Chapter Thirty-Eight: Taking Advantage Again

About a minute later, Qin Chenfang called toward the doorway, “Come in.”

Zhuo Nan forced himself inside. When he looked up and saw Qin Chenfang, the blush on her cheeks had yet to fade, and her expression was awkward as she spoke to him.

By now, Qin Chenfang had slipped on an oversized T-shirt and was wearing the linen pants she had come in the first time. She avoided Zhuo Nan’s gaze, lowering her head as she said, “You’re here. Sorry, I thought Shanshan had already come back.”

Zhuo Nan scratched his head awkwardly. “Aunt Qin, it’s cold outside. You should wear more at home.” His concern was genuine, but as soon as the words left his mouth, he realized how ambiguous they sounded.

Qin Chenfang’s face flushed even more deeply. Although Zhuo Nan was still a child in her eyes, he was a high school student now and aware of matters between men and women. That comment had made her lose face at home.

She looked very embarrassed, standing there unsure of what to do. After all, this was the first time she’d encountered such a situation. Normally, her daughter and she had few visitors at home, especially not at this hour, which was usually when Shanshan returned. After a long pause, she finally said, “Zhuo Nan, have a seat. I’ll pour you a glass of water.”

Zhuo Nan’s expression was equally awkward. “Aunt Qin, no need to trouble yourself.” Just then, the sound of a door opening was heard. Both Qin Chenfang and Zhuo Nan sighed in relief—Shanshan had finally come back.

Qin Shanshan entered with her backpack on. Qin Chenfang hurriedly said, “Shanshan, look who’s here.”

Shanshan’s eyes brightened when she saw Zhuo Nan sitting by the table. She didn’t even put down her bag, running over enthusiastically. “Brother Zhuo Nan is here! How about having dinner here tonight?”

Zhuo Nan smiled and ruffled her hair. “Sure, as long as you don’t mind that I have a big appetite.”

Shanshan’s arrival immediately lightened the atmosphere. Qin Chenfang smiled and said, “I’m afraid you’ll find our cooking not good enough.”

“Not at all, Aunt Qin. Your cooking is really wonderful,” Zhuo Nan replied. “By the way, Aunt Qin, I came today to talk to you about that private restaurant. Do you have time tomorrow? I’ll accompany you there to take a look.”

Qin Chenfang shyly responded, “Zhuo Nan, is my cooking really that good?”

Zhuo Nan chuckled. “Aunt Qin, don’t belittle yourself. If I say it’s good, it definitely is.”

Little Shanshan chimed in from the side, “Yeah, Mom, your cooking is so good, it definitely is.”

Qin Chenfang burst out laughing, instantly dispelling the earlier awkwardness. Then she teased, “You two say it’s good as if you own the restaurant yourselves.”

Shanshan pouted, pretending to be sulky. “Mom, one day I’ll open a restaurant and invite you to be the chef.”

Qin Chenfang looked at Shanshan tenderly. “You just focus on your studies and get into a good university. That’ll make me happy. Now, go wash your hands and get the bowls for dinner.”

Zhuo Nan watched the mother and daughter with a smile. Though life was tough, their time together was filled with joy.

The meal was still simple, but Zhuo Nan ate heartily. After two bowls of rice, he patted his belly, satisfied, and said, “Aunt Qin, your cooking is unbeatable. Really excellent.”

Qin Chenfang covered her mouth and smiled sweetly. Zhuo Nan found himself momentarily captivated, and recalling the earlier scene, he felt an involuntary reaction stirring below. He quickly shifted his position to hide it.

Qin Chenfang didn’t notice Zhuo Nan’s subtle movements and smiled warmly. “If you like it, you’re welcome to come often. Treat this place like your own home.”

Zhuo Nan nodded with a smile. Then Shanshan said she would wash the dishes. Having eaten twice already, Zhuo Nan felt a bit embarrassed and quickly said, “Shanshan, I’ll wash the dishes with you.”

Qin Chenfang hurried to stop him. “Zhuo Nan, don’t bother. This kind of work isn’t for boys. You sit here and have some tea. She can manage it alone.”

