Chapter 133: Intelligence Consolidation, Capture Plan
Su Yi synthesized the various pieces of information he possessed and laid out all his deductions.
"Your insight into the ecosystem is profound." The Commander nodded, saying, "Your explanation is quite logical. The influence of an Elder Dragon has drawn other monsters into the Ancient Forest, thereby disrupting the local ecology."
This was one of the reasons Elder Dragons were referred to as natural disasters. Their presence affected other monsters, causing some to become aggressive or migrate from their original habitats to new areas, which in turn impacted the ecosystems of those regions and indirectly threatened human safety.
"However, I have already captured the Tobi-Kadachi. What remains are the Anjanath and its subspecies, which are still locked in constant conflict," Su Yi noted.
The Commander looked surprised. "Captured already? That is incredible speed."
He had originally sent Su Yi off to track the Zorah Magdaros, yet Su Yi had returned having already subdued a Tobi-Kadachi. While the Tobi-Kadachi was significantly less powerful than an Anjanath, it was certainly not a creature that any average hunter could subdue in a few quick moves.
"Thank you for your hard work. By the way, how did the investigation into the Zorah Magdaros's trail go?" the Commander asked.
"This investigation yielded a great deal of useful intelligence," Su Yi replied, pulling out his Rotom Phone.
"This is...?"
Su Yi smiled. "It's a marvelous piece of technology from where I come from—a fusion of Pokémon and machinery."
"Hello, Roto!" the Rotom Phone chirped, displaying a grinning expression on its screen.
"Oh!? What is this? Can it speak?" the Commander asked, astonished.
"Let me show you the findings from this investigation." Su Yi opened the Rotom Phone and accessed the photo gallery. "This is the path taken by the Zorah Magdaros. Along the way, magma flowed, mountains collapsed, and canyons were formed."
As the Commander gazed at the vivid, lifelike images, he was struck not only by the sheer power of the Zorah Magdaros but also by the marvelous technology and the Pokémon Su Yi possessed.
"When we finally reached the end of the canyon, we encountered a Glavenus and a Tigrex." Su Yi played a video, which perfectly captured the entire sequence of the Glavenus sharpening its tail blade and the Tigrex launching its assault.
After watching the video, the Commander exclaimed, "To think there is technology that can record events so perfectly... simply incredible."
"Of course, there is something even more intense coming up."
In the subsequent video, the Zorah Magdaros rose from beneath the earth, the earth-shattering impact conveyed clearly through the footage.
"So, after resting, the Zorah Magdaros has moved on? Where could its destination be?" the Commander mused, stroking his chin.
Su Yi opened a hand-drawn paper map and pointed to a location. "Its original destination is likely here: the graveyard of Elder Dragons, the Rotten Vale."
"The Rotten Vale..." The Commander ignored the phrasing and frowned as he studied the rough map of the New World. He had heard the Field Team Leader mention that place—a dead land filled with corpses and miasma, home to massive, startling skeletal remains. Such sizes, he realized, could only belong to Elder Dragons.
"Take a look at this." Su Yi pulled up a photo taken from a rock pillar high above the Rotten Vale.
"Such a colossal skeleton..." The Commander’s eyes widened as he looked down from the heights at the remains of a giant serpent, winding and coiling through the rocks, spanning almost the entire canyon.
"Dalamadur," Su Yi identified the creature.
The Commander looked at Su Yi deeply. "It seems you know a great deal about Elder Dragons."
In this world, information regarding Elder Dragons was shrouded in mystery and strictly classified. Some monsters, dubbed 'forbidden,' were known only in fragments even to those in the upper echelons. While the Dalamadur was not strictly forbidden, its existence was on par with such legends—a terrifying and mysterious Elder Dragon that, by all rights, should not be known by just anyone.
How, then, did this outsider, Su Yi, know of it? Was it possible that legends of this dragon existed in his homeland as well? Su Yi’s identity and the nature of his unknown origin became even more enigmatic.
"Judging by this picture, it truly seems like many powerful monsters have perished here. Is this a graveyard for monsters?" the Commander asked, scanning the photos of the Rotten Vale on the screen.
"The trajectory of the Zorah Magdaros also aligns with this destination." Su Yi extended the path of the Zorah Magdaros on the map, leading directly to the Rotten Vale.
"If that is the case, we might be able to predict its route," the Commander nodded.
Su Yi looked at the Commander, who took a deep breath and said, "Since we have come this far, I will tell you plainly: our goal in tracking the Zorah Magdaros is to capture it!"
"Capture the Zorah Magdaros?!" the Handler exclaimed in surprise.
Aiden asked incredulously, "Can an Elder Dragon as massive as a mountain truly be captured by us?"
The Commander shook his head. "When I say capture, I mean to force it to stop its advance, giving us more time to study and investigate it."
"What are the secrets of the Elder Dragons? We might find answers by studying the Zorah Magdaros. Besides, it is nearing the end of its life," the Commander said in a low voice. This meant that if they successfully intercepted it, they might even be able to recover its remains.
"A truly bold plan..."
The Commander suddenly asked with a serious expression, "Su Yi, can your capture ball capture the Zorah Magdaros?"
"Uh!" Su Yi paused, then shook his head. "I haven't tried, but I don't think it's possible. The energy and size of the Zorah Magdaros are simply too vast; it likely far exceeds the capacity of the capture ball."
"I see. However, if your Pokémon partners can assist, the chances of success will increase significantly."
"I would be happy to join the Zorah Magdaros capture operation, but there is one creature we must be prepared for." Su Yi pulled up a photo of the Nergigante.
The Commander narrowed his eyes. "Nergigante..."
Su Yi temporarily lent the Rotom Phone to the Commander so he could extract the intelligence from the photos and videos. Su Yi pondered getting a portable printer, a digital voice recorder, and a camera next time; such items would make gathering intelligence and compiling investigation reports much more convenient and intuitive.
As for the impact caused by the Anjanath and the Fulgur Anjanath, the Commander would use the intelligence provided by Su Yi to formulate a detailed investigation and hunting plan.
Meanwhile, Su Yi made his way to the shelter located behind the stronghold.
"Not bad at all," Su Yi said, surveying his surroundings with satisfaction.
Water from the mountain peak flowed down to form a large pond, and there was a spacious cave near the base of the mountain. The rest consisted of shelters constructed from monster bones and hides, with various training posts set up in front. According to the Commander, this area was originally intended to be an additional training ground, but with a few modifications, it had become a perfect shelter.
Though slightly primitive, the basic infrastructure—trees, a river, a cave, shelters, and training areas—was quite complete. If he wanted to renovate it further later, it might cost him, but for now, it was sufficient.
"It's time for all my partners to meet each other," Su Yi said, pulling out a large handful of Poké Balls with a smile.
