Chapter Seventy-Seven: United as One!
“Awooo!” Driven by its hatred for the Mauling Claw Dragon and Su Yi, the Savage Claw Dragon immediately shifted its target and lunged straight at the Mauling Claw Dragon.
“Really holds a grudge!” Su Yi quickly released the Dazzling Bird and commanded, “Dodge it!”
Upon seeing the one who had killed its mate, the Dazzling Bird’s eyes flared red with rage and its luminescent membrane unfurled at once. Empowered by its special trait, the blinding flash hardly needed any time to warm up—just a swift burst and a brilliant flare illuminated the murky surroundings in an instant.
A wailing cry rang out!
The Corpse Shroud Dragon behind the Savage Claw Dragon was caught in the flash as well.
Su Yi: Sorry, Corpse Shroud Dragon, I didn’t mean to...
The charging Savage Claw Dragon was instantly stunned by the flash, disoriented and unsteady, tumbling to the ground. Seizing the opportunity, the Mauling Claw Dragon unleashed its Rending Claw, slashing a pale, deadly arc that tore a savage wound into its foe.
“Great Jaws Dragon! Use Swarm Attack!” Su Yi ordered.
The Great Jaws Dragon, quivering with fear, summoned its courage and let out a fierce roar. Nearby, the other Jaw Dragons, restrained by the presence of their leader but driven wild by the miasma, finally found an outlet for their aggression and leapt at the floundering Savage Claw Dragon.
Swarm Attack, a move whose power increases with the number of allies, was especially potent here in the Valley of Miasma, the Great Jaws Dragon’s home turf, with its pack as companions. Under its command, the Jaw Dragons pounced together, their aggression heightened by the miasma and further amplified by the Dark Squad’s enhancements, attacking with the ravenous frenzy of zombies scenting flesh.
The Savage Claw Dragon quickly recovered from its daze and scrambled to its feet. Even blinded, its keen sense of smell allowed it to lock onto nearby targets at once.
“Awooo!” The Jaw Dragons’ assault only enraged the Savage Claw Dragon further. It thrashed about wildly, hurling the biting Jaw Dragons from its body, then swung its claws in a furious sweep, flinging all its attackers away.
“Paralytic Venom!” Su Yi seized the moment.
The Great Jaws Dragon opened its jaws and spat a glob of pale yellow venom. The paralyzing toxins accumulated by the Jaw Dragons had nearly reached their threshold, and this final dose triggered the full effect. The Savage Claw Dragon began to convulse violently, entering a state of paralyzed rigidity.
A gust of miasma-laden wind swept by. The Corpse Shroud Dragon, recovering from its blindness, let out a terrifying howl.
At first, the Savage Claw Dragon had attacked without fear. Next, Su Yi and his companions had trespassed into its domain and brazenly disrupted it with flashes of light. Sensing this provocation, the Corpse Shroud Dragon roared in fury and launched an attack on every target before it.
It spread its wings, pushed off with all four limbs, and swooped forward in a powerful lunge.
“Run!” Su Yi shouted, recalling the trembling Burn Bug as he himself broke into a desperate sprint.
The Mauling Claw Dragon and Dazzling Bird retreated swiftly, while the Great Jaws Dragon, already filled with dread, fled for its life.
With a thunderous crash, the Corpse Shroud Dragon landed and pinned the paralyzed Savage Claw Dragon beneath its talons. The miasma from its shroud instantly coiled around the Savage Claw Dragon, ravenously draining its life force. At the same time, the wind pressure from its beating wings slammed into Su Yi’s back and knocked him down.
“Whooo!” The Corpse Shroud Dragon pressed its deadly claw on the Savage Claw Dragon, then inhaled sharply with its grotesque head. Dense miasma swirled into its gaping maw.
Su Yi was just about to get up when he heard the sound of air being drawn in and felt the miasma around him being sucked away. A chill ran through his heart—he knew exactly what attack the Corpse Shroud Dragon was about to unleash.