“Aunt Qin, it’s okay. I do this often at home,” Zhuo Nan replied with a smile.

Qin Chenfang shook her head. “No need. Zhuo Nan, sit here; I have something to ask you.”

Since Qin Chenfang had something to discuss, Zhuo Nan sat back down. Shanshan took the dishes and left.

Qin Chenfang went to a cabinet, opened it, and pulled out an envelope, then handed it to Zhuo Nan. He glanced at it and guessed it was the money he had given them last time.

“Zhuo Nan, I’m returning this money to you. Your kindness is appreciated by Shanshan and me,” Qin Chenfang said softly, pushing the envelope toward him.

Zhuo Nan had anticipated this and smiled. “Aunt Qin, I don’t understand what you’re saying.”

Seeing his expression, Qin Chenfang continued, “Zhuo Nan, I know you have money, but how could we, mother and daughter, accept it? Please take it back.”

Zhuo Nan spread his hands innocently. “Aunt Qin, I really don’t understand. This money wasn’t given by me.”

Qin Chenfang frowned at him accusingly. “Don’t play dumb. If it wasn’t you, who else put it in Shanshan’s backpack? I know your intentions are good, but accepting this money makes us feel uneasy.”

Zhuo Nan continued feigning ignorance. “Aunt Qin, it’s not mine. I wouldn’t keep it.”

Pretending to be angry, Qin Chenfang picked up the envelope, walked to the window, and said angrily, “Zhuo Nan, if you don’t take it, I’ll throw it out.”

Zhuo Nan chuckled, looking indifferent. “Aunt Qin, since it’s not mine, throw it away if you want.”

Seeing his nonchalance, Qin Chenfang sighed. She realized that Zhuo Nan came from a wealthy family—ten thousand yuan was a trivial amount to him, which was why he didn’t care. She lacked the courage to throw away that sum, so surrendering, she said, “Alright, alright. I know you have money. Consider this a loan from me, and I’ll pay you back someday.”

Upon hearing this, Zhuo Nan smiled and stood up, walking beside her. “Aunt Qin, that’s a good way to think about it. After all, Shanshan still needs treatment, and you have a heavy burden. I’ve already contacted someone about the hospital for Shanshan’s treatment. Once the exact costs are clear, I’ll let you know.”

Qin Chenfang was instantly moved. Grabbing Zhuo Nan’s hand, she asked anxiously, “Zhuo Nan, is it true? I’ve already asked hospitals in the province, and they all said it’s untreatable.”

Caught off guard by her sudden grasp, Zhuo Nan looked embarrassed. Seeing his expression, Qin Chenfang realized she had gotten ahead of herself. Remembering their earlier awkward encounter, she felt deeply ashamed and quickly let go. Zhuo Nan smiled awkwardly. “It’s not confirmed yet. When I have news, I’ll let you know.”

Feeling a bit awkward being there alone with the mother and daughter, Zhuo Nan said, “Aunt Qin, it’s getting late. I should head back.”

Qin Chenfang understood what he meant but found it amusing. If she, a woman, didn’t feel embarrassed, why should a boy be shy? Still, she didn’t ask him to stay. Smiling, she said, “Alright, I won’t see you off. Go back early. How shall we keep in touch tomorrow?”

At that moment, Zhuo Nan remembered something. He quickly grabbed the backpack beside him, took out an address left by Long Kun, and handed it to Qin Chenfang. “Aunt Qin, go here tomorrow morning. We’ll meet at the entrance. Don’t miss it.”

Qin Chenfang took the note, glanced at it, and carefully pressed it under the glass. Just then, Shanshan finished washing the dishes and pushed open the door, calling out loudly, “Mom, I’m done washing.”

Qin Chenfang turned around, but then disaster struck. Zhuo Nan was standing right behind her. As she turned, she suddenly tripped over something and cried out, “Ah!” Losing her balance, she lunged toward Zhuo Nan. He hadn’t expected her to fall at home and was completely unprepared. Normally, he might have flipped backward to avoid her, but if he had dodged, she would have landed hard on the floor.

