Chapter 139: Truly as Unfocused as Expected
After quickly organizing the various plans in his mind, Chen Qi locked the studio door and sat quietly in his office, preparing detailed proposals.
He needed to outline the candidates for singers, the songs to be performed, and the necessary equipment and personnel.
For support staff—such as camera operators, lighting technicians, and sound engineers—he could borrow from TV stations or Simple Video, as they already had established teams with relatively rich experience. However, he would have to find his own solutions for the band and other specialized musicians.
He also had to figure out a way to secure top-tier equipment. Neither the TV stations nor Simple Video possessed gear sufficient to support a high-quality, high-standard program of this caliber.
An audiovisual feast, after all, was not something easily achieved.
Sitting alone in the quiet studio, Chen Qi listed the items one by one.
Without realizing it, the sky grew dark. It was only when Chen Qi found it difficult to see that he snapped back to reality. He checked the time and saw it was already past seven in the evening.
Looking at the cluttered desk and the partially completed list, Chen Qi let out a long sigh of relief. He felt a sense of accomplishment.
Feeling a bit fatigued, he stretched his body, stood up, and left. He was hungry; he would continue tomorrow.
That was the benefit of working in his own space: he could leave things in a mess without worrying about cleaning up or losing anything.
...
The next day.
Fully recharged, Chen Qi arrived at the studio early. To his surprise, Su Xiaoxiao had arrived even earlier and was already cleaning up.
"Boss!" Seeing Chen Qi, Su Xiaoxiao hurriedly stopped mopping. Her relaxed demeanor instantly turned a bit nervous.
"So early?" Chen Qi looked at her, surprised.
"Yes," Su Xiaoxiao nodded and said, "Didn't you say yesterday that Qi Qi and the others were coming over to meet? I was afraid they might arrive early, so I got here ahead of time."
The "Qi Qi and the others" she referred to were the two post-production graduates.
"Oh..." Chen Qi suddenly remembered. He didn't say much more, heading straight toward his office. As he walked, he beckoned her over, "The floor isn't dirty, stop working and come help me with something."
"Huh? Oh." Su Xiaoxiao was stunned for a moment, then immediately reacted. She hurriedly put her tools back in their place and trotted into his office.
She had seen the mess on his desk and had intended to tidy it up for him, but after catching a glimpse of what was written on the papers, she hadn't dared to touch anything.
"Make a list of your favorite songs and the singers you admire," Chen Qi said, handing her paper and a pen.
"???" Su Xiaoxiao looked at him blankly, instinctively taking the pen and paper.
"I'm planning to produce a music program and need some source material," Chen Qi explained briefly.
He couldn't just pick songs and singers he personally liked; since this was for a program, he needed to seek others' opinions and consider public taste.
"Oh." Su Xiaoxiao had a sudden realization; she finally understood what the materials on the desk were for. She didn't say another word, just nodded earnestly and went out with the paper and pen.
Chen Qi didn't waste any more time and got back to work.
Just as he started, there was a knock at the door.
Su Xiaoxiao, who had been sitting on the sofa in deep thought, rushed to open it. Before long, she led a young girl in a long dress into the studio.
Whatever she said to the girl, the girl nodded gently, cast a curious glance toward Chen Qi’s office, and then sat quietly on the sofa to wait.
Shortly after, a boy who looked very honest and simple arrived at the studio.
Once both of them had arrived, Su Xiaoxiao knocked on the door of Chen Qi’s office.
"Boss, Qi Qi and the others are here."
"Good." Chen Qi, busy with his work, stopped and stood up to walk out.
There, he saw the boy and the girl. They were both people who made a good first impression on him.
Seeing Chen Qi, whom they had previously only seen on screen, both of them stared at him, looking slightly excited.
This was Chen Qi! The man who had single-handedly produced *Unexpected*, and who had just written a song two days ago!
They felt genuine admiration and appreciation for someone with such talent. It was precisely for this reason that they had been willing to give up internship opportunities at provincial TV stations to come to this studio, which had almost no reputation in the industry.
At the time they made this decision, even their classmates and teachers couldn't understand it, but they had done it anyway. Of course, coming from different schools, they had only just learned from Su Xiaoxiao that someone else had made the same bold decision.
"Hello, welcome to Chen Qi Studio. I'm Chen Qi," he said, greeting them politely as he walked up to them.
"Hello, hello, I'm Qi Qi," the girl spoke first.
"Hello, I'm Zhang Yichi," the honest-looking boy introduced himself.
Chen Qi smiled and shook their hands, saying, "First of all, thank you for being willing to intern here. It might look a bit shabby right now, but rest assured, it won't let you down."
Qi Qi and Zhang Yichi both smiled, though they remained a bit reserved and didn't say much.
"Alright, take some time to get familiar with the environment. I'll arrange your specific tasks in a couple of days." Seeing that they were both a bit nervous, Chen Qi didn't press them further.
He felt he was a bit thin-skinned. Otherwise, any other thick-skinned boss, having managed to trick two excellent graduates into coming, would have definitely painted them a grand blueprint of the future!
"Okay," Qi Qi and Zhang Yichi both nodded with smiles.
Chen Qi nodded back and turned to head back to his office. But after taking two steps, he thought of something, turned back, and said, "By the way, if you're interested, you can also share your favorite music and singers with me."
He gestured toward Su Xiaoxiao, indicating they could discuss it with her, and then turned back into his office.
"???" A bewildered Qi Qi and Zhang Yichi instinctively turned their gaze toward Su Xiaoxiao.
Su Xiaoxiao explained, "The boss said he wants to produce a music program and is currently gathering material."
"A music program?"
Hearing this, Qi Qi and the boy looked at each other in astonishment.
Having just written a song, he wanted to produce a program now?
Was he really that easily distracted from his "proper" work?
