Chapter 133 Startle the Snake by Beating the Grass
Chapter 134
However.
Although Bai Zeshao could not determine which faction the people monitoring him belonged to, he could safely rule out the possibility that they were from the Special Service Office.
If they were from the Special Service Office, there would be no need to go to such lengths. Moreover, what Monkey said earlier about there being no news further confirmed Bai Zeshao’s conjecture.
Monkey’s intelligence network was remarkably well-informed. Whenever there was the slightest shift within the Special Service Office—whether it was personnel transfers or expenditures on supplies—Monkey would find out about it.
Sometimes, Bai Zeshao even wondered what Monkey actually did for a living, but there was no denying that Monkey’s intelligence was exceptionally accurate.
Therefore, based on various factors, Bai Zeshao could be certain that the people at the surveillance post did not belong to the Special Service Office. Yet, to mobilize such a heavy deployment just to monitor a minor figure like himself truly surprised him a little.
Still, being monitored was ultimately a nuisance. Bai Zeshao decided to beat the grass to see if he could startle the snake hiding behind the scenes.
Meanwhile.
Liu Xiaobing left the Special Service Office, drove to a teahouse, and waited patiently.
Before long, the one-eyed Tian Yaopeng appeared before Liu Xiaobing’s eyes.
"You really are bold, coming out so openly without any disguise. There are arrest warrants plastered all over the streets for you right now," Liu Xiaobing said with a cold sneer.
"Heh, what is there to be afraid of? Don't I have Section Chief Liu sheltering me? Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to live so carefree, would I?" Tian Yaopeng said nonchalantly.
"You should weigh your words carefully before speaking, otherwise you will bring disaster upon yourself," Liu Xiaobing said with a gloomy expression.
"Heh, just making a joke, why take it so seriously? Besides, with this ghostly appearance of mine, I doubt anyone who isn't intimately familiar with me could recognize me. Those warrants all over the street are worth no more than scrap paper," Tian Yaopeng said with a chuckle.
However, only he knew how deep his hatred went inside. He swore that he would spare no cost to find the person who had caused him to fall to this state.
"Tell me, what on earth happened that day in the solitary confinement room of the Special Service Office? You actually resorted to murder and jailbreak," Liu Xiaobing asked curiously.
"Don't you already know?" Tian Yaopeng said meaningfully.
"What do you mean?" Liu Xiaobing frowned deeply, staring at Tian Yaopeng.
"Nothing special, just what you think," Tian Yaopeng said dismissively.
"Tian, you really are a bastard and an ungrateful wolf. You surely don't think my uncle was trying to frame you, do you? If that were really the case, why would he send me to help you?" Liu Xiaobing cursed angrily.
"Heh, I've finally seen through it. In this world, everyone is fake as hell. Leaving aside Section Chief Liu, I suspect everyone in the Special Service Office," Tian Yaopeng said, unbothered by Liu Xiaobing's attitude, continuing on his own.
"Hmph," Liu Xiaobing let out a cold snort and said nothing more.
"Spit it out. What on earth is your reason for asking me out today?" Tian Yaopeng did not want to continue the previous topic and asked directly.
"Where are you staying right now?" Liu Xiaobing asked bluntly.
Unexpectedly, as soon as the question left his mouth, Tian Yaopeng stood up with a vigilant look on his face. "What do you mean? If you have business, state it. If not, I'm leaving."
"You're overthinking it. If I really wanted to arrest you, I could have made a move the moment you walked through the door."
Liu Xiaobing paused for a moment before continuing, "I brought you here simply to ask if you still want to return to the Special Service Office."
A trace of temptation flickered in Tian Yaopeng’s eyes, but in the end, he refused. "Forget it. I'm tired of the days of killing and fighting anyway. Fortunately, I can leave this devil's den now."
"Fine, I just hope you don't regret it," Liu Xiaobing glanced sideways at Tian Yaopeng with disdain and said indifferently.
"If there's nothing else, I'm leaving," Tian Yaopeng said, standing up immediately without giving Liu Xiaobing a chance to react, and walked straight out.
"Heh, truly cautious. No wonder he manages to live so carefree," Liu Xiaobing muttered with a wry chuckle, and then he, too, stood up and left.
Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, an entire day passed. Accompanied by the evening shades, Bai Zeshao finished work.
He soon reached the entrance of the alley. Raising his head, he glanced at the brightly lit small building, and under the cover of the night, he slipped into the building as nimbly as a monkey.
Knock, knock!
A crisp knock sounded. The two people inside the building were startled, then cautiously opened the door.
Before they could open it more than a tiny crack, Bai Zeshao lunged forward and burst in forcefully.
The two men at the door were taken aback, but by the time they recovered, Bai Zeshao’s fierce, storm-like attacks were already raining down upon them.
Bai Zeshao’s movements were clean and decisive, and he subdued the two men in no time. Only then did he begin to survey the layout of the room.
It was very simple: a telephone and two pairs of binoculars.
As Bai Zeshao looked around the room, the two bound men finally recognized him and cried out in unison, "It's you!"
"You recognize me? That makes things much easier," Bai Zeshao turned his head, looked at the two of them, and smiled faintly.
"We recognize you," the two men said dejectedly.
"Alright, since you know me, you certainly know what I do. I won't waste words. Tell me, who are you people, and who ordered you to do this?" As he spoke, Bai Zeshao casually tossed a pair of binoculars onto the ground.
"Team Leader Bai, we can't talk. Once we speak, not only will we have no way to survive in this line of work, but I'm afraid even our families will be implicated," one of them pleaded, looking at Bai Zeshao.
"It seems you only fear the people behind you, yet you don't fear the person right in front of you," Bai Zeshao sneered.
"I'll ask one last time: are you going to talk or not?"
"We can't talk, truly, Team Leader Bai, please don't force us, fine..."
Splat!
Before he could finish his sentence, Bai Zeshao picked up a dagger from the table and drove it straight into the man's chest.
"You... you..." The man failed to utter a complete sentence before collapsing in a pool of blood with lingering resentment.
"And you? Do you have anything you want to say, or would you like to accompany him down below?" Bai Zeshao turned his gaze to the other man and asked very casually.
That man was utterly terrified by Bai Zeshao’s casual and ruthless methods. Hearing the question, he blurted out, "I'll talk! I'll tell you everything!"
"That's right. Being alive is better than anything else; living on in disgrace is far better than dying a dramatic death. It seems you still have some sense. Speak," Bai Zeshao casually pulled over a chair and sat down.
"If I tell you everything, I hope you can spare my life," the man tied to the ground bargained.
"Even if I spare your life, do you think the people behind you will let you go? Better confess what you know first," Bai Zeshao sneered, urging him on.
The face of the man on the ground turned ashen. Bai Zeshao was right.
