Chapter 63: Moved In
Gu Ting picked up her foot with one hand, but in the next instant, she broke free. Shen Qing quickly slipped on her slippers and muttered under her breath, "Pervert."
Gu Ting stood up, letting out a low chuckle that made his shoulders tremble, and then looked at her with an innocent expression. "I haven't eaten yet," he said.
"There are leftovers in the kitchen. Heat them yourself," Shen Qing replied coolly, casting him a casual glance before settling onto the sofa to play a game.
"Oh." Gu Ting craned his neck to see her phone; she was playing a solitary hopscotch game.
Wearing slippers that didn't fit, he shuffled into the kitchen. Inside the fridge were some leftover sweet and sour crispy pork and half a crucian carp.
Shen Qing didn't seem like the type who cooked.
"Did someone come over today?" Gu Ting carried out the dishes and found a small bowl of leftover rice.
"Yes," came the indifferent reply from the other side.
Gu Ting awkwardly turned on the gas valve, his words tinged with jealousy. "I called you yesterday, and a man answered."
Shen Qing paused, and the screen flashed "OVER!"
"What are you trying to say?" Shen Qing set her phone down and turned to look at him.
"You're still young. You should focus on your studies."
No dating allowed.
Shen Qing looked at him with amusement and leaned back on the sofa again. "Nie Huan made the food."
"Oh." Gu Ting's gaze drifted to the two pairs of worn slippers by the door.
"Nie Yu was here too," Shen Qing explained, following his gaze.
"Oh." Gu Ting felt much better and turned to heat the food.
After a while, he brought the dishes to the table. "Come eat something?"
"Mm." Shen Qing put down her phone and walked barefoot to the table, instantly feeling Gu Ting's gaze upon her.
"Drama queen," she muttered, slipping on her slippers and shuffling over to the table.
Gu Ting handed her a pair of chopsticks, which she took naturally, picking up a piece of sweet and sour crispy pork and popping it into her mouth.
After chewing a couple of times, her brows furrowed slightly, and she commented coldly, "A bit burnt."
"Mm, spit it out, don't eat it," Gu Ting reached his hand to her lips.
Shen Qing glanced down at his hand, her eyes faintly mocking.
"I'll eat it anyway," she leaned back, putting more distance between them.
Gu Ting smiled at her. "Mm, thanks for enduring, little one."
*
After washing the dishes, Gu Ting emerged from the kitchen.
Shen Qing, sitting on the sofa, glanced at him sideways. This man's looks were truly a curse.
"You think I'm good-looking, don't you?" Gu Ting's eyes sparkled with a smile, his gaze full of fondness.
"Delusional," Shen Qing turned her face away.
Gu Ting sat beside her and took out his phone, his tone slightly pleading. "Hey, little one, play a game with me?"
Shen Qing raised her brows and replied coolly, "You're too bad. Not playing with you."
Gu Ting: ...
He deliberately threw the game, expecting Shen Qing to save him. Nothing wrong with that.
"Ahem, then I'll practice more and play together next time."
"Mm, pick any room you like."
"You're not making me sleep on the sofa anymore?" Gu Ting's face broke into a gentle smile, his gaze drifting to the master bedroom.
Shen Qing narrowed her eyes, a hint of ferocity in her look. "Then it's the sofa."
With that, she went into her own room.
Gu Ting's lips curled up, and he straightened, surveying the apartment before choosing a guest room next to the master bedroom.
A call came from Dongfang Cheng, and Gu Ting quickly answered.
"Ting, the middleman's info has been wiped. We can't find him now."
Gu Ting's eyes grew serious as he leaned against the wall. "Li Dog-Egg's handiwork?"
"Yeah, the ID we found is his. Nothing else, and Wu Xie didn't take the last anonymous job either. Want us to have someone in S Province investigate?"
"No need. Leave it for now. Check on Mrs. Xia, she's been closest to Li Dog-Egg lately."
"Got it."
**
When Shen Qing pushed open her door, Gu Ting had already bought breakfast.
"You're up early today," Shen Qing said, picking up a bun and taking a bite. Beef filling, thin skin, lots of meat.
"Guaranteed Satisfaction" was a famous shop; there was only one in Fangcheng, located in Xingchen Plaza.
Gu Ting paused for a second, then smiled and took a red bean bun. "Yeah, got up pretty early."
"Exams are coming up once I go back to school. Maybe you should help me review these days?"
"Mm, chicken stewed with mushrooms," Shen Qing replied.
Gu Ting was taken aback, then laughed, gently resting his right hand on her shoulder for a moment before letting go.
"You're such a clever little fox!" The fondness in his voice was unmistakable.
Shen Qing glanced at him sideways. "Only just noticed?"
