“I’ll grow whatever I please. What business is it of yours?”

“Hey! Down with unscrupulous merchants and their crooked dealings! Everyone has a duty to punish them!”

“Burn them!”

“Burn them!”

“If he dares resist, burn him along with the herbs!”

Baldspot Wen grew even more brazen as he shouted, and the villagers, egged on by him, began itching for a fight.

Zeng Xiaofan was furious now. He enunciated each word:

“Whoever touches even one of my herbs, I’ll cripple one of his legs!”

The instant he finished speaking, his intimidating presence shook the entire crowd.

The villagers finally regained a measure of calm, but Zhao Qinglong soon started shouting again.

“Oh? Kid, so you’re planning to play rough, are you?”

Zeng Xiaofan stood fearlessly before them.

“Since none of you will listen to reason, then I suppose I know a thing or two about throwing punches!”

“Good! Beat him to death!”

“Everyone, get him! Beat this black-hearted bastard to death!”

“Burn every last one of his crooked medicinal herbs!”

Zhao Qinglong and Baldspot Wen began shouting together. The villagers were stirred up once more, and it looked as though a brawl was about to break out.

Just then, a clear female voice rang out.

“All of you, stop!”

“If any of you dares lay a finger on Brother Fan, I’ll make you regret it!”

The lively, delicate voice left everyone stunned. They all turned toward it and saw a petite young woman striding over with her chin held high. She wore tight-fitting jeans that accentuated her long, straight legs, while her youthful figure was already beginning to mature.

“Hey! Where did this little brat come from?”

“Since when did you get a say here?”

“Who are you?” Baldspot Wen asked, leering over Chen Lini’s figure.

His gaze lingered especially long on her lower body, and his expression grew increasingly lecherous.

Chen Lini let out a cold snort and raised her chin proudly.

“My name is Chen Lini. You may not know me.”

“But you should have heard of my father!”

“Oh? Little girl, that’s quite a boast. Who is your father?”

“Tell me, so I can meet my future father-in-law. Heh heh heh…” Baldspot Wen laughed more obscenely than ever, his eyes roaming over her body.

Chen Lini snorted.

“My father is Chen Jianghe. If you have the nerve, go ahead and call him your father-in-law!”

“If you dare say it, I dare accept you as my son-in-law!”

The moment she said this, an uproar swept through the crowd. Baldspot Wen grinned broadly and was about to tease her further when the village chief, Jin Youcai, who had remained silent until then, suddenly grabbed him and pulled him back.

“That’s enough! Chen Jianghe is our county chief…”

“What?”

“The… the county chief’s daughter?”

Baldspot Wen was instantly petrified. The lecherous grin on his face was replaced by fear, and he stammered awkwardly:

“Ahem… I’m sorry, Miss Chen…”

“I didn’t know the county chief was your father… I’m sorry, I’m sorry…”

Baldspot Wen apologized repeatedly. When Zhao Qinglong and the other villagers heard the news, they immediately lost their nerve.

Chen Lini stepped in front of Zeng Xiaofan, protecting him with a bold, defiant air.

“Listen carefully, every one of you!”

“If anyone dares lay a finger on Brother Fan today…”

“Or touch even one of Brother Fan’s medicinal herbs…”

“I’ll make sure my father deals with you!”

“So what if Brother Fan’s herbs are huge?”

When Chen Lini finished, everyone was left speechless.

The villagers who had been roused into attacking Zeng Xiaofan now shrank back one after another.

“That girl looks only eighteen or nineteen. That Xiaofan fellow sure has incredible luck with women!”

“He actually got a girl that young into bed?”

The men were shocked and envious, but not one of them dared step forward to trouble Zeng Xiaofan again.

Village Chief Jin Youcai could stand it no longer. He stepped forward and said solemnly:

“Miss Chen, it’s not that I don’t respect the county chief. But surely this matter isn’t yours to interfere with?”

“That man has seriously damaged the ecological environment, committed serious fraud, and poses a grave threat to public safety. We’re doing this for the health of the people!”

The moment Jin Youcai finished speaking, Zhao Qinglong and Baldspot Wen became arrogant once again.

As he spoke, Baldspot Wen raised his phone and aimed the camera at Chen Lini, taking the opportunity to secretly snap photographs of her.

Just then, another government vehicle came driving over. It screeched to a halt, and Town Chief Lin Chunhua personally emerged with several forestry officials.

Jin Youcai, Zhao Qinglong, and Baldspot Wen immediately hurried over to greet them warmly.

“Town Chief, what brings you here personally?”

“This sort of matter could easily have been handled by the Forestry Bureau staff!”

Jin Youcai pointed dramatically toward Zeng Xiaofan’s grove, then moved forward as if to help Lin Chunhua.

The moment Lin Chunhua saw the enormous grove of five-fingered fig trees, even he was briefly stunned. But his expression soon darkened. He raised his hand and slapped Jin Youcai across the face.

“Jin Youcai! Causing trouble again, are you?”
