In the Tianzi suite of Moon Phoenix Pavilion, Baili Xian sat wearing a mask, his eyes cold and vicious. Anyone could see he was in an extremely foul mood; though he sat motionless, the dangerous aura he exuded was a clear warning to stay away.

In a corner of the room stood Bing Feng, her head lowered, eyes fixed on her toes. Anxiety gnawed at her heart, terrified that the lord would vent his displeasure on her. If that were to happen, it would be nothing short of miserable.

“This way, Young Master Wuyou, the Virtuous King is inside,” the madam, Jade Fox, guided Young Master Wuyou. Several times along the way, she seemed about to speak but hesitated. Wuyou, however, only grinned, his gaze wandering over the ladies of the pavilion, oblivious to everything else.

His behavior left Jade Fox rather irritated. Damn it, are your eyes glued to those girls’ chests? Drop dead, will you!

If he’d only paid her a little attention, she might have warned him in advance that the Virtuous King was in a foul mood today—he should tread carefully.

Unknowingly, Young Master Wuyou was about to become a scapegoat. As always, he thought Baili Xian had invited him for a bit of merrymaking. With someone else footing the bill, of course he was in high spirits.

Watching Wuyou push open the door and step inside, Jade Fox patted her chest. “Good luck, Young Master Wuyou. You have my spiritual support!”

Hearing the door open, Baili Xian didn’t even lift his head, ignoring Wuyou completely and remaining as motionless as a statue.

Wuyou glanced around the room—no wine or dishes on the table, no women beside it. The only woman present, Bing Feng, stood in the corner like someone who had committed a grave offense. Had he come to the wrong place? But Baili Xian was here…

“Virtuous King, you didn’t call me over just to drink tea, did you?” Wuyou strolled in, his tone feigning mockery.

“You want tea? In your dreams! Bing Feng, go shut the door. No one else is to come in!” Baili Xian replied coldly, ordering Bing Feng to close the door. Her heart already a jumble of nerves, Bing Feng brightened at the instruction and swiftly shut the door from the outside.

Her speed left Wuyou dumbfounded, unable to react for a long moment. Only when he found himself shut inside did he realize that the whole scene was rather suspicious. Whichever way he looked at it, he had the sense of a fish trapped in a barrel.

“Virtuous King, what is this about? I don’t recall offending you,” Wuyou asked cautiously, having learned his lesson.

Baili Xian replied coolly, “Of course not. If you had, you wouldn’t still be standing there. I have something to ask you; just answer honestly.”

Wuyou breathed a sigh of relief. “All right, ask away! No need for all this drama—you know I’m easily startled.”

“Where does Chu Sheng, the Shadow Dragon Twin Swordsman, reside?” Baili Xian wasted no time with pleasantries and got straight to the point.

At the question, Wuyou’s brows immediately knitted. “Shadow Dragon Twin Swordsman? He hasn’t shown himself these past few years. Why are you asking about him? Surely your intelligence network could find out, unless you think he’s connected to me.”

Baili Xian seemed to have anticipated Wuyou’s suspicion. “Today, the Shadow Dragon Twin Swordsman openly attempted to assassinate the Empress Dowager at my residence, treating my domain as if it were nothing. This insult must be avenged, or my house loses all face.

As for his whereabouts, my people haven’t found anything. But we did discover that your Construction Hall built a house for him some years ago.”

Wuyou cursed inwardly—trouble. That kid Chu Sheng, always stirring things up. Why would he attempt to assassinate the Empress Dowager at the Virtuous King’s estate? Could it be because of me? A thousand thoughts raced through his mind, but his face remained impassive.

“Virtuous King, we cannot share client information with outsiders. It’s a rule of the Construction Hall and vital to our reputation. However, for the sake of our relationship, I’ll make an exception. Empire Capital, Chu Tan River—that’s all I can tell you.”

With that, Young Master Wuyou flicked his sleeves and strode toward the door. When he opened it, Bing Feng blocked his way. Baili Xian spoke up, “Bing Feng, let him pass.” She nodded and stepped aside.

After Wuyou left the Moon Phoenix Pavilion, Bing Feng turned to Baili Xian. “Lord, can we trust what Young Master Wuyou said?”

Baili Xian nodded and shook his head. “Young Master Wuyou never lies. But the Chu Tan River area is vast, and it’s been years since his Construction Hall built a house for Chu Sheng. With just a few words, the chances of finding him are slim.”

Meanwhile, Wuyou left the Moon Phoenix Pavilion and returned directly to his Construction Hall. Yet, half an hour later, he appeared in a bamboo grove, making his way toward a bamboo cottage.

As he walked, Wuyou whistled a peculiar tune, repeating it three times before standing motionless. Soon, a figure in white emerged—Chu Sheng. Upon seeing Wuyou, he was startled. “Big brother, what brings you here?”
