Chapter 30: Who the Hell Do You Think You Are?
Page 1/3
Zhuo Nan had no patience now to waste time bickering with a petty troublemaker like Lin Ruyi. To his shock, Lü Zihan had already made a move against him. The most urgent matter was to uncover Lü Zihan’s true identity and background.
Lü Zihan was in high spirits today, feeling quite pleased with himself. Yesterday afternoon, he had already reported to Deputy Director He of the Education Bureau about Zhuo Nan assaulting a teacher. He was confident that Zhuo Nan would be expelled from No.1 High School today, which would also nullify the upcoming one-on-one duel scheduled for the end of the month. That meant Lü Zihan wouldn’t have to worry about having to bow down to Zhuo Nan in the future. Although confident in his ability to defeat Zhuo Nan, he still feared the slightest chance of failure.
However, things did not unfold as he expected. Zhuo Nan, carrying his backpack as usual, walked into the classroom. Lü Zihan froze for a moment, thinking, “Could it be that he wasn’t expelled?” Then he reasoned that the school probably hadn’t called him in yet and that it would only be a matter of time before the administration dealt with Zhuo Nan and kicked him out.
With this thought, he inwardly chuckled, “Kid, you dared to cross me.”
Zhuo Nan took his seat. Nearby, Zhao Jiawen gave him a friendly smile, which left Zhuo Nan somewhat puzzled. He responded with a small smile, acknowledging the greeting.
Zhuo Nan had been casually observing Lü Zihan and noticed that he met his gaze without any sign of discomfort or suspicion. He thought, “This guy really knows how to hide his true self—a smiling tiger indeed.”
It didn’t matter much though. Zhuo Nan quickly accessed Lü Zihan’s memories, retrieving his personal information. As the saying goes, ignorance is bliss, but knowledge can be shocking. No wonder the Lin sisters mentioned that Lü Zihan had a powerful family background. Damn, it was far deeper than anyone could imagine. Considering the Dongfang family’s ability to summon agents from the National Security Bureau was already impressive, but it seemed Lü Zihan’s family was even more formidable.
The projected file before Zhuo Nan read:
Lü Zihan, male, 15 years old. Grandfather Lü Guoliang, 76, member of the Central Military Commission. Uncle Lü Yongping, 50, Chief of Staff of the Southern Military District, Lieutenant General. Second Uncle Lü Yongan, 48, Central Committee member and mayor of T City. Father Lü Yongfu, 42, Chairman of the Lü Corporation Board.
Finishing the profile, Zhuo Nan took a sharp breath. No wonder—Lü Zihan was the direct grandson of that old Central Military Commission member, a red-blooded heir. The Lü family wielded influence across military, political, and business realms. To put it bluntly, when the old man sneezed, his subordinates would treat it as an imperial decree. His own fake father-in-law, Lan Zhenghao, was nothing but a speck in their eyes.
Under the current circumstances, Zhuo Nan was no match for Lü Zihan. Though fearless and willing to risk everything to take him down and infiltrate the inner palace to confront that old man, death would be a likely outcome. Moreover, the palace was heavily guarded by numerous experts—unknown to Zhuo Nan. He also had family and friends to consider. Could he recklessly endanger them all for vengeance?
Since he couldn’t win now, patience was the only option. Though it went against his nature, the saying “A gentleman’s revenge is never too late” applied. If he couldn’t fight, he could at least hide until the right moment. A true man can be both humble and resilient. Like Han Xin once endured humiliation before soaring to greatness, Zhuo Nan would bide his time.
With this resolve, transferring schools became imperative.
Acting as if nothing had happened, the class continued. In truth, Zhuo Nan merely held a book and slept. By the end of the first period, Lü Zihan eagerly awaited the school’s disciplinary team to come for Zhuo Nan, but Zhuo Nan remained peacefully resting.

After the second period, Lü Zihan looked up again, hoping the administration would finally summon Zhuo Nan, but he still lay motionless.
At the end of the third period, Lü Zihan took out his phone and left the classroom. After a while, he returned with a gloomy expression, glared at the still sleeping Zhuo Nan, snorted coldly, and sat back down.
When the fourth period ended and the bell rang, Zhuo Nan, as if on cue, straightened up, packed his bag, and left the classroom without looking back.
Watching him leave, Lü Zihan’s eyes flashed with a sinister glint. During the third period break, he had called Deputy Director He. The answer shocked him—Secretary Lan himself had intervened in this matter. Lü Zihan was at a loss. He hadn’t expected Zhuo Nan, who appeared ordinary and backgroundless, to have the support of the Secretary of the Municipal Political and Legal Committee. Lü Zihan knew Lan Zhenghao was about to be promoted to Party Secretary of the city. Unexpectedly, Zhuo Nan’s protector was the top figure in Deqing City. If the old man decided to move, it wouldn’t be impossible. But calling in family favors just for a student would surely bring the old man’s wrath. Lü Zihan would have to consider other, subtler methods to get rid of Zhuo Nan.
