Chapter Ninety-Two: Fighting Side by Side
She managed to breathe out a few broken words. Her expression seemed frozen in place, and the searing agony in her heart left her unable to move an inch.
What she could not understand even more was that, as she turned, someone had driven a blade straight into her heart—and that person was Ouyang Yunfeng.
She stared at his pale face so close before her and still refused to believe it.
She reached out, as if to tear away the face in front of her, to see whether it was truly Ouyang Yunfeng. As a martial artist, even with her heart pierced, she would not die at once. She forced out, “You, aren’t you dead? You...”
“Yes! I was dead—I’m here to claim your life!” Ouyang Yunfeng’s face was as white as paper. His hand on the long spike twisted violently, and in an instant it tore through Ouyang Man’s heart.
Ouyang Man had been trying to say something else, but the moment she opened her mouth, a mouthful of blood surged up, and she could no longer utter a single word.
Her body stiffened, and she fell straight down.
Ouyang Man died like that.
She died with her eyes open.
Why? She had personally seen Ouyang Yunfeng killed, and the wound had been in the heart—there could be no doubt he would die. Why was he still able to stand?
This was not only Ouyang Man’s last thought, but also the thought of every martial artist around them.
They had all believed that the young alliance lord, Ouyang Yunfeng, was dead. No one expected that Ouyang Man would be the one to die, and that the supposedly dead Ouyang Yunfeng would come back to life.
All advantages were overturned in that instant.
They had not only failed to follow Ouyang Man and seize the young alliance lord’s position, becoming heroes in the process; they had instead become traitors to the entire Martial Alliance, and what awaited them would surely be the alliance’s merciless pursuit.
“The young alliance lord— it really is the young alliance lord!”
“How is he still alive? No, he cannot be alive. If he lives, we are finished!”
Though they no longer had a leader, they knew that even if they ran, they could not escape.
And in appearance, although Ouyang Yunfeng had come back to life, blood was still pouring from his chest, and he too was on the verge of collapse.
Now was the best moment to kill Ouyang Yunfeng.
Even though Ouyang Man was dead, there were still several elder brothers, and they too wanted Ouyang Yunfeng dead. If Ouyang Man were still alive, they might have fled and been punished at worst. But now, they could not run.
They could only kill Ouyang Yunfeng and throw themselves behind a new patron.
Silently, quite a few bold martial artists even began to move forward.
“You still don’t know when to die!” Su Ye suddenly roared and charged straight in.
But the moment he moved, those martial artists immediately made up their minds. They all earned their living by gambling with death, or else they would never have dared follow Ouyang Man here to kill Ouyang Yunfeng.
So in an instant, they all pounced toward Ouyang Yunfeng.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Su Ye swept across them in one fierce pass, but he no longer dared to unleash his thunderfire.
First, though he had seemed magnificent just now, the pain splitting through the major acupoints all over his body made it impossible to continue attacking with thunderfire.
Second, his thunderfire could not distinguish friend from foe. It only spared him. If he swept through and burned Ouyang Yunfeng to death as well, then everything would truly be over.
Though Ouyang Yunfeng was battered and bleeding, he still wielded the long spike and ruthlessly cut down several martial artists.
Su Ye arrived in a flash and blasted the other two alchemists flying. The two of them immediately gathered together, and the surrounding martial artists at once surrounded them from all sides.
“Can you still hold on?” Su Ye and Ouyang Yunfeng pressed their backs together, facing the ring of enemies.
These martial artists were no longer killing Ouyang Yunfeng merely for reward; they were killing for survival.
“Good enough!” Ouyang Yunfeng’s face was as pale as paper. He had to lean on Su Ye’s back just to remain standing. The reason he had not died when his heart was pierced was a secret known only to a very few: his heart had long since been gone.
Even so, the spike had driven through him and out his back, leaving him in unbearable agony.
Still, they both knew that in that moment, that was the only way.
“Don’t you dare die!”
Kill!
The martial artists around them surged in, and Su Ye and Ouyang Yunfeng exploded with power, meeting the attack head-on.
In an instant, the air was filled with screams, and flesh and blood flew everywhere.
Just then, from outside the estate came a burst of shouting—someone was fighting their way in.
“The young alliance lord is inside—save him!”
