Chapter 144: The Test Results

Director Song closed the file after finishing it, tossed it onto the desk, and looked at the interrogator, saying, "In that case, let’s go."

"Director, go where?" the man asked, surprised and silently wondering if he was just going to join in on the excitement.

Director Song had already risen and was walking toward the door. Hearing the question, he paused and looked back at him. "Do you take me for someone heading to the restroom?"

The interrogator gave a sheepish laugh and said, "No, no, of course not. You wouldn’t call me for that anyway, right? Heh."

Director Song chuckled as well. "Enough with the chatter. Let’s get moving; if we’re any later, they’ll have already adjourned."

In a private room at a high-end restaurant, the space was filled—or rather, occupied by eight people.

Mu Yuncheng, Zuo Jun, and Xi Haifei were present, along with five strangers.

There was a couple, claiming to be Xi Haifei’s parents, sitting to his right, and an older-looking village woman who was Wang Feiyan’s mother.

Two lawyers were also in attendance—one hired by Xi Haifei’s parents and the other brought by Zuo Jun—seated beside Xi Haifei’s father and Zuo Jun, respectively.

"Mr. Xi, we have reached this point in our discussion, and I believe you are well aware that your daughter harmed my cousin," Zuo Jun said, his face expressionless.

"Mr. Zuo, I understand you wish to seek justice for your cousin, but how can you prove that Wang Feiyan is my daughter? Are you relying solely on your own unsupported claims?" the lawyer for Xi Haifei’s father retorted sternly.

Zuo Jun suddenly offered an inscrutable smile and said to his own lawyer, "Attorney Wang, please provide them with the evidence."

"Yes, Mr. Zuo." Attorney Wang took a DNA test report from his briefcase and handed it to Xi Haifei’s father.

"A DNA test report?" Xi Haifei’s father said with a sneer. "I’m afraid, Mr. Zuo, that I never underwent a DNA test with this girl named Wang Feiyan."

Just as the lawyer was about to speak, Zuo Jun held up a hand, looking calmly at Xi Haifei.

Xi Haifei offered a bitter smile and said, "Father, it was I who conducted the DNA test with Wang Feiyan. I am aware of the results."

Xi Haifei’s father’s face turned livid, and he glared fiercely at his son. "Xi Haifei, what exactly are you trying to do?"

"Mr. Xi, please, don’t get angry. That girl was obsessed with your son; if not for that obsession, my daughter would not have been disfigured by her," Mu Yuncheng said steadily, though a trace of anger colored his tone.

"That is not my daughter," Xi Haifei’s father insisted.

Xi Haifei immediately countered, "Then whose son am I?"

The question was sharp. Indeed, if Wang Feiyan was not his daughter, but the DNA report showed that she and Xi Haifei were siblings, then exactly whose son was he?

"Haifei, don't be ridiculous!" Xi Haifei’s mother said coldly.

Wang Feiyan’s mother remained seated with her head bowed, motionless, save for the soft weeping that escaped her—whether from sorrow or something else, it was unclear.

"Then Mother, you tell me: whose son am I, really? Was I found, or was the daughter abandoned by you?"

"Enough! Stop talking, both of you. I’ll tell you," Xi Haifei’s mother said, suddenly standing up.

*Knock, knock!*

Zuo Jun looked toward the door. "Who is it?"

"Song Kai," replied Director Song from outside.

Zuo Jun rose to open the door and invited Director Song in. He knew that Song Kai must have discovered something to have come here, but he did not mind; after all, his own presence here was for the sake of Mu Qingxi.
