Chapter 109: Refusal to Admit Fault
Watching as the homeroom teacher finally disappeared, Mu Qingxi looked at Qin Yu with an utterly speechless expression.
Xi Haifei was equally exasperated as he glanced at Qin Yu, then said, “Enough staring. Honestly, you two have defeated me. Can we please not be so honest all the time? Come on, let’s go have a chat.”
Qin Yu, abandoning her earlier pitiful act, now wore a look of deep regret, crying out in mock agony, “Oh woe is me! Just finish me off!”
“I’d rather not go to jail for your sake,” Mu Qingxi replied.
Qin Yu immediately scampered up to Mu Qingxi, who was walking ahead, and grinned, “Come on, Mu Mu, how could I have known Confucius would be so thin-skinned? I just wanted to joke around, how was I supposed to know he’d lose his temper? If I’d known, I wouldn’t have joked at all. Regret is eating me alive!”
Mu Qingxi stared at Qin Yu, speechless—she really wanted to kick her at least twice. She fixed her gaze on Qin Yu.
Qin Yu instantly hopped back a step, folding her arms as if terrified. “Mu Mu, what are you planning?”
Mu Qingxi looked at her, exasperated. Was this really necessary? All she wanted was to kick her twice, and here she was, hugging herself as if afraid of being taken advantage of.
With a sarcastic tone, Mu Qingxi said, “Oh, darling, I wouldn’t do anything to you. I’m the one who should be worried about getting taken advantage of!”
Then Mu Qingxi quickly slipped into the office ahead. Qin Yu, putting on another wounded look, called out, “Mu Mu, can’t you stop despising me? I am, after all, a rare beauty!”
My goodness, the moment Mu Qingxi stepped into the office and heard that, she felt a chill run down her spine. Goosebumps erupted all over her.
Oh, spare me! Mu Qingxi rubbed her arms, then her face, and only when she felt normal again did she approach her homeroom teacher, Confucius.
In fact, the conversation between Mu Qingxi and Qin Yu had been heard loud and clear by Confucius and Xi Haifei, who were already in the office.
Confucius’s face twitched uncontrollably, while Xi Haifei was struggling not to burst out laughing. Who would have thought these two were such clowns? Clearly aware the homeroom teacher could hear them, yet still deliberately speaking so loudly.
The truth was, Mu Qingxi and Qin Yu’s intentions were simple and pure. They just wanted to diffuse his anger in this way, hoping it would dissipate and vanish, so things would go easier for them.
To listen to a lecture from Confucius was a sure way to injure their ears, so to minimize the pain, they had to take an unconventional route.
Never bow your head and admit fault!
Mu Qingxi and Qin Yu stood quietly in front of the desk, eyes fixed on the floor, truly embodying the saying:
—Oblivious to the world outside the window, their hearts focused only on the ground beneath their feet!
What do you call this? This is the defeated soldier’s policy—seemingly bowing their heads in remorse, but in truth, their minds are elsewhere. What do you call that?
Classic: “In the camp of Cao, but the heart in Han.”
But, sadly, all of Confucius’s heartfelt admonitions were wasted. Mu Qingxi listened to him with growing frustration—why was it always the same few phrases? Couldn’t he change it up a bit?
“Mu Qingxi, if you keep this up, you won’t even get into an ordinary school…”
“You’re already repeating your senior year, all of you are in your fourth year of high school, yet you still don’t study hard. When will you ever start taking your studies seriously?”
“Last time I called you all in to talk about your studies, you all promised you’d work hard…”
Confucius hadn’t even finished when Qin Yu interjected, “Yes.”
Though it was more like a murmur, in the spacious office it was perfectly clear. Confucius looked down at Qin Yu, who was nodding with her head lowered, nodded back, and said approvingly, “Good, as long as you know.”
Confucius continued, “At our last class meeting, I said that these days it’s easy to get into college, there are all kinds of colleges, but if you’re going, you must get into a good one…”
“Yes,” Qin Yu nodded and replied at just the right moment.