“Who dares stop us? The One Pill Residence is courting death—break in! Save the young alliance lord!”
Boom!
A group of Martial Alliance fighters stormed in from outside.
The gate that had been shut was kicked flying by several of them. Among the Martial Alliance fighters, two graceful figures were especially striking: Jiang Liuying and Chen Jiayi.
With a large number of Martial Alliance fighters charging in, everyone in the One Pill Residence immediately knew they had utterly failed.
At once, they scattered and fled for their lives.
The many desperate martial artists who had been surrounding the place now withdrew like a retreating tide, and even the higher walls and larger grounds could not stop them; they all rushed out.
Meanwhile, the Martial Alliance fighters roared and continued the pursuit.
“Young Alliance Lord!” Chen Jiayi ran over quickly. Her mood was surely extremely complicated, and she too seemed to have suffered serious injuries; evidently she had met with a great deal of resistance on the way here.
Ouyang Yunfeng grimaced, nearly unable to stand. He glanced around again and saw only his own people, and only then did he relax.
“Young Alliance Lord, you’re hurt! I, I didn’t know Chen Yu would set a trap for you. I...” Chen Jiayi hurriedly explained, after all she had been the one to invite Ouyang Yunfeng here.
“I believe you! I need your medicine to stop the bleeding...” Ouyang Yunfeng said, forcing himself to speak.
Hearing this, Chen Jiayi felt a surge of relief. In the midst of such a drastic upheaval, to still be trusted was something truly heartening. She hurried to support him and said quickly, “I’ll help you. I’ll treat you right away. Don’t worry, I won’t let anything happen to you!”
Su Ye and Jiang Liuying watched from the side, both a little stunned, finding their behavior rather strange.
Su Ye’s gaze slowly moved to Jiang Liuying’s face, as if checking whether she was injured.
“What are you looking at?” Jiang Liuying blinked, a look of distaste appearing on her stunning face. In a bright voice, she said, “You’re not planning to make me help you get treated, are you? Don’t even think about it! I won’t!”
“Your words are heartless. I saved you, and that’s the attitude you give me? If I weren’t thinking of your future daughter, I’d have words with you!” Su Ye said irritably, reaching out to flick Jiang Liuying’s fair forehead.
“What are you doing? Don’t mess up my hair!” Jiang Liuying said angrily, adjusting her hair. Then she added, “Be clear about this: I saved you first. If I hadn’t used my thunder sword to save you, you’d already be dust by now. Hmph.”
“Yes, yes, yes. While they’re all in chaos, let’s hurry and see whether the One Pill Residence has any medicine suitable for your father. Don’t forget the real business,” Su Ye reminded her.
“You think I need you to tell me? I just caught an old man; he said the pill furnace was hiding medicine. Did you find anything after falling into it?” Jiang Liuying asked quickly.
Su Ye knew there had been something odd inside the first furnace, but he had not found any medicine in it.
And now that even the furnace itself had been shattered by him, how could they search it?
“Brother Su Ye, Miss Jiang—our young alliance lord requests your presence,” said two Martial Alliance fighters who had hurried over.
Su Ye was somewhat surprised. Had Ouyang Yunfeng recovered so quickly?
When he and Jiang Liuying arrived together at the pharmacy, they saw Chen Jiayi bandaging Ouyang Yunfeng.
As soon as Ouyang Yunfeng saw Su Ye approach, he forced himself to perk up and said, “Su Ye, are you injured? Let Jiayi take a look at you!”
“Heh, I’m fine.”
“That’s good. I already told Jiayi about your request for medicine. She has something she wants to say to you...” Ouyang Yunfeng said again.
Su Ye was faintly moved. After such a massive upheaval, with Ouyang Yunfeng nearly dead and so many matters waiting for him to handle, he had still not forgotten the purpose for which they had come.
Chen Jiayi lifted her head and looked at Jiang Liuying. Her hands paused in their bandaging as she said, “Miss Jiang, your father actually came to our One Pill Residence two years ago, and more than once. We were unable to treat his illness. No medicine at all had any effect.”
Jiang Liuying’s face instantly changed. Had her father’s final hope been destroyed?
“Miss Jiang, there’s no need to worry either. Your father knew of a way to save himself, but he never used it...”
Jiang Liuying’s body trembled, and she blurted out, “What way?”
