095 A Hub for White Items?
As usual, three pleas: votes, recommendations, favorites, favorites, favorites, favorites, favorites, favorites, favorites!
“You don’t need to do anything special. Just eat when you should, drink when you should, sleep when you should. It’s no different from how you usually handle a fever and come back from the hospital after an IV drip.” Yang Tang spoke with easy confidence, not the least bit concerned about what illness Yun Luyue’s daughter actually had. He carried himself with the same swagger once associated with humanity and penicillin in hand, sweeping all before it. Now he had Celestial Sound Purification in hand, and he looked down on the world.
“What if Yao Yao falls ill again?”
“Then come find me. Call this global number, and that’ll do it.” As he spoke, Yang Tang made a mystic show of pulling over a note and leaving a string of digits on it.
“Then, Mr. Yang, as for the consultation fee...” Yun Luyue finally asked the question Yang Tang cared about most, but as she did, a flash of ruthless coldness also crossed the eyes of the pretty widow.
Yang Tang pretended not to notice and chuckled. “Miss Yun, the fee I want is outside.”
“Outside?” Yun Luyue, who had expected Yang Tang to drive up the price and make a lion’s demand, was utterly stunned. Outside this villa, aside from the few orchids in the little garden worth a bit of money apiece, there was only the pair of BMWs that might fetch something. Yet Yang Tang was saying the consultation fee was outside. How could she not be surprised?
“Please come with me.”
Yang Tang led the way out of the villa and pointed to the BMW in front. “Miss Yun, please help me open the door of the BMW with the license plate ending in nine.”
Though Yun Luyue could not make out what Yang Tang intended, she still tilted her head toward the man in black beside her. The man hesitated briefly, then took out the car key and unlocked the door remotely.
Yang Tang walked over, pulled open the driver’s door, and happily yanked off the qilin pendant inside. A sudden clarity rose in his mind: item attribute transfer acquired, quantity one!
Unfortunately, for the sake of completing the matter perfectly, Yang Tang did not immediately stash the pendant into the remaining storage slot in the nameless ring. Instead, he held the pendant in his hand and backed out of the car, intending to show Yun Luyue the “fee” he desired before naturally pocketing it.
At that very moment, a black carbon-fiber Ducati roared up and stopped right behind Yang Tang with a deafening growl, while the rider’s leg lashed wildly toward the BMW door.
“Aah—Ahao, what are you doing—” Yun Luyue, standing at the villa entrance, screamed when she saw it, and then her vision blurred. When she focused again, she was shocked to see Yang Tang standing where the Ducati had just stopped, while both rider and bike had already been sent flying five or six meters away.
Even more alarming to everyone present was this: the rider, still groggy, struggled to his feet and instinctively reached for the Ducati, only to lift up merely the front wheel and handlebars.
Dodge skill advanced to level three.
Dodge 3: a passive skill with a seventy-percent chance to evade a melee attack by standing still. Instant activation.
Yang Tang had been honing his abilities on Jinyun Mountain for more than ten days, yet Dodge had stubbornly refused to reach level three. This had remained a thorn in his side. Now, with the sudden prompt of insight, his foul mood from the ambush improved slightly. He cast the rider a cold glance, then strolled over to the somewhat dazed Yun Luyue and opened his palm to reveal the qilin pendant.
“Miss Yun, this is the consultation fee I want.”
“Just that pendant? Oh, no problem, take it!”
Only now had Yun Luyue realized that Yang Tang possessed formidable martial skill, and she truly had no mind to haggle over a pendant. Not to mention that, at least in her eyes, the pendant was worth nowhere near as much as the BMW. Even if it had been worth a fortune, now that Yang Tang had set his sights on it and stood only an arm’s length away, would she really dare refuse? Besides, her daughter Yao Yao had already regained her senses. That alone proved Yang Tang possessed uncanny arts. For a man like that, the reward could not possibly be too small.
“Since Miss Yun is being so generous, I’ll gladly accept this pendant!” Yang Tang cupped his hands to Yun Luyue, then slipped the pendant into his pocket and into the nameless ring.
By then, the rider had fully recovered. He removed his helmet and stormed up to Yang Tang, demanding, “I don’t care what relationship you have with my sister. You’ve damaged my bike. How do you plan to settle this?”
Yang Tang sneered. “You still have the nerve to ask me how to settle it? If this weren’t right in front of Miss Yun’s villa, just for that sneak attack you launched on me just now, do you think you’d still be standing here talking to me?”
The rider glanced at the carbon-fiber motorcycle on the ground, snapped cleanly in two, and his whole body jolted. He blurted out his profession before he could stop himself. “Damn it, I’m a cop!”
Yang Tang continued to sneer. “So what if you’re a cop? Does being a cop make you amazing? Does it mean you can attack people whenever you feel like it?”
The rider was clearly a sharp-tongued one as well. “You climbed into my sister’s car and were acting all sneaky. How is that a random attack?”
But Yang Tang was even more ruthless. “Then when you rode up on that motorcycle, you only noticed my backside and didn’t notice your sister’s face at the villa door?”
