Chapter 11: A God of Wealth Arrives in the Entertainment Industry (11)
Most importantly, Jiang Nianian’s acting is quite good, and she’s not lacking in looks either—she fits the role perfectly.
“It seems we’ve troubled Second Miss Jiang for nothing,” Director Jiang said apologetically to Jiang Youyou, determined to offend no one.
“Do you know why Jiang Nianian needs to rely on Fang Jinnian?” Jiang Youyou put away her phone, smiling brightly at Jiang Jing.
“Heh, you must be joking, Second Miss Jiang. Isn’t she your elder sister? Besides, she herself suits the character extremely well,” Jiang Jing replied, his smile stiff and insincere.
“That’s because I’m the one most favored at home!” Jiang Youyou answered herself, unconcerned.
Then she glanced at Jiang Jing, the corners of her lips curving slightly. “Then does Director Jiang know why Fang Jinnian dares to strut around in front of me now?”
“I’m afraid I don’t understand what you mean, Miss Jiang.” Jiang Jing glanced behind him, noticing the two approaching, his smile freezing on his face.
He couldn’t help but feel a surge of resentment in his heart. These noble daughters from wealthy families—why not simply enjoy a life of ease? Why come to the entertainment industry and stir up trouble?
Jiang Youyou paused for a moment, waiting until Fang Jinnian and Jiang Nianian were close enough, before she smiled and spoke. “Naturally, it’s because of the engagement between the Fang and Jiang families!”
At the mention of engagement, both Jiang Nianian and Fang Jinnian’s faces soured. Jiang Nianian even felt Fang Jinnian’s hand, which was holding hers, burn with discomfort—after all, Fang Jinnian’s fiancée wasn’t her, but Jiang Youyou—her own younger sister.
Jiang Jing was nearly cursing inwardly, though his face remained all smiles.
“Then, Director Jiang, do you know why the Fang and Jiang families are engaged?” Another question was tossed his way, and Jiang Jing’s smile faltered, his face troubled. “Second Miss Jiang, it’s not that I don’t want to give you this role, but the female lead has already been decided, the contract’s been signed—if I go back on my word now…”
“It’s because the Fang family, this little declining clan, couldn’t make it on their own, so they begged the Jiang family for help. Relying on the goodwill between the elders, they managed to secure this engagement. But look at them—the Fang family’s skin is thicker than the city walls.
“They were head over heels for my sister before. When my sister wasn’t willing, they came to curry favor with me. Now that my sister’s back, perhaps they think she’s easier to handle and have cozied up to her again. When you think about it, the Jiang family really has it rough.”
Jiang Youyou spoke with mock pity, all the while watching the pair closely.
Sure enough, as soon as Jiang Youyou finished, Jiang Nianian’s face turned deathly pale. Even though she was ostensibly left out of the story, she knew better than anyone where the truth lay—wasn’t this just a roundabout way of cursing her?
Fang Jinnian’s expression shifted dramatically on the spot; dragging Jiang Nianian forward, he stopped in front of Jiang Youyou. Relying on his height, he looked down at her, his voice cold and sharp: “Jiang Youyou, don’t push your luck. I haven’t even settled accounts with you for last time!”
Every word carried the domineering tone of someone used to authority.
Jiang Youyou couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Only a true oddball could speak with such melodramatic flair!
Ordinary people simply couldn’t manage such a bizarre tone.
“You say that as if you could actually do something to me.” Jiang Youyou replied with composure, while Fang Jinnian’s face darkened like ink.
The stark contrast between them provided ample entertainment for the onlookers.
In fact, more than a few people quietly gave Jiang Youyou a mental thumbs-up—Second Miss Jiang was truly impressive!
[Hatred value +5! Total: 50! Host, keep it up!]
“Jiang Youyou, you’ve got some nerve!” Fang Jinnian’s face was flushed with anger. Ever since taking control of the Fang family, when had he ever been so humiliated?
Now, having been played by Jiang Youyou again and again, he couldn’t hold back any longer.
“I eat well, sleep well, and my health is excellent, so I don’t really need your concern. But as for that chronic kidney problem of yours, you might want to be careful—you could end up needing a transplant.” Jiang Youyou replied, unruffled.
