Chapter Forty-Two: The Assassin
“Su Ye, don’t think I’m afraid of you! So what if you got first place?” Li Weiqiang saw someone was coming to stop him and immediately shouted.
Su Ye shook his wrist and smiled coldly. Some people simply don’t deserve any courtesy; let them take an inch, and they’ll demand a mile, shamelessly so.
“I’m not one for beating around the bush. You’re not afraid of me, are you? Then I’ll make you afraid!”
Swish!
Su Ye placed a hand on the servant’s shoulder in front of him, vaulted smoothly over the crowd blocking his way, and landed lightly before Li Weiqiang.
Li Weiqiang was startled and, without thinking, grabbed at Su Ye. He was confident—he’d opened forty meridians, he thought he could fight Su Ye to a draw.
“You dare strike me?”
With a thunderous surge in his own meridians, Su Ye twisted his hand, caught Li Weiqiang’s wrist in a claw-like grip, and with a crack dislocated it.
“Ah—Su Ye, you useless bastard! Are you rebelling now?” Li Weiqiang roared and kicked out.
Su Ye dropped his elbow, with a thud sending Li Weiqiang’s leg back where it came from, followed by another scream of agony.
Smack!
Su Ye dealt him a fierce slap, shouting, “You shameless thing! You dare demand three million from me?”
Slap, slap!
Two more vicious blows landed.
The onlookers were thrown into chaos, wanting to intervene but terrified by Su Ye’s ferocious slapping.
Lai Shuqin rushed forward, shrieking, “Su Ye, you really dare to hit people now! You’re lawless! Today I have to teach you a lesson!”
Su Ye had no patience for the so-called rule of not hitting women. If the person was vile, they deserved a slap.
Smack!
This blow, sharp as a gust, not only sent Lai Shuqin flying but knocked over several servants as well.
Li Weiqiang tried to seize the opportunity to retaliate, but Su Ye punched him in the stomach, doubling him up like a shrimp.
“Not afraid, are you? Are you afraid now?” Su Ye demanded after two more fierce slaps.
“Su Ye, you little beast—ah!” Li Weiqiang started to shout but was silenced by several more blows.
“Are you afraid now?” Su Ye asked coldly.
“If you’ve got guts, kill me! I’ll tell you—ah, ah! Stop! Please, stop!”
Smack, smack!
“Are you afraid now?” Su Ye pressed.
“Yes, yes, I’m afraid! Don’t hit me anymore, I shouldn’t have been greedy for your things!” Li Weiqiang’s face and eyes were so swollen he resembled a pig’s head.
Just then, Su Ye’s raised hand abruptly paused.
Because of the great battle at school, even now, fighting Li Weiqiang had his nerves taut. In that instant, he sensed a murderous aura in the hall.
It was the kind of presence only someone who’d faced life and death could detect—fleeting, but unmistakable.
He froze, recalling what the third steward had said about the masked intruder. Could that person be here?
In a flash, Su Ye’s mind raced!
The third steward had dispatched everyone to search but found nothing. This was a familiar estate—how could they not track anyone down? But the hall was different; here were thirty or forty people, including stewards, servants, gardeners, cooks, and more. Not to mention drivers brought by relatives like Li Weiqiang and Lai Shuqin.
If someone hid here, it would be the safest place!
Su Ye wouldn’t have noticed anything normally, but just now, when he started fighting, the intruder must have reacted defensively, even revealing murderous intent.
“Everyone—don’t move!” Su Ye shouted sharply, stunning the whole room.
His gaze swept over the faces of the servants; some were injured, bandaged and hard to recognize.
“A Ying, if I killed Li Weiqiang right now, with so many people here, who would betray me?”
Jiang Liuying had been enjoying the spectacle, teasing Su Ye for his ferocity, but at these words, she paused, slowly put down her chips, and let her gaze sweep over the servants.
