Chapter 66: The Heavenly Alliance Banquet
Dundee, his face full of panic, rushed to Dog’s side and shouted anxiously, “Dog, for God’s sake, get up! Weren’t you just bragging about how tough you were? How many people have you killed in Africa? Get up, now!”
Chen Erpao glanced at him indifferently, then suddenly leaped into the air and delivered a savage kick. The scream that followed echoed across the entire floor, like a pig being slaughtered, and a deep, vivid footprint was stamped onto Dundee’s handsome face.
Clutching his cheek in pain, Dundee pointed at Chen Erpao and screamed, “How dare you hit me! Do you know who I am? My father is one of Hong Kong’s top ten tycoons, the chairman of Chang’an Industries. You’ll pay for what you did today!”
“Oh?” Chen Erpao nodded, then delivered another kick before replying coolly, “For your father’s sake, here’s an extra kick. That should be enough, right?”
Holding both swollen cheeks, his face now resembling a pig’s head, Dundee watched Chen Erpao and his companions walk away, his eyes burning with venomous hatred.
A little while later, at the entrance of the bar, Zhang Xiaoyu, her face filled with gratitude, said apologetically, “I’m so sorry for involving you in this, and even putting you in danger.”
Chen Erpao smiled calmly. “It’s nothing, just returning the favor from last time. Besides, Xuemei is your devoted fan—doing it for her was the least I could do.”
Zhang Xiaoyu looked at Wang Xuemei, then suddenly grabbed her hands, beaming brightly. “Thank you. Maybe we can become good friends.”
Wang Xuemei grew instantly excited, hurriedly gave her phone number, and hugged her tightly for quite a while before letting go, leaving Chen Erpao quietly grumbling to himself—wasn’t I the one who did all the work? Not even a hug for me.
Before Zhang Xiaoyu left, she asked her assistant to take out two invitations and handed them to Wang Xuemei. It was for a party organized by her agency, and she wanted both Wang Xuemei and Chen Erpao to attend.
That evening, the three of them returned home in high spirits. Despite the earlier incident, their joy was undiminished.
But that night, Wang Xuemei mercilessly sent Chen Erpao back to his own room—the first time they’d slept apart since becoming intimate.
The next morning, Chen Erpao tied on an apron and prepared a sumptuous breakfast. He immediately went to wake Wang Xuemei and Grandma. Wang Xuemei rewarded him with a fragrant kiss, and Grandma praised him as well, filling him with pride. More and more, he felt he had the makings of a fine man.
Originally, he’d planned to take them both for a stroll in the park that morning, but then Huang Mao called with urgent business, so he had to leave them.
At Moon Lake Park, Wang Xuemei walked arm in arm with Grandma, smiling happily.
Grandma glanced at her and suddenly said, “Xuemei, Erpao is a good man, but you should prepare yourself. Think it through carefully.”
Wang Xuemei, puzzled, stopped in her tracks. “Why? Didn’t you say you thought he was great?”
Grandma chuckled softly. “I believe he’ll achieve great things—he’s no ordinary man. In the future, he’ll have many women around him. He’s destined not to belong to you alone.”
“I don’t believe it,” Wang Xuemei said with a mischievous smile. “As long as he keeps me in his heart, that’s enough. And even if he has other women, I’ll still be the main one. Hee-hee.”
Grandma shook her head, smiling. “You’ll understand one day. Perhaps he’s someone I can entrust with my secret, too.”
When Chen Erpao arrived at the Iron Guard training ground, Huang Mao was anxiously waiting, holding a red invitation. Seeing Chen Erpao, he hurried over.
“Brother Pao, take a look at this.”
Chen Erpao took the invitation. The two bold characters, “Heavenly Alliance,” made him pause. Could it be that the Heavenly Alliance was already planning to come after them?
After a moment, he closed the invitation, his face showing unprecedented seriousness. This was an invitation from the Heavenly Alliance for a banquet the next night—not only for him, but also for many of Hong Kong’s small but influential gangs. It was clearly a conference, though the agenda wasn’t stated outright. Still, it wasn’t hard to guess.
“Brother Pao, should we go? I doubt it’ll be as simple as just a meeting or a meal,” Huang Mao asked.
Chen Erpao smiled at him. “You’re finally learning to think. Let’s go and see who else shows up, then decide what to do.”
At the same time, similar scenes played out among many of Hong Kong’s small but powerful groups. Some prepared to attend directly, some were hesitant—afraid of offending bigger fish—so decided not to go, and others, like Chen Erpao, chose to wait and see.
The next evening, Chen Erpao, Liu Huagang, and two Iron Guards rode in a Mercedes and parked not far from a lavish restaurant near the Heavenly Alliance’s headquarters in Yuen Long. Huang Mao was nearby with thirty special operations members, while Wang Xing stayed back in Lingnan in case of emergencies.
Sitting in the car, Chen Erpao held a dossier—information and photos of various Hong Kong gangs, painstakingly compiled by Huang Mao.
“Brother Pao, look, that seems to be Wong Lai, boss of Kowloon Tongren Society,” Liu Huagang suddenly said.
Chen Erpao looked up and saw three Audis pull up in front of the restaurant. From the middle car, a man in his forties, dressed in a tan leather jacket, got out—exactly the face from the dossier, identified as the Tongren Society’s boss, Wong Lai.
“That’s him, no doubt. Rumor has it he’s planning to pledge allegiance to the Heavenly Alliance. Looks like the stories were true, or he wouldn’t be the first to arrive,” Chen Erpao said.
Wong Lai was notorious for selling fake medicine. Most pharmacies in Kowloon were under his control, and almost all their stock came from him. While his men weren’t particularly tough, he commanded over a hundred people.
One by one, more than twenty gang leaders arrived. The restaurant’s parking lot was packed, with luxury cars lining the street. If not for the Mercedes gifted by Zeng Fan, Chen Erpao’s ride would have looked the shabbiest of all.
Just then, five luxury sedans pulled up at the entrance. Dozens of men stepped out together—Tian Yi among them, accompanying a man in his fifties. Chen Erpao quickly flipped through the dossier to find a photo matching the man’s face. Beside it, the note read: Camel, boss of Hongxing Society’s Tuen Mun branch.
