Champion the cause of justice
When Mu Qingxi awoke from her sleep, it was already eight o’clock in the evening. She had no appetite, so the meal her mother prepared was left untouched. Mu Qingxi told her mother to go home and rest, but her mother refused and stayed by her side. Shifting over on the bed, Mu Qingxi pulled her mother down to lie with her.
It was a strange feeling; for several years, this was the first time they had been so close. Unconsciously, their relationship had softened, and sometimes they even shared a few jokes, leaving Mu Qingxi inexplicably happy. In truth, she longed for her mother’s affection, just like anyone else.
At that moment, Shen Yali’s heart was a tangled mess as she watched her daughter, overwhelmed by emotion. Neither of them slept a wink all night.
In the days following her awakening, Qin Yu, Xiao Gang, and Shen Bin came to check in every day. Yet their visits had a purpose that left Mu Qingxi wanting to cry—who wants to study while recovering in a hospital? Certainly not Mu Qingxi. She finally had a break from books, but they were full of enthusiasm.
While the four of them were chatting, Wu Huan, Yellow-haired Chickenhead, and several unfamiliar faces barged in, “visiting” her in a manner more brash than kind. Qin Yu, Xiao Gang, and Shen Bin eyed the newcomers with grim expressions; their attitude made it clear they were here to stir trouble.
“Don’t worry,” Mu Qingxi reassured her three friends, then turned to the intruders, raising her eyebrows in mockery. “Well, what’s the meaning of this? Are you here to ‘visit’ me, or to defend someone’s honor?”
Wu Huan, standing at the front, said angrily, “Mu Qingxi, don’t think you can act arrogant just because Bai Fanhao and Xi Haifei like you. You hit Xi Yan and put her in the hospital. That’s a fact. Do you still want to deny it?”
She laughed softly. “I won’t deny it. But Wu Huan, you’re wrong about one thing. My arrogance isn’t given to me by Bai Fanhao or Xi Haifei. I, Mu Jingqi, have the strength myself.”
At this point, Chickenhead, whom she’d met before, sneered. “Mu Jingqi, what strength do you have? Don’t think we don’t know.”
“Chickenhead, I’m sure you really don’t know. Go ask your Bai Fanhao, and get your facts straight before you come defend someone. Or ask Feng Han, if you prefer,” she added as they fell silent.
They were stunned for a moment, then left without another word. Just like that, the matter was settled, and no one came to cause trouble again.
Under pressure from Qin Yu, Xiao Gang, and Shen Bin, Mu Qingxi finally gave a summary: “I am the so-called legendary lunatic you’ve heard about.”
The three stared at her in disbelief, but ultimately, faced with her indifference and the fearless attitude she had just shown, they chose to believe her.
After another checkup, the attending physician told her she was recovering well; as long as she took care and avoided alcohol, she would be fine.
And so, after seven days, she was discharged from the hospital.
While packing up in the ward, she glanced toward the door and spotted a figure. The moment she looked, the figure slipped away. She quickly put down her things and said to her mother, “Mom, finish packing and head home. I need to visit a patient—a classmate of mine is hospitalized.” Without waiting for her mother’s reply, she hurried out.
In the hospital’s back garden, Mu Qingxi found him. She was certain Feng Han knew she was following, as he slowed his pace and glanced back.
“You didn’t need to chase after me,” Feng Han said.
She went straight to the point. “Did Xi Yan end up in the hospital because of me?”
Feng Han paused. “You already know? No, it wasn’t.”
“Then why are you taking care of her?” She stared at Feng Han. He remained silent, so she pressed on, “Feng Han, you know I’m not someone who insists on things, but this time, I need your answer. Tell me!” Her tone brooked no argument.
“Mu Mu, it really wasn’t because of you.”
“Feng Han, you know perfectly well that’s not what I’m asking. Don’t dodge the question, okay?” The conflict in Feng Han’s heart was evident from the furrow of his brow.
The next moment, he composed himself, as if making a momentous decision. “Alright, I’ll tell you.”
He sat down on the bench nearby and began to speak.
(Because of an accident, things got a bit complicated, so there’s a bit more rambling. Hope everyone continues to support Mu Mu—thank you all. Let’s skip the rest and move to the next chapter.)