Zhuo Nan was heading downstairs when Lin Rujia came rushing over, seemingly on purpose to find him. “Zhuo Nan...” she called softly, prompting him to stop.
Though Zhuo Nan could distinguish sister from younger sister, Lin Ruyi’s pranks had left him with little fondness for the Lin sisters.
He stopped, expressionless, staring at her without speaking. Lin Rujia had no choice but to say, “Zhuo Nan, I’m sorry. Ruyi told me what happened this morning, so I’m here to apologize on her behalf.”
Since she had come to apologize, Zhuo Nan, as a man, couldn’t be petty. He shrugged and said, “Lin Rujia, you don’t have to apologize to me. It wasn’t you who caused trouble. Today was just a prank she played. You can apologize for her, but if tomorrow she breaks the sky, will you fix it?”
Lin Rujia understood his meaning but had no retort. Her sister had always been wild and unruly. Before their parents left the country, they had always cleaned up after her messes. Now that they were abroad, she had to do it.
After speaking, Zhuo Nan turned to leave, but Lin Rujia called out again, “Zhuo Nan, wait.”
He turned back and asked, “What else?”
With a concerned look, she said, “I also heard about the possibility of you being expelled. Ruyi told me, and I think Lü Zihan might be behind it. You should be careful.”
Hearing this, Zhuo Nan felt grateful. “At least one sister is different.” He nodded and said, “Thanks...” then went downstairs.
Lin Rujia sighed and shook her head, walking in the opposite direction.
Unbeknownst to Zhuo Nan, someone had been watching their conversation. After they parted ways, this person followed Zhuo Nan.
Zhuo Nan turned left into an alley. Because of its poor environment, few walked there. After going down the stairs, he sensed someone deliberately tailing him and led the follower into the alley. Sure enough, the person followed him in.
However, the follower frowned upon entering. The sanitary conditions were atrocious, with sewage flowing everywhere, disgusting beyond description. She wondered why Zhuo Nan insisted on taking this path.

There was a puddle of sewage ahead. To avoid dirtying her shoes, she carefully looked down to step around it. When she finally emerged from the puddle, she looked up and saw Zhuo Nan standing ahead, smiling warmly as he said, “Zhao Jiawen, why are you following me?”
The follower was none other than their classmate Zhao Jiawen. She felt as if Zhuo Nan had stripped her bare in an instant, standing awkwardly without knowing how to respond. Taking a deep breath, she tried to bluff, “Who’s following you? I just happen to take this route too.” With that, she strode forward, deliberately lifting her head as she passed Zhuo Nan.
Watching her retreating figure, Zhuo Nan shouted, “That’s a dead end ahead. Where are you going?”
Zhao Jiawen’s heart skipped a beat. She quickly turned around, smiling as she walked back, saying, “Oops, I got the wrong way. This isn’t the road.”
Zhuo Nan said nothing but kept smiling at her. Zhao Jiawen, unnerved by his laughter, rolled her eyes and asked, “Zhuo Nan, what are you laughing at?”
Zhuo Nan shook his head. “I’m laughing because you’re terrible at lying. That road isn’t a dead end. I was just testing you, and you slipped up.” His expression darkened, his eyes piercing like cold blades into her heart. “Tell me, why are you following me? If you don’t speak, don’t blame me for being harsh.”
He cornered Zhao Jiawen against the wall. Frightened, she stammered, “D-Don’t come closer. If you dare mess with me, I’ll tell the teacher.”
Zhuo Nan couldn’t help but burst out laughing at her terrified face.
Only then did Zhao Jiawen realize she had been played. A wave of grievance filled her chest, and tears welled up and fell. Seeing this, Zhuo Nan thought, “Oh no, I made the poor girl cry. This isn’t good.”
He hurriedly apologized, “Zhao Jiawen, sorry, I was just joking. Don’t cry...”
But she ignored his words, wiping her tears, muttering, “You’re the worst. You bullied me when we were kids, and now that I’ve grown up, you still bully me...”
Zhuo Nan felt something was off. “Zhao Jiawen, are you sure you have the right person? I don’t know you.”
As soon as he said this, Zhao Jiawen cried even harder, suddenly throwing herself onto him, sobbing, “You heartless jerk! You said you’d marry me. After all these years, you don’t recognize me anymore...”
Zhuo Nan’s eyes widened, mouth agape in disbelief, standing dazed as Zhao Jiawen clung to him, punching him lightly. After a long moment, he finally said, “What the hell? Who the hell are you?”
