Chapter 127: I Don’t Want to Watch Her Perform at All
As December arrived, the temperature plummeted, and everyone gradually started wearing down jackets.
“Hurry up, hurry up! The college entrance exam is just a few months away! Stop dawdling!”
“Hey, can you walk any faster? By the time you’moving so slowly, Lin Ruiyang has already finished writing an English essay!”
“I’m talking to you! Eating, eating, eating! The morning study bell has been ringing for ages and you’re still eating!”
“Hey, I’m saying this to you! How can you be late even though you live in the dorm? The dorm is just a few steps from the classroom. And you come in so late without even having breakfast.”
“What are you looking at? Get inside and study!”
Early in the morning, Xie Mingming was standing at the classroom door, catching students. After just a few minutes, he was already parched from all the talking.
“My goodness! These kids are like death itself.” Xie Mingming took down his thermos from the window; inside floated a few wolfberries and red dates.
Just as he took a sip, his sixth sense, honed by years as a homeroom teacher, told him a student was quietly passing behind him.
“Coming in so late and still trying to hide...” Xie Mingming twisted the cap shut and began to scold, but when he spun around suddenly, the words caught in his throat.
A girl wore a very thin black down jacket, her beautiful face flushed, though it was hard to tell if it was from good health or the cold.
“Shen... Shen Qing?” Xie Mingming was a bit stunned. Why was this school queen here so early today?
“Yeah.”
“You’re early today, huh, Ming—” Before Xie Mingming could say “keep it up tomorrow,” Shen Qing interrupted.
“Just an occasional early riser.”
Xie Mingming’s mouth twitched slightly; she really wasn’t giving him any face.
“All right, you can go in and study.” Xie Mingming waved his hand.
“Okay.” Shen Qing went in through the back door.
Xie Mingming glanced over, then suddenly turned and caught a student trying to sneak in through the front door. He launched into a scolding:
“What time is it? You were late yesterday too! And I can still smell the ‘Bao Ni Man Yi’ beef bun on you?”
The student froze. How did the old Xie detect that smell? Was he part dog?
“Hmph! Running all the way to Star Plaza to buy breakfast and skipping morning study!”
“Teacher, I’m sorry...”
**
Inside the classroom, Chu Yu handed a fully charged hot water bag to Nie Huan.
Shen Qing rested her head on the desk, glancing faintly before turning away.
“Qing Jie?” Chu Yu tapped Shen Qing’s desk.
“What?” Shen Qing lifted her eyelids to look at him, her tone so cold it made Chu Yu shiver.
“Um... do you want this?” Chu Yu offered an electric heating bag, bright red with large yellow and purple flowers.
Shen Qing’s brow twitched as she glanced at the one in Nie Huan’s hands—a fluffy gray rabbit.
“No.” Shen Qing replied with clear disdain, then lowered her head to sleep.
“Here, take the rabbit one.” Nie Huan handed over her hot water bag, knowing Shen Qing had rabbit slippers at home and probably liked rabbits more.
Chu Yu was stunned, silently repeating to himself: Qing Jie isn’t cold, Qing Jie isn’t cold...
**
Shen Qing cast a quick glance, “No.”
Chu Yu breathed a sigh of relief.
“I’m not going to see that movie. No matter how good it is, I just don’t want to watch.” Yao Panpan was standing by the back door, talking to a girl.
“Fine, fine, if you’re not going, I’ll find someone else to go with me.” The girl said and left.
Chu Yu was curious. Yao Panpan was usually the one most interested in entertainment gossip; whenever she had free time, she was either glued to her phone scrolling Weibo or watching various variety shows and dramas.
“Yao Panpan, you’re really not going to see the movie? That’s unheard of.” Chu Yu teased.
Yao Panpan curled her lips. “Do you know who’s starring in it?”
“Hm?”
“It’s a movie starring Yu Min’er. I don’t want to watch it at all.”
She had never liked Min’er, always felt she was fake, and thought her singing wasn’t as good as online praise suggested.
Moreover, after Shen Qing’s recent scandal, the Yu family made no statement and even piled on when the critics were at their worst. With such a family that didn’t distinguish right from wrong, her impression of Min’er had worsened.
Although Yu Min’er never made any public remarks, the entertainment industry was murky; who knew if she had stirred the pot behind the scenes.