At that moment, Zhuo Nan generously became a human cushion. There was a thud as his back hit the floor hard, and Qin Chenfang’s whole weight pressed against him.

Shanshan watched this scene, unable to bear it, and closed her eyes.

Qin Chenfang had closed her eyes as she fell, knowing this would hurt. But when she landed, she realized the floor was soft. When she opened her eyes, she saw Zhuo Nan beneath her, his face contorted in pain. Unexpectedly, Qin Chenfang laughed.

Zhuo Nan grumbled, “Aunt Qin, you’re laughing? It hurts like mad.” Then he noticed two soft mounds in his hands and instantly felt invigorated, as if injected with adrenaline.

Qin Chenfang sensed something strange too. Her chest was being enveloped by something soft, and looking at Zhuo Nan’s expression, she understood immediately. Worse, she felt a rigid stick pressing against her lower abdomen. Though she had never married, as a woman in her thirties, she knew exactly what it was.

Her cheeks flushed crimson, and she was at a loss for what to do. Zhuo Nan felt the softness in his palms and enjoyed the sensation, unconsciously squeezing a couple more times. A tingling wave spread through Qin Chenfang’s body, like an electric current striking at that moment. She looked at Zhuo Nan with wide eyes and teased, “Stop squeezing…”

Just then, Shanshan ran over, helping Qin Chenfang up. Seeing her mother’s flushed face, she worriedly asked, “Mom, are you hurt?”

Blushing, Qin Chenfang shook her head. “Go help Brother Zhuo Nan.”

Obediently, Shanshan went to assist Zhuo Nan, but he was already up, though his complexion rivaled Qin Chenfang’s in redness. Shanshan immediately understood—they weren’t hurt, just embarrassed. She smiled and said, “Mom, why are you and Brother Zhuo Nan so shy? It’s no big deal that he helped you. Why are you blushing so much?”

Qin Chenfang was momentarily stunned, clearly not expecting Shanshan’s words. Pretending to be stern, she said, “You little brat, what nonsense are you talking about…” She gestured as if to swat her daughter.

Shanshan giggled and dodged behind Zhuo Nan. Qin Chenfang was at a loss, snorted coldly, and turned her head away.

Zhuo Nan then turned to Shanshan. “Shanshan, I’m leaving now. Listen to your mom while I’m gone, okay?”

Shanshan pouted, reluctant to see him go. “Brother Zhuo Nan, why are you leaving so early? It’s still so early.”

Qin Chenfang interjected, “Your brother Zhuo Nan has things to do. He doesn’t have time to play with you. Go do your homework.”

Shanshan glared at Qin Chenfang and then, with a look full of affection, said to Zhuo Nan, “Brother Zhuo Nan, you have to come back often. Shanshan misses you.”

Zhuo Nan reached out to ruffle her hair fondly. “Sure, whenever I have time, I’ll come visit often.” Then he turned to Qin Chenfang. “It’s settled then. See you tomorrow, Aunt Qin. I’m off.”

“I’ll see you out…” Qin Chenfang began, but Zhuo Nan interrupted, “No need. You stay home with Shanshan. I’m leaving.” He waved to them, opened the door, and went downstairs.

Watching Zhuo Nan leave, Qin Chenfang suddenly felt a pang of loss. In her thirty-four years, she’d only felt this once before—when she first realized she was an orphan. That overwhelming sense of emptiness filled her again now. She didn’t know why. It was as if something important had slipped away, beyond her reach, yet paradoxically close but distant.

That night, when Qin Chenfang entered the bathroom alone and undressed, standing before the mirror, she gazed at her flawless pale skin and the two dark, ripe mounds on her chest. She had never experienced intimacy with a man, though well into her thirties. Those two round forms remained full and firm—more so than many younger women. Yet in all those years, no man had ever touched them. Today, a mere fifteen-year-old boy had held them in his hands. How ridiculous that seemed.

A faint flush colored her cheeks. That tingling sensation—one she’d never felt before—was so pleasant and satisfying. Suddenly, a thought sprang to her mind: she wanted toI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