Yun Luyue: “...”
The rider: “I’m not into that kind of stuff.”
Just then, little Yao Yao, now dressed up fresh and bright, darted out from the villa and ran all the way to Yang Tang’s side. “Uncle Yang, hug me!”
Yang Tang made a pained expression and picked Yao Yao up. Yao Yao immediately twisted her tiny body sideways and reached out a small hand to scratch the rider’s face. “Bad uncle, bad uncle! Fighting with Uncle Yang—you’re a bad uncle!”
The rider: “...”
“Haha, Yao Yao said that beautifully!” Yang Tang laughed heartily. “Come here, Uncle will give you this!” As he spoke, he pulled a dark gold coin from his back pocket and pressed it into Yao Yao’s small hand. “This thing can’t be eaten, licked, or swallowed. You can only keep it close to your body. That way, when Yao Yao goes to sleep at night, you’ll be peaceful and safe.”
“Really?”
“Of course. Uncle would never lie to Yao Yao.”
The soothing and soul-calming effect of the dark gold coin had only recently been discovered by Yang Tang. He still did not know what to do with the more than five thousand coins in his possession. Melt them down and cast them into gold bricks? Then their soul-soothing power would surely vanish, which would be a terrible waste. Keep them and give them away? He did not know how many years it would take to finish handing them out, and it would just waste his already severely limited storage slots.
“All right, Yao Yao, go find Mommy now!” Taking advantage of the little girl’s distraction with the coin, Yang Tang handed her back into Yun Luyue’s arms. “I should head back too. Oh, right, where’s the security guard who came with me earlier?”
Yun Luyue looked around but saw no sign of the guard, so she had no choice but to turn toward the man in black in the corner.
“That guard rode off on an electric scooter a few minutes ago.”
Yang Tang could not help the twitch at the corner of his mouth. “Miss Yun, your security guards really do have a sharp eye for money!”
“What do you mean?” Yun Luyue asked, frowning.
Yang Tang waved it off. “Nothing.” As he spoke, he took out his phone and called the bank’s customer service. “Hello, is this Hua Xia Bank? I want to report my card lost.”
At the same time, near Liuhai Park, at an ATM machine:
“You have entered the wrong PIN multiple times. Your account has been locked. Please try again later!”
Bang! The guide security guard, who had received a pack of Yuxi cigarettes from Yang Tang, slammed his fist against the machine. Only then did he realize what had happened. “Damn it, that punk played me. I have no idea what kind of trouble I’ll be in when I get back!”
After reporting his bank card lost, Yang Tang once again said goodbye to Yun Luyue. Just before leaving, he suddenly remembered something and asked at once, “By the way, Miss Yun—”
“You should call me Sister Yun, or Sister Yue is fine too.”
“All right, Sister Yun. I just wanted to ask, where did you buy that pendant?”
Yun Luyue paused before she understood. “You mean the qilin pendant you just took?”
“Yes, that’s the one.”
“I stumbled across it at Old Street by chance. I was there陪 Yao Yao to have some fun—”
Yang Tang cut in. “Sister Yun, where exactly is this Old Street?”
“Even if I told you, you might not find it. Oh, I have the location saved on my phone. Want me to send it to you?”
“Great!”
Aunt Deng carried Yao Yao back into the house.
“Sis, look at the birthday present you gave me!” The rider still refused to give up, pointing bitterly at the pile of scrap metal on the ground.
Yun Luyue shot him a glare. “Ahao, it’s only fifty thousand Hua dollars. At a time like this, and you’re still thinking about the bike!”
“Sis...” the rider wailed once more, then put on a solemn face. “Sis, what do you need me to do?”
“Nothing else. Check up on that Yang Tang for me. Find out when he arrived in Banyan City and where he came from.”
“No problem. Give me half an hour, and I’ll even find out where he’s pissing right now!” the rider boasted, thumping his chest.
At that, Yun Luyue looked at her half-brother with open disgust and said displeasedly, “Ahao, Yang Tang was crude, using his backside to compare with your sister’s face. Don’t tell me you learned that so quickly too!”
“How was I copying him...”
By the time he returned to West Lake Hotel, it was nearly nine o’clock. Yang Tang ate breakfast at the restaurant just before it closed for the morning, then casually hailed a taxi and headed straight for Old Street.
Once there, after asking around a little, Yang Tang quickly found the half-street lined with shops selling secondhand goods, used items, and small antiques.
Sweeping his Eagle Eye over the area in rough fashion, Yang Tang was astonished to discover that eight out of ten stalls had at least one white-quality item.
“What the hell is going on? Could this be the legendary treasure distribution center?”
But after he crouched down and carefully picked through the goods, he discovered that none of those white items triggered any insight prompt once they were in his hands.
At first, Yang Tang thought it was because the items did not truly belong to him, so the insight did not activate. Later, he even bought a couple of white items together with other things, but still no insight appeared.
“What in the world is going on here?”
I’m on a burst of momentum this week—please favorite, favorite, favorite!