She smiled, touched her delicate nose, and while secretly dialing a number on her phone, said, “If you ask me—who could betray you, hmm…”
Suddenly!
A servant in white who had been standing in a corner abruptly drew a dagger, its cold gleam flashing across the hall as he lunged at Jiang Liuying.
“It’s him—!” Su Ye shouted, instinctively grabbing Li Weiqiang and hurling him as a weapon, smashing him toward the attacker.
The white-clad servant moved fast, striking without warning; no one had time to react.
But Jiang Liuying sprang away, retreating seven or eight meters at once, crashing into the nearby table.
“Get down! He’s trying to kill someone—!”
The hall erupted in panic; everyone was trying to evade the wounded assassin, never expecting he’d been hiding among them all along.
“Ah—run!”
“Help! The assassin is here, someone help!” Many screamed.
Most servants followed Jiang Liuying, rushing into a nearby pantry to hide.
A dozen people piled inside!
Su Ye grabbed a chair and leapt, swinging it down at the assassin.
“Courting death!”
The assassin’s eyes flashed with ruthless intent; he kicked the chair to pieces and slashed his dagger at Su Ye’s throat.
Swish!
A cold blade passed!
Su Ye, mid-air, reacted instinctively, withdrawing all his thunder-source energy, and managed to turn his head aside by an inch.
Stab—
The icy dagger sliced just in front of his throat, a thin trail of blood instantly welling up.
Before he could look, the assassin kicked him again, sending him crashing to the floor. Su Ye touched his throat, sweat pouring from him.
Half an inch closer, and his throat would have been cut!
Clearly, the assassin’s skill was far beyond what Su Ye could handle now. If the man weren’t gravely injured, Su Ye would be dead already.
“Get in and hide! Don’t come out!” Su Ye shouted, rushing into the pantry himself. With only one door, if they held it, they could hold out until Jiang Ziyang and the others arrived.
Bang!
But before Su Ye could get inside, the single door was smashed apart by half a chair hurled in; the servants inside screamed in terror, but none dared come out.
Su Ye was frantic—there were only coffee machines and juicers in here; what could he use to block the way?
“Wait, help, help!” At that moment, Li Weiqiang limped over.
He’d just been thrown by Su Ye and kicked by the assassin, pain almost making him vomit bile. But he was always a coward, so when the assassin appeared, he’d donned a bulletproof vest and had no real injuries.
Su Ye saw him and was instantly delighted. “Come here, quick!”
“Ah, Su Ye, I never thought you’d stand by me in a crisis after all I did…ah, what are you doing, put me down! Damn it, ah, how can you use me as a shield!” Li Weiqiang was furious—Su Ye had grabbed him and planted him at the doorway as a human shield.
Damn it! He was a person—how could he block the assassin?!
Stab, stab!
“Let me go, ah, my butt—” Li Weiqiang’s screams echoed through the estate; his buttocks and thighs were stabbed who knew how many times by the assassin.
The people hiding in the pantry were dumbfounded, but at this moment, they had nothing to say.
Jiang Liuying, hiding behind Su Ye, called out, “Su Ye, isn’t this a bit much? I think he’s about to die…”
“Then why don’t you go out and block the way?” Su Ye retorted quickly.
“Well, it’s better to let Qiangzi do it! He seems perfect for the job!” Jiang Liuying even made a “thumbs up” gesture at Li Weiqiang.
“Haha, you’re quick to pick up on my signal!”
“Of course. When have you ever called me ‘A Ying’? And every time you say ‘betray,’ it means there’s a mole. I caught on right away!” Jiang Liuying said smugly.
Outside, Li Weiqiang was so angry he could spit blood.
“Ah, ah, you’re still chatting! Help! Put me down! Ah, my butt!”
Meanwhile, the assassin outside had become flustered and wasn’t planning a deathmatch anymore—he turned to flee.
At that moment, Jiang Ziyang and the stewards burst in.
“Where do you think you’re going?!”
