Chapter 7: Does He Have No Need for Pride?
Could it be that Zhang Yangfan holds a special place in Duoduo's heart?
Zhang Yangfan immediately straightened his back, his entire body trembling uncontrollably. His CPU felt as if it were about to burn out; he couldn't think of any way to explain this. Trembling, he picked up a piece of vegetable and offered it to Ling Yun.
"This... this was meant for Father from his little sister. It was... it was placed in the wrong spot."
"No, it wasn't! It was for my brother. My brother is too short, and Mother Director said that eating vegetables helps you grow tall! Father is already so, so tall; if he eats more vegetables, I won't be able to reach him anymore!"
Duoduo tilted her soft, fair little face, looking up at Ling Yun with a smile full of innocence. Ling Yun was satisfied and ate the meat from his bowl. Zhang Yangfan let out a sigh of relief and silently lowered his head to eat his vegetables. Even though they were both his "children," this old ghost Ling Yun was truly biased!
Seeing that the whole family had eaten the food she served, Duoduo happily picked up her chopsticks. She tasted a bite of the tomato and scrambled eggs, and her round eyes lit up.
"Mother’s cooking is so delicious!"
"Then try this; it's my specialty." Being praised for the first time, Lin Jianyue was delighted. She momentarily forgot that Ling Yun was still nearby and took the initiative to serve Duoduo.
Ling Yun frowned, set down his chopsticks, and scooped a spoonful of soup for Duoduo. "Drink your soup first!"
"Okay, Father!" Duoduo responded sweetly, picked up her bowl, and took a sip.
It was mushroom soup, and it tasted delicious. Duoduo smacked her lips and looked at Lin Jianyue with a beaming smile. "The soup is also very tasty. I want more."
"If you like it, have some more. Mother will serve you." Lin Jianyue was overjoyed and filled Duoduo’s bowl to the brim.
Ling Yun was displeased. He picked up a piece of meat and held it to Duoduo’s lips. "How can you just drink soup? Open up!"
"Ah..." Duoduo opened her mouth obediently and took the meat from the chopsticks. As she chewed, she tilted her little head and smiled at Ling Yun.
Ling Yun felt a moment of distraction; his tightly knitted brows slowly relaxed. Remembering that he was a millennium-old Ghost King, he cleared his throat and looked at Zhang Yangfan. "Since you’ve finished eating, go and make up your little sister's bed."
Zhang Yangfan: "..." He had only just started eating! Knowing he was no match for the Ghost King, Zhang Yangfan silently got up and headed to the bedroom.
They were supernatural entities; they didn't need to eat or sleep. However, the "Sweet Home" instance was themed around a family. Whatever a home was like in reality, it was the same here—everything was provided.
In the room belonging to Ling Yun and Lin Jianyue, there was a large bed. Zhang Yangfan and Duoduo shared a room with bunk beds. Because Duoduo was so young and Zhang Yangfan feared she might roll off if she slept too high up, he had given the bottom bunk to her.
After the meal, Duoduo grabbed the TV remote and scrambled onto the sofa. Ling Yun glanced at her, reached out, grabbed her by the collar, and hoisted her up. No sooner had Duoduo sat on the sofa than she began crawling on all fours toward Ling Yun.
Ling Yun shifted to the side and said in a deep voice, "I don't like children. Stay away from me!"
"Oh!" Duoduo stopped and held out the remote to Ling Yun. "Father, I want to watch cartoons. Can you help me?"
Duoduo blinked her eyes, looking at him with expectation. Ling Yun frowned. Was she trying to get close to him just to watch cartoons? Ling Yun couldn't describe what he was feeling at that moment. He took the remote, turned on the TV, and switched to the channel playing cartoons.
When Zhang Yangfan finished making the bed and came out, Duoduo was sitting on the sofa, happily watching cartoons. There was a person-sized gap between her and Ling Yun. Thinking this was a spot saved for him, Zhang Yangfan ran over happily and sat between them.
Ling Yun’s gaze turned icy, and he kicked him off the sofa without ceremony.
"Ouch..." Zhang Yangfan climbed up from the floor, rubbed his backside, and looked at Ling Yun with a pitiful expression. He was an SS-rank supernatural entity, after all! For old man Ling Yun to kick him off the sofa right in front of the little sister—didn't he have any dignity?
"Get lost!"
"You got it!" The moment Ling Yun spoke, Zhang Yangfan lost all his temper. He replied sycophantically and limped over to sit down next to Duoduo.
Ling Yun turned his head to look at Duoduo. Seeing her eyes wide, staring unblinkingly at the cartoon, he cleared his throat and shifted slightly toward her. Duoduo didn't react; she hadn't noticed his movement at all. Ling Yun glanced out of the corner of his eye and shifted a little closer again.
The distance between the two shrunk from a full seat width to a mere sliver. Ling Yun looked, and he was satisfied. Now, no one could stand between father and daughter!
*Such a tsundere!* Zhang Yangfan glanced over and cursed silently. He clearly liked the little sister, yet he insisted on acting as if he didn't care. It was a good thing he was smart and had figured it out early on. Otherwise, if he had inadvertently harmed Duoduo, his supernatural life would have been over!
After the cartoons were over, it was still early. Seeing Lin Jianyue come out of the kitchen, Duoduo hopped off the sofa and trotted over to her. Seeing the empty spot beside him, Ling Yun’s heart felt empty as well. He turned to look at Duoduo, only to see her tugging on Lin Jianyue’s tongue, looking up at her with her little face.
"Mother, can you play a game with Duoduo?"
She wasn't asking him to play? Ling Yun sat on the sofa with a dark expression, his legs crossed. Lin Jianyue, thinking Duoduo wanted to play tug-of-war again, quickly pulled her tongue back and shoved it haphazardly into her mouth.
"Duoduo, go ask Father to play!" Lin Jianyue mumbled, her voice muffled as she covered her mouth.
Duoduo understood her nonetheless and turned to look at Ling Yun. Their eyes met, and Ling Yun quickly looked away. "I don't like children, I'm not playing!"
"Little sister, shall I play hide-and-seek with you?" Hearing mention of a game, Zhang Yangfan perked up. He jumped off the sofa and ran excitedly to Duoduo.
Duoduo’s round eyes lit up, and she nodded like a pecking chicken. Zhang Yangfan covered his eyes and turned around. "I'm going to count now. I'll come find you when I reach one hundred. You’d better hide well!"
"Count slowly, brother, don't count too fast!" Duoduo said as she ran off.
Zhang Yangfan’s ears twitched; judging by the sound, he could tell she had run toward the bedroom. He chuckled and began counting: "One, two..."
Unlike the other rooms, Room 1 was filled with warmth. The audience watching the livestream from behind their screens was shocked again and again.
[Wait, isn't this a horror instance? How are they living such a happy life?]
[Don't say that, but with one human and three supernatural entities, they really do look like a family of four!]
[It's not four, it's five. Did you forget about the hidden supernatural entity?]
Seeing the scrolling comments, the viewers watching the stream began to anticipate what would happen next. They wondered when that hidden entity would finally reveal itself. The viewers stared intently at the screen, terrified of missing a single frame.
However, even after seeing the "family of four" lie down, the hidden entity still didn't appear. Lin Jianyue feared Ling Yun and knew he didn't like close contact with others, so she voluntarily made a pallet on the floor. In any case, as supernatural beings, they didn't need to sleep; lying down was just to follow the game's rules, and it didn't matter where they laid.
She raised her hand and turned off the lights. The red moonlight from outside the window poured in, and by its faint glow, one could just make out something wriggling under the quilt.
[It's here! It's finally here!]
