle retreating into its shell, shouting poorly in English, “Miss, I’m thirsty. Bring me a Coke!”
“Kemu,” a slang term used when someone creates a fuss, usually implying “you” in a casual tone.
