Chapter 57: What Stroke of Luck Has Fan City Stumbled Upon?
Deng Ping sat in front of the computer, exclaiming, “Damn! Incredible!”
Zhang Fan, agitated, said, “I’m leaving now.”
He greeted Deng Ping and, as soon as he got out of the car, saw three imposing men approaching.
“Director Wen, Captain Jiang, Captain Long.” Zhang Fan felt inexplicably uneasy, his heart pounding wildly.
Captain Long’s expression was grim; he cast a cold glance at Zhang Fan and responded with a frosty grunt.
Hearing the commotion outside, Deng Ping emerged from the car and saw the three prominent figures, hurrying over to greet them.
“Director Wen, what brings you here?”
Director Wen narrowed his eyes, “I heard Li Ye brought in an outsider.”
Deng Ping adjusted his black-rimmed glasses, oblivious to Captain Long’s dark mood, and smiled, “You even know about that?”
Zhang Fan glanced at Captain Long, steeling himself before speaking nervously, “Captain Long, about what I mentioned earlier…”
Captain Long turned his gaze to Zhang Fan, waiting for him to continue.
Suddenly, the sound of a vibrating phone broke the moment. Captain Jiang smiled apologetically, “Excuse me, I need to take a call.”
He pulled out his phone and, seeing the caller ID, realized it was Li Ye.
Director Wen glanced over, “Put it on speaker.”
Understanding, Captain Jiang answered, and Li Ye’s voice filled the air.
“Captain Jiang, we’ve got the suspect. I’ll send you the location of the hidden bomb.”
All five were stunned—the suspect had already been caught!
Especially Captain Long, who knew very well Li Ye’s capabilities. How little time had passed, and not only was the suspect apprehended, but the location had been extracted as well.
“Good. Where are you now? I’ll send someone over,” Captain Jiang asked quickly.
Deng Ping interjected, “Captain Jiang, I know—it’s 235 Donghua Street.”
Captain Jiang paused briefly, then said, “We’ll be there soon.”
Li Ye replied with an affirmative and hung up.
Moments later, Captain Jiang received a message listing other bomb locations.
The four others crowded around; Deng Ping counted, “There are fifteen!”
Captain Jiang’s expression grew grave. “Yes, the three we found match the locations listed.”
That meant this information was highly reliable!
Captain Jiang immediately dispatched the details to various teams to begin searching.
Director Wen breathed a sigh of relief; half the anxiety weighing on his heart was lifted.
Captain Long looked at Zhang Fan, face stern, and asked, “What’s really going on?”
Captain Jiang patted Captain Long’s shoulder, “Don’t be so harsh. Deng Ping, how did you find the suspect’s address?”
Deng Ping was startled, quickly shaking his head, “It wasn’t me. Miss Shen discovered it.”
He dared not claim the credit.
Captain Jiang was surprised, throwing a peculiar look at Director Wen and Captain Long. Weren’t they just saying on the way over that Miss Shen wasn’t up to the task?
“Master, I… I don’t know. Miss Shen really knows computers—and she’s amazing,” Zhang Fan stammered, even changing his address to Miss Shen.
During the half hour since Li Ye left, Deng Ping had been singing Miss Shen’s praises non-stop.
Director Wen glanced at Captain Long, puzzled, “Didn’t you say she was a delinquent at school?”
“Director Wen! When did I ever say that?” Captain Long stepped back, speaking seriously.
He’d only mentioned that Shen Qing got into fights and skipped class; he hadn’t called her a delinquent.
Just then, Captain Jiang’s phone rang again. He looked down—another call from Li Ye. He hurriedly answered.
“Li Ye, what’s the matter?”
Captain Long’s heart tightened. Was Li Ye’s small frame about to let the suspect slip away?
“Captain Jiang, this case is connected to the F Continent terrorist group. Please contact Fengdu immediately—the suspect’s three accomplices are already on their way there.”
Director Wen’s legs nearly buckled—another international case?
What luck had Fan City stumbled upon this year?
“Captain Jiang, Miss Shen has already uncovered the information on the other three suspects. I’ll send it to you shortly.”
“Understood.”
Captain Jiang set down his phone and swept his gaze over the group, speaking slowly, “Captain Long, the information you found on Miss Shen—is it accurate?”
Captain Long shook his head stiffly, throat tight. “I don’t know.”
Director Wen coughed lightly, “I’ll contact Fengdu.”
Zhang Fan looked at Captain Long, “Master, I’ll go defuse the bombs.”
“I’ll go meet Li Ye,” Captain Jiang said, preparing to leave, with Captain Long following.
“I’ll go as well.”
