Chapter Ninety-Five: What Kind of Treasure Is This?
The response from the spirit-sounding was proof that another treasure still lay there.
Su Ye remained calm. He could not yet flick out that peculiar sound by means of his fingers, as Ye Lingyun could, so he could only infer an approximate location.
None of the people nearby noticed a thing; they were still lost in awe of Ye Lingyun’s marvelous skill. This spirit-listening art was truly formidable.
Only when Ye Lingyun slowly opened his eyes did everyone wake from their daze and realize that the spirit-listening had ended.
At once, applause and cheers rose in waves, ceaselessly.
“Wonderful! That spirit-listening divine art is truly incredible!”
“Yes, yes! I’d long heard that Ye Lingyun could hear the speech of ghosts and gods, and communicate with all living things. It seems it was all true!”
“Wow, that kind of man is simply too handsome! Handsome and gifted both—if he loved me too, I wouldn’t mind that he has so many women. After all, an outstanding man could hardly be satisfied with only one woman.” Many smitten girls were already blushing.
The entire spirit-listening process had taken an hour, and the various treasures uncovered totaled no fewer than eight. It seemed this little One-Dan Studio truly hid many fine things.
Standing on the high platform, Ye Lingyun wore a supremely confident smile, accepting the admiring gazes and cheers of all. In a deep voice, he said, “Jiayi, the matter you asked me to handle for you, I’ve already handled it. No matter how difficult it is, as long as you say the word, I’ll come help you.”
As soon as he finished speaking, all around him came the envious voices of many young women.
For the sharp and brilliant Ye Lingyun to speak to Chen Jiayi like that in public was tantamount to a declaration of love, and such affection made countless girls’ hearts flutter.
Chen Jiayi looked at the few treasures that had been found and was somewhat dissatisfied. “The treasures our One-Dan Studio ought to have are all here, found by you. But what I wanted was the elixir... I refined that pill for more than a year; it must have succeeded! But now the furnace has shattered, and we still don’t know where the pill went. Can you find it?”
This was also the thing Chen Jiayi cared about most. The reason such a fierce internal conflict had broken out in One-Dan Studio was precisely because the old pill master Chen Yu had wrongly accused her of taking the pill.
If it could be found, it would mean her innocence was restored.
Ye Lingyun laughed heartily, took the little girl Si Si by the hand, and said, “Since it is such a precious elixir, of course it would be stored in a different place. They are all here...”
With that, Ye Lingyun brought Si Si and leaped down from the high platform, rushing toward the place where the furnace had burst apart. Then, with a sudden surge upward, he sprang again to a height of fifty or sixty meters.
Si Si seemed unprepared and let out a shriek of alarm, her pretty face paling.
Everyone’s attention was fixed on the two of them, watching them drift away so gracefully, envy and admiration mingling in their eyes.
When the two reached midair, Ye Lingyun swept out a hand and struck a wave of force. With a boom, an indistinct mist above was blown aside.
Seven pills of different colors were instantly revealed!
Those seven pills were only the size of a thumb, each radiating a different glow, revolving in midair like a bracelet.
“What? The pills were up there?”
“My heavens! Those pills can actually hover in the air. What precious elixirs are these?”
“Seven different pills, hidden up in the sky. Could they be heavenly pills? What effects do they have?”
Even Su Ye was slightly startled at the sight. Who would have thought the pills were hidden in midair? But after thinking it through, he understood.
Most likely, when the furnace lid was opened, the pills shot out together with that rich medicinal fragrance.
And because they were wrapped in a layer of haze, even if someone glanced toward the sky, there would have been no way to notice them.
“Heavenly pills! They’re heavenly pills!” Chen Jiayi cried out in delight.
The alchemists of One-Dan Studio also began discussing in low voices.
“I knew it. How could Master Jiayi possibly steal from her own storehouse?”
“That damn Chen Yu—if he hadn’t died so early, I would have killed that wicked bastard myself! To place such a huge charge on Senior Sister Jiayi’s head.”
“Luckily, Ye Lingyun is here. With a spirit-listener like that, what heavenly treasure could possibly escape his eyes? Tsk tsk, a man like that is destined to be a dragon among men!”
All around, there were cries of amazement.
At that moment, Ye Lingyun was still able to stand in midair, waves of force rolling off his body. With one hand he snatched up one of the pills and, smiling, said to Si Si in his arms, “I startled a beauty, so I’ll make it up to you with a heavenly pill.”
Though Si Si had been frightened, hearing this, she was stunned. This was a heavenly pill from One-Dan Studio; no need to ask how precious it was. Was Ye Lingyun going to give her one?
“Really?” Si Si asked.
“Of course. Open your mouth—”
As he spoke, Ye Lingyun first put the heavenly pill into his own mouth, then lowered his lips to Si Si’s cherry-red lips and directly fed it to her.
Si Si was awash in bashful delight, and the two of them slowly spiraled down from the sky.
Only when they landed on the ground did Si Si come to her senses and, in boundless shyness, hide in Ye Lingyun’s embrace.
Swish, swish, swish!
The seven pills that had been linked together like a bracelet lost one of their number and all tumbled down at once, only to be caught by Ye Lingyun in a single motion.
He released Si Si and walked step by step toward Jiang Liuying.
Jiang Liuying frowned slightly and asked, “What are you doing?”
“Giving you a heavenly pill as a greeting gift!” Ye Lingyun said, casually picking one up and offering it to Jiang Liuying as though he were going to feed it to her by hand.
