“If Duoduo can’t finish it, she doesn’t have to. She can just leave it on her plate.”

“Mommy, I can finish it!”

Her father and big brother had given it to her. If she didn’t finish, they would be sad!

Duoduo picked up a slice of bread and nibbled at it.

After a few bites, she took a sip of milk.

It took her nearly an hour to finish two cups of milk and three slices of bread.

Stuffed to the point of exhaustion, she collapsed into Lin Jianyue’s arms, rubbed her round little belly, and let out a milky burp.

She was so full. She never wanted to eat bread again!

[Am I still half-asleep this early in the morning? Am I really seeing General Ling and Zhang Yangfan fighting over Duoduo’s affection?]

[You’re not seeing things. I’m the one who must be losing my mind. Can this scene of a loving father and devoted daughter really happen with General Ling? What about all the people and monsters he killed before? Were they simply unlucky?]

[General Ling has changed! Does that mean I have a chance of marrying him now?]

The livestream’s comment section was filled with every imaginable opinion.

Three years after the monsters descended, the Haunted Forest had long since become humanity’s nightmare.

And as the strongest existence in the Haunted Forest, Ling Yun was the terror of them all.

Yet one day, this thousand-year-old Ghost King, who had killed without blinking, suddenly became a doting father.

He was even jealous of his own kind over a human child!

The viewers declared that either they had gone mad, or the world had.

[Looks like General Ling has truly fallen for her this time. But this challenge lasts only seven days. Once those seven days are over, they’ll have to part ways. Given how deeply invested General Ling is now, will he really be willing to let the little one go?]

[Don’t forget—the true trial of Sweet Home begins three days from now. This little girl may have won Ling Yun’s affection, but that doesn’t mean she’ll survive to the end!]

That comment reminded everyone of the danger.

In previous years, those who entered the Sweet Home challenge would often die in the sudden incident on the fourth day, even if they had managed to survive the first three.

And since the incident was different every year, no one knew what would happen this time.

One thing, however, was certain: as a monster of the Haunted Forest, Ling Yun could not step in to protect the little girl.

If she wanted to survive, she would have to rely on herself!

Ling Yun had not forgotten about this. After breakfast, he left the house.

The day before, he had gone looking for the Lord of the Haunted Forest, but unfortunately, he had not found her.

Only the Lord knew what would happen on the fourth day of Sweet Home.

Since she was nowhere to be found, he would have to think of another way.

When the challenge began, there had been forty doors in the Haunted Forest. Now, only eleven remained.

Ling Yun went next door and knocked.

The monster living in Room Eight assumed that fresh food had been delivered and eagerly opened the door.

When he saw Ling Yun standing outside, his legs trembled with fright. The two heads growing from his shoulders began knocking against each other in terror.

“Big brother, it’s General Ling.”

“Little brother, I can see that! Help shield me!”

“You’re the older one. You should protect me…”

“Enough!”

The noise gave Ling Yun a headache. He coldly cut them off.

“Do you have a porcelain doll or some kind of stuffed toy?”

“No!”

“I know! The little monster in Room Sixteen has one. She loves rag dolls!”

The two heads on his shoulders turned toward Room Sixteen at the same time.

Ling Yun followed their gaze. The door in front of him slammed shut with a bang.

His brows drew together, and black mist surged violently around him.

But when he thought of Duoduo, he restrained it and slowly walked to the door of Room Sixteen.

He knocked twice. A little girl opened the door.

She looked about the same age as Duoduo.

The whites of her eyes were missing, leaving her pupils completely black.

In her hands, she held a tattered rag doll.

The moment she saw Ling Yun, she was so frightened that she dropped onto the floor.

Ling Yun glanced at her and snatched the rag doll from her hands.

“I’m requisitioning this.”

“Waaah! General Ling is bullying a child!”

The little girl sat on the floor and wailed at the top of her lungs.

Ling Yun was not fooled by such theatrics. He kicked her back inside, then shut the door.

“So noisy!”

Suddenly, Ling Yun thought of Duoduo.

Fortunately, his own little nuisance was quiet. Otherwise, he would have thrown her into the toilet and drowned her on the very first day!

With that thought, Ling Yun picked up the rag doll.

It was covered in blood and torn almost beyond recognition.

Frowning, he went to another house to borrow a needle and thread.

In the eyes of every monster, Ling Yun was a living King of Hell. They all avoided him like the plague.

When they heard that he wanted to borrow a sewing kit, none of them dared ask questions.

They passed the kit through the crack beneath the door, then hurriedly shut it again.

Ling Yun: “…”

Was he really that frightening?

How could these monsters be even more timid than Duoduo? She wasn’t afraid of him at all!

When Ling Yun returned home, he carried the tattered rag doll and the sewing kit into his room and locked the door behind him.

Holding the needle, he awkwardly threaded it.

Then, stitch by stitch, he began mending the torn places on the doll.

He had never been good at sewing. Back in the military camp, whenever his clothes tore, someone else would repair them for him.

He had always assumed that sewing was easy.

Only after he actually tried did he realize that handling such a tiny needle was even harder than wielding a sword!

“What a nuisance!”

After a few stitches, Ling Yun lost patience.

He tossed the rag doll onto the floor and abruptly stood up.

Yet after stepping over it, he silently turned back and picked it up again.

Forget it. It was only a matter of sewing a few pieces back together.

He had once been a victorious general. He could sever an enemy commander’s head with ease.

How could a mere rag doll possibly defeat him?

Ling Yun sat down again and resumed sewing.

His movements were clumsy. By the time he had finished, his fingers were practically riddled with needle holes.

He rose and glanced out the window. The red moon of the Haunted Forest had already climbed into the sky.

A single rag doll had taken him an entire day.

If Duoduo dared complain that his stitching looked ugly, he would throw her into the sewer!

Ling Yun opened the door, and two small figures suddenly tumbled inside.

When he looked up at Ling Yun, Zhang Yangfan hurriedly scrambled to his feet.

Duoduo was bundled in so many clothes that she looked like a little ball.

She landed at Ling Yun’s feet and let out a small cry of pain.

Ling Yun lifted her up and set her steadily on the floor.

His cold gaze swept over Zhang Yangfan.

“What are you doing outside my room with your sister?”

“It wasn’t me! My sister was curious about what you were doing.”

Afraid of Ling Yun, Zhang Yangfan waved his little hands so quickly that they became a blur.

When Ling Yun realized that Duoduo had been worried about him, a trace of pleasure stirred in his heart.

He held out the ugly doll in his hand and showed it to her.

“What an ugly doll!”

The words escaped Duoduo instinctively the moment she saw the hideous doll appear.

Ling Yun’s expression darkened, and the hand holding the doll suddenly tightened.
