Chapter 6: Lingering Poison
The female secretary snapped back to her senses and muttered,
“Convulsions, vomiting blood, rapid breathing…”
“That means she’s about to die, doesn’t it?”
“It’s all your fault! You’re the one who caused this!”
“She said she couldn’t be treated like this, but you insisted, and now all the symptoms our Director Fan warned of have come true!”
“If anything happens to Director Fan, Bluewater Group won’t let you off!”
The secretary pointed at Zhou Tingting and berated her fiercely. Zhou Tingting shrank back at once.
She knew full well that Bluewater Group was a major conglomerate in Guangnan Province—its influence was far beyond what a rural doctor like her could withstand.
“I…I didn’t…”
“I… I don’t know…”
“I know nothing, it’s not my fault…”
Zhou Tingting waved her hands in panic, completely losing her composure.
The bystanders, afraid of being held responsible, retreated quickly,
Only Zeng Xiaofan stepped forward against the flow,
He took out a silver needle and pierced it directly into Fan Bing’s chest acupuncture point.
Zhou Tingting, desperate for an excuse, immediately shouted,
“Everyone saw it!”
“It was Zeng Xiaofan who stuck needles into the patient!”
“I didn’t treat the patient at all!”
“If anything happens, it’s all his responsibility, nothing to do with me!”
She shouted loudly, severing all ties to the situation, then shot Zeng Xiaofan a glare and sneered,
“Kid, you love being in the spotlight? Let’s see how you die this time!”
“The patient is about to stop breathing, and you still want to meddle—who else will take responsibility if not you…”
“Heh heh, just wait, you’ll have your turn to cry.” Zhou Tingting laughed gleefully.
Zeng Xiaofan ignored her mockery, pinching the needle with two fingers, fully focused,
His mind flashing with the inherited knowledge of medicine, his technique swift and precise as a flowing stream.
As he inserted a long silver needle into Fan Bing’s lower abdomen,
Fan Bing suddenly coughed violently, spat out a large clump of black blood, and woke up completely.
The ashen, suffocated face regained its rosy glow, and her beauty returned in all its delicate charm.
“Cough… cough… You saved me, thank you, young man…”
It turned out Fan Bing had not lost consciousness entirely—she was aware of everything that had happened, and upon awakening, wanted to kneel and thank Zeng Xiaofan.

Everyone present was stunned!
“This… this is incredible!”
“Xiaofan actually saved her!”
“It’s unbelievable!”
“When did Xiaofan become so skilled in medicine…”
“Right! He’s even better than any trained doctor!”
Zhou Tingting’s face alternated between pale and flushed, looking utterly miserable.
This was supposed to be her chance to gain favor with Bluewater Group,
Now she could only watch as Zeng Xiaofan claimed all the gratitude and the spotlight,
Making her look completely useless as a doctor.
From start to finish, Zeng Xiaofan had not spared her a glance, but Zhou Tingting felt as though he had slapped her face swollen.
“Miss Fan, you don’t need to thank me. I’ve only just revived you; the residual toxins in your body haven’t been fully eliminated.”
“We wasted too much time earlier, and with the haphazard treatment, some of the poison has already reached your heart and lungs. Simply using silver needles isn’t enough to expel it all.”
“We need to combine the needles with external force to completely remove the toxins.”
“Ah?” Fan Bing blinked her bright eyes, nervous,
“What does that mean?”
“Treat me as you see fit. I’ll cooperate fully!”
Zeng Xiaofan nodded, his voice steady,
“It means, after the needles, someone has to help suck out the remaining poison by mouth.”
“But first, we need to find the original wound…”
He paused, frowned slightly,
“If I’m not mistaken, you’ve been poisoned by a snake.”
“Think carefully—were you bitten by a snake on the road?”
Fan Bing frowned thoughtfully, but after a moment, shook her head,
“I don’t think so… I was very careful the whole way, and I didn’t see any snakes.”
“If I was bitten, it would definitely hurt, right? Besides, look, my hands and feet have no wounds.”
She extended her slender hands for Zeng Xiaofan to see,
Then slipped off her outdoor sneakers, revealing her soft, pale feet,
The skin was milky-white and flawless, with no sign of injury.
Zeng Xiaofan shook his head, insisting,
“If your hands and feet are fine, then the wound must be somewhere else…”
“Think again—there must be an injury.”

Fan Bing bit her lip, thinking hard, then suddenly trembled and her face flushed deep red,
“Uh… could it be…”
“Surely it can’t be that coincidental…”
She mumbled to herself, her cheeks so red they seemed about to bleed.
Zeng Xiaofan realized she might not want to say it in front of everyone, so he turned to Zhou Tingting,
“Please clear the crowd. The patient’s next treatment requires a quiet, private space, so I’ll need to use your village clinic office.”
Zhou Tingting, not daring to offend Fan Bing, obediently led her to the clinic.
The crowd was kept outside by the secretary and Zhou Tingting, leaving only Fan Bing and Zeng Xiaofan in the room.
Now Zeng Xiaofan softened his voice,
“It’s just the two of us now. You can speak freely.”
Fan Bing bit her lip, embarrassment flooding her face, but she knew it was no time for shyness. She lowered her head and whispered,
“Earlier…”
“Earlier on the road, I suddenly had… had to pee…”
“Ahem… so I ran to a thick patch of grass to relieve myself…”
She raised her head shyly to glance at Zeng Xiaofan, but he remained serious,
“And then?”
“And then… ahem…”
“When I squatted down, I felt something prick me…”
“I thought it was just a sharp blade of grass poking me…”
“It hurt for a moment, then felt itchy and numb… surely it wasn’t a snake bite?”
Zeng Xiaofan’s frown deepened,
“No, what you described matches the symptoms of a venomous snake bite.”
“A truly poisonous snake bite isn’t always painful—the venom quickly numbs the nerves around the wound…”
“So by your account, you were likely bitten while squatting in the grass.”
“Ah?” Fan Bing’s face turned green with shock,
“Is that true… Does it really have to be sucked out?”
Zeng Xiaofan grew uncomfortable as well,
“Ahem… Yes… It must be sucked out to eliminate the danger completely.”
“But to be certain it’s a snake bite, I’ll need to check the wound myself.”
“Ah!” Fan Bing squealed instinctively, too embarrassed to meet Zeng Xiaofan’s gaze.