“There’s always a hidden motive in unearned enthusiasm. Usually theft or worse. And you? You’re both a thief and a scoundrel. Take it away!” Jiang Liuying snorted, crossed her arms, and would not look at him again.
“Hahaha, very well! If you say I’m a thief, then a thief I am—a great thief stealing your heart...”
After speaking, Ye Lingyun gave Su Ye a deliberate, careless glance, then walked over and handed four of the heavenly pills to Chen Jiayi.
“In my spirit-listening practice, the spoils are split in half. There are seven now, and I can’t take advantage of you. I’ll give you four.”
Naturally, Chen Jiayi did not refuse. After taking them, she said, “Thank you, spirit-listener. You’ve worked hard. Drinks and refreshments are prepared inside, please come in! Young Alliance Lord, you too! To all the guests present—everyone has truly worked hard today. Please be seated!”
“Haha, with a beauty inviting me, even dying drunk would be worth it!” Ye Lingyun entered with Si Si beside him.
As he passed the group of starry-eyed girls, they all began shrieking. Two of the smitten girls even burst into tears.
Su Ye and Jiang Liuying were also invited in, but neither of them had any mind for drinking.
They had already obtained the pill prescription from Chen Jiayi and were still thinking of going back to treat Jiang Ziyang, so they soon took their leave.
Ouyang Yunfeng had originally intended to have someone escort them back, but Su Ye declined, since the Jiang family had also sent people.
“Come on, I’m going back to ask my dad exactly what secret he’s hiding from me!” Jiang Liuying was about to stride off.
“Wait, I’m going to look for something!”
Taking advantage of the others being busy drinking and celebrating, Su Ye hurried back to the shattered furnace area to search again.
“Is it your thunder sword? I saw it, but it’s broken,” Jiang Liuying said, having found half a thunder sword in a corner. Though faint arcs of lightning still flickered over it, it no longer had any of its former power.
“Not that... I think I’ve found some treasure. Wait here—”
Recalling the place he had sensed earlier, Su Ye slowly calculated, knowing there must be some treasure there.
At that moment, nearby stood several delicate, pretty girls, all servants brought by Ye Lingyun. Their looks were fairly good, but they could not remain at Ye Lingyun’s side all the time; they could only stand at the entrance, waiting for him to come out.
Judging by their expressions, even standing at the doorway was something they did gladly.
When they saw Su Ye acting that way, they sneered softly among themselves:
“Heh, our master Lingyun is a spirit-listener. Does someone like him think he is one too? Following our master Lingyun’s example and thinking he can find treasure? How laughable.”
“What’s even more disgusting, do you know? Our master Lingyun has the character for ‘night’ in his name, and he does too. He ought to look in a mirror—why does he insist on following our master Lingyun? That character has been ruined by people like him!”
“No matter how disgusting that is, it still can’t compare to some hypocritical little white lotus. Our master gave her a pill, and she actually refused it. Putting on airs like that—obviously just trying to sell herself at a higher price. One look and I could tell exactly what kind of woman she is!”
These words drifted, neither loud nor soft, into Su Ye’s ears. He clenched his fist in secret, then opened his eyes and looked at Jiang Liuying, only to see that she was still searching for things with a face full of innocence and had heard nothing.
He thought about it and let it go. Finding the treasure was what mattered, and if Jiang Liuying heard such insults, who knew what kind of scene would erupt.
“Follow me—”
After saying that in a low voice, Su Ye shot swiftly toward another spot. Jiang Liuying, calling after him, “Where are you going?” followed along as well.
At last, Su Ye discovered a peculiar sound near a shattered stone lion.
After searching for a while, he suddenly realized that one of the stone lion’s eyes was a different color.
He touched it lightly, and at once his whole body trembled.
Boom—
A roar went off in his mind, and a terrifying scene appeared there. He saw the sea at night, lightning and thunder across the heavens, monstrous waves surging over the surface, and an ancient ship actually sailing through the storm.
The ship seemed on the verge of being smashed over by the giant waves. Then, as though from the perspective of one of the eyes, the view suddenly turned forward and saw an island.
And then the vision vanished.
Su Ye trembled again, and a cold sensation surged from the eye, making him shiver.
This was definitely a treasure!
“Are you all right? What is that thing? The way you look, do you need to be taken for a rabies shot?” Jiang Liuying had also noticed something unusual and asked with a disgusted expression.
“Take your nonsense elsewhere! Your family needs the rabies shot!”
Su Ye no longer had the time to spar with her. He immediately dug out the stone lion’s eye and, not bothering to look at it, shoved it straight into his pocket.
Jiang Liuying did not care. Such daily bickering was already familiar. But seeing the eyeball, she still reached out to touch it.
“Don’t touch it, we’ll talk when we get back!”
Su Ye only knew that the eyeball was unusual, but as for what treasure it truly was, he himself had no idea.
“Look at you, so stingy. If it’s something good, I won’t take all of it. Your mother-in-law only wants to keep it for you for a bit... Hey, hey, why are you running? It really is some kind of treasure, isn’t it? Su Ye, have you ever considered giving my unborn daughter some betrothal gifts or something? Hey... wait, wait for me.”
At that moment...
Ye Lingyun, who had one arm around Si Si while drinking, suddenly stiffened. The wine cup in his hand tipped, spilling wine everywhere.
Chen Jiayi and Ouyang Yunfeng beside him both looked at him in confusion. Ye Lingyun’s expression did not seem right—had something happened?
“Lingyun, what’s wrong? Why has your face changed like that?”
“Heh... nothing. It’s just that some little thief has taken something that belongs to me. It’s nothing.”