Just as the Corpse Shroud Dragon’s miasma breath was about to pour forth upon him, a figure darted past in a flash of white light.
“Meow!” Dewgrass let out a furious cry, thrusting forward its bone dagger wreathed in white glow. The blade slid from below into the gap between the Corpse Shroud Dragon’s outer and inner jaws, prying upward and forcing its breath to halt for a split second.
A torrent of miasma burst out as Su Yi seized that brief pause to roll aside. The howling stream of foul air rushed past his face, leaving him gasping for breath.
“Aibo!?” Su Yi quickly turned to see Dewgrass release its dagger from the Corpse Shroud Dragon’s warped jaw and dash toward him on all fours. Behind it, the Corpse Shroud Dragon, feeling mocked, swung its claws at the cat with furious malice.
“Dewgrass!” Su Yi roared, firing the Grapple Claw from his left wrist. It struck home, hooking onto the Corpse Shroud Dragon’s head. The beast froze for a split second as the cord rapidly retracted, yanking Su Yi toward its skull.
Rider Kick!
As he hurtled toward the dragon’s head, Su Yi lashed out with a powerful kick, slamming into the side of its skull and halting its attack. The Corpse Shroud Dragon’s blood-red eyes, burning with rage beneath the shroud, glared down at Su Yi with chilling malice.
“Don’t underestimate me!” Su Yi released the Grapple Claw and plummeted downward, but instantly fired it again, this time aiming for the dragon’s lower jaw.
Click! The claw latched onto the dragon’s chin again. The Corpse Shroud Dragon, infuriated, swiped its talons at the dangling Su Yi.
In the next instant, the cord retracted once more, propelling Su Yi swiftly toward the dragon’s jaw. At the same time, he swung the sword Dewgrass had given him, slashing upward in a fierce arc. The blade found the gap pried open by the bone dagger, plunging straight into the dragon’s mouth.
A sickening sound tore through the air as Su Yi drove the sword deeper—not just wedged in the jaw, but piercing the soft tissue of the upper palate.
The Corpse Shroud Dragon howled in agony, jerking its head and flinging Su Yi high into the air. But his Grapple Claw was still hooked onto the dragon’s jaw, so he swung upward like a kite, the monster’s twisted claws swiping at him as he dangled helplessly.
“Awooo!”
At that moment, the Savage Claw Dragon, weakened and battered by miasma, seized the chance to lunge at the Corpse Shroud Dragon’s flank, ramming it back several paces. In that instant, the Mauling Claw Dragon also leapt in, savagely biting at its neck and dragging its massive head downward, while Su Yi swung wildly with the dragon’s thrashing.
The Great Jaws Dragon let out a guttural roar and sprang forward to bite, joined by several Jaw Dragons who fearlessly latched onto the Corpse Shroud Dragon’s body with paralyzing fangs.
“Meow!” Dewgrass sprinted up the Mauling Claw Dragon’s back and leapt high, claws gleaming with white light as it struck at the Corpse Shroud Dragon’s eye.
The dragon twisted its head to dodge the cat’s attack, finally shaking free the Grapple Claw from its jaw and flinging Su Yi high into the air.
“Catch me, Rotom!” Su Yi called as the Rotom Phone flew from his backpack to his side. He grabbed it just in time, its levitation softening his fall.
“Waaah!” The Dazzling Bird darted like the wind, leaping up to catch Su Yi on its back.
The Corpse Shroud Dragon roared in fury, miasma swirling violently around its body in a storm that swept outward.
One by one, all the creatures near the Corpse Shroud Dragon were hurled away by the toxic wind, immediately succumbing to the miasma’s corrosive effects—limbs growing weak, breath growing short, their strength draining rapidly.
The wind howled as the Corpse Shroud Dragon stretched and opened its maw, drawing in the miasma—along with the life force of every living being present.
