Half an hour later, Fan Bing, her cheeks flushed, opened the car door and beckoned to her subordinates.

“Get in! Let’s go home…”

The driver, the female secretary, and the bodyguards all swiftly got into the car and set off.

Zeng Xiaofan sat in the second row; the bodyguard took the passenger seat, leaving the female secretary to squeeze into the second row as well.

With no other choice, the female secretary, dressed in a tight skirt, had to wedge Zeng Xiaofan in the middle.

However, just as she opened the door to get in, a bee—perhaps drawn by the scent of perfume—buzzed its way inside.

Zeng Xiaofan hurriedly waved his hand to shoo it away. The bee fled, but in the motion, he caught a whiff of a delightful fragrance.

“Hm?” Puzzled, Zeng Xiaofan brought his palms closer to his nose, following the scent.

Only then did he realize the enticing aroma was coming from his own hands.

“How odd…” he muttered under his breath. Fan Bing noticed and asked, “What’s wrong?”

He shook his head slightly. “Nothing… I just don’t know why my hands suddenly smell so good.”

“I don’t even use perfume…”

Still puzzled, Zeng Xiaofan took a deep breath of his palms, his face radiating bliss.

“Mmm!”

“Does it really smell that good?”

Seeing this, Fan Bing’s cheeks turned crimson. She shyly gave him a playful slap and scolded, “You’re incorrigible!”

“Huh?” Zeng Xiaofan stared at her, momentarily stunned by her teasing yet coquettish manner. Quickly, realization dawned—he finally understood the source of the fragrance on his hands, and his face flushed bright red with embarrassment.

“Ahem… Driver… Let’s go… Ahem…”

Zeng Xiaofan awkwardly covered his face, only to be met with the same alluring scent. Now, he sat bolt upright, unsure what to do with his hands.

Fan Bing, watching his mortified expression, couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

An hour later, the Mercedes G-Class slowly entered the Peach Blossom Spring Villa complex, stopping before Villa No. 8.

The entire estate was elegantly designed, tranquil and lush, with vast groves of peach blossoms.

Yet, as they stepped out, they sensed a faint, chilling aura emanating from the whole villa.

With a slight furrow of his sword-like brows, Zeng Xiaofan spoke in a low voice, “The sun hasn’t even set, and the yin energy is already so strong…”

“There’s definitely something here…”

Turning to Fan Bing, he asked seriously, “Bingbing, do you remember where you might have picked up this… unclean thing?”

Fan Bing shook her head. “How could I know? If you hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t even realize something had attached itself to me…”

“True… Then when did you first start feeling unwell?”

“That, I remember clearly. I work out and do yoga regularly, so my health has always been good. The moment I felt off, it stuck in my mind…”

Fan Bing frowned in thought, then admitted with some embarrassment, “I think…the first time I felt unwell was during that day’s hike…”

“Oh? Tell me more.” Zeng Xiaofan listened intently.

Growing even more embarrassed, Fan Bing confessed, “Well… before I got bitten by the snake… I had to relieve myself once…”

“Huh?”

“It’s just… I really needed to go, but there weren’t any houses or toilets in sight…”

“So, I found a corner by a bridge and… went there…”

She gave an awkward laugh. “Right after, I started feeling a bit dizzy, with a chill down my back…”

“And down there too—it felt cool. I thought I’d just caught a chill from sweating and the breeze…”

“I didn’t pay it much mind and kept going. Then, later on the hillside, I went again…”

“That’s when you know—I was bitten by the snake…”

Remembering how Zeng Xiaofan had helped suck out the venom, Fan Bing felt so mortified she couldn’t lift her head.

Zeng Xiaofan nodded. “It seems you may have attracted something unclean when you went by the bridge…”

“Maybe even the snake bite was its doing…”

“Did you notice anything strange by the bridge?”

Fan Bing frowned prettily. “Not really… Wait! There was a stone tablet inscribed with ‘Amitabha’ there!”

“There were also a few bloodstained yellow talismans on it! Does that mean anything?”

Zeng Xiaofan nodded. “That explains it!”

“You city folk might not know, but in the countryside, if you see an ‘Amitabha’ stone tablet by the roadside, it usually means someone died there unnaturally.”

“Especially at crossroads or by rivers—someone might have died in an accident or drowned…”

“Us villagers, when we see such a monument, we avoid it at all costs!”

“And if we can’t, we approach respectfully, offer a bow, or leave a cigarette as tribute…”

“But you, you just relieved yourself right there… You’re really fearless…”

Fan Bing, deeply embarrassed, bit her lip. “So… what should I do now?”

“Is there any way to fix this?”

Zeng Xiaofan shook his head, then added, “But it’s not your fault—you city people wouldn’t know these things…”

“From now on, remember: ‘Three feet above, the gods are watching.’ If you must relieve yourself outdoors, step over the spot and offer a sincere apology—a quick bow and some words of respect. Usually, nothing will happen then.”

Fan Bing nodded solemnly. “I understand… I won’t do it again…”

However, the female secretary, standing to the side, rolled her eyes and scoffed.

“Oh, come on, Mr. Zeng—I’ve held my tongue long enough!”

“What is all this nonsense? It’s the twenty-first century! Are you still peddling these feudal superstitions?”

“Don’t think I don’t see through you. You’re just trying to fool our boss!”

“You want her to believe you, so you can profit from her fear!”

“I’ve seen plenty of your type—con artists hiding behind superstition, out for money and other things. Nothing but a fraud!”

Fan Bing’s brows knitted in a frown, her voice cold. “Siluo! Mind your manners!”

The secretary, Ke Siluo, stamped her long legs, swaying in indignation, and pleaded, “President Fan—”

“You’re not really falling for this guy’s ghost stories, are you?”

“He’s obviously a swindler! Who knows if he’s after your money or something else?”

“Please, don’t be fooled!”
