“Hit him! Get up and fight!”

“Quickly! Look, your forehead is split open!”

“Hmph. You brat. Looking down on people always comes at a price.” The fat man stared at the person lying on the ground and said.

The man on the ground slowly turned over. Mu Qingyang, battered beyond recognition, looked utterly transformed. His eyes were blackened, blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, and half of his face was swollen.

By the time Mu Qingxi squeezed through the crowd, this was what she saw: Mu Qingyang, looking neither human nor ghostly, struggling desperately to rise.

Not a single person around made a sound. They all stood in silence, watching as Mu Qingyang tried to drag himself up.

But his injuries were too severe, and he had no strength left. He swayed unsteadily and could not even keep himself on his feet.

Just as Mu Qingyang managed to stand, he caught sight of Mu Qingxi standing in front of him. His lips curved faintly, but the movement tugged at his wounds, and he frowned slightly. Though weak and unsteady, he still smiled and said, “Sister, I’m sorry.”

The people around him had no idea why this young man had suddenly apologized, and they looked at Mu Qingyang in confusion. Had he finally been beaten too long to endure it any longer, so he lowered his head and admitted fault, saying he was sorry?

Yet no one noticed Mu Qingxi, who had already stepped into the inner circle.

The others did not understand why Mu Qingyang had apologized and assumed he was apologizing to the alluring woman from earlier. Since he had called her by the wrong title before, he was now correcting himself and calling her sister; even the woman herself thought the apology was meant for her.

But only Mu Qingxi knew that Mu Qingyang had just been apologizing to her.

He was sorry for not listening to her, for not practicing his martial arts properly, for not staying obediently at home, but instead running out and following some unfamiliar Chen Yadong out to play.

Just as the woman smiled smugly, Mu Qingyang swayed and collapsed.

At that moment, Mu Qingxi rushed forward, grabbed her brother, and said, “Little brother, how are you? Hold on. I’ll take you to the hospital right now.”

When the crowd heard this, they all wondered: was she his sister? Had the sister he called earlier been her?

The alluring woman, standing beside Mu Qingxi in fifteen-centimeter heels, was still as tall as Mu Qingxi despite them.

She looked down at Mu Qingxi with disdain. “Oh, so you’re his sister. Since your brother already apologized to me, I’m not a petty person, so I won’t hold it against him. Take him and get lost.”

Mu Qingxi understood then. Her brother had offended this woman, which was why he had been beaten so badly.

But she still refused to believe it. She refused to believe that her brother would offend anyone for no reason, much less a woman.

Suddenly, she noticed something: where was Chen Yadong, the one who had called her brother out to play? Why wasn’t he here? Why was her brother alone?

She swept her gaze across the crowd and found no sign of Chen Yadong.

Mu Qingxi was furious. She fixed the woman with a hard, unblinking stare and asked in an icy voice, “You were the one who beat my brother?”

The woman lifted her hand and admired her own bright red nails, then sneered, “Yes, and what of it? Are you going to hit me back?”

In the blink of an eye, Mu Qingxi raised her hand and slapped that hateful face with all her strength.

The crowd only saw the glamorous woman’s head snap to the right, her face hidden beneath a curtain of heavy curls.

“Ah!”

A piercing scream split the air. The men who had beaten Mu Qingyang earlier moved in again and surrounded Mu Qingxi and Mu Qingyang. The woman clutched her face with her left hand and pointed at Mu Qingxi with her right, snarling, “Go on. Beat them to death!”
