So silly.
Returning to the cafeteria, they went straight to the spot they had just passed and sat down. Mu Qingxi spoke up, “Let’s not waste time—tell me, what do you two think about that University of Media?”
“What else? Of course I’m going. If I didn’t, I’d regret it,” Qin Yu replied lazily.
Mu Qingxi acknowledged this with a sound, then turned to Guo Chen. “Guo Chen, what about you?”
Guo Chen was silent for a few seconds before he finally said, “Heh, we’ll see when the time comes. It’s not really the path I want to take.”
After hearing that, Mu Qingxi instinctively looked at Qin Yu. She couldn’t see any particular expression on Qin Yu’s face, but she did notice a momentary flicker in her eyes.
Mu Qingxi nodded and pretended to consider, and after a long pause, she said, “I don’t really want to go down this path either, but suddenly, I wonder—maybe I should go to the University of Media, and then I wouldn’t have to worry about the future.”
She added, “But I don’t like this field. Oh well, I’ll just say yes for now and see what happens later!”
It wasn’t that she was indecisive—it was just that, at this moment, she truly didn’t know what she wanted. Should she follow her old plans for a stable life, or take the road to fame? What should she do?
After class, everyone rushed to pack up and go home. Mu Qingxi sat motionless at her desk, doodling with her old pencil.
Bai Fanhao, who was about to head home, glanced into the empty classroom and saw her sitting alone.
He watched her as she drew, a bit speechless. Did she not notice the classroom was empty? Couldn’t she draw at home? He called out, “Mu Mu, why aren’t you going home yet?”
Mu Qingxi’s hand froze for a moment. She wondered why he hadn’t gone home yet. But her pause was brief; she didn’t stop drawing, only replied, “You haven’t gone home either.”
Bai Fanhao came in and sat at the desk in front of her. “I was reading, finished my homework, and when I came down I saw you were still here.”
Mu Qingxi didn’t answer, just continued drawing with focus.
Bai Fanhao stayed silent too, watching her and her artwork intently.
When she finished the last stroke, Mu Qingxi set down her pencil, picked up the drawing from her desk, and examined it carefully.
Bai Fanhao’s eyes were fixed on her drawing as well, filled with astonishment. The piece was extraordinary.
Though the picture was done in plain 2B pencil, without a trace of color, he could imagine the entire scene: snow falling from the sky, a sprite as pure as snow playing on the ground, gardens, trees, statues... It was the school itself, the resemblance unmistakable.
Mu Qingxi was satisfied with her work and, glancing up at Bai Fanhao’s dazed expression, suddenly let out a laugh.
Bai Fanhao stared wide-eyed at her drawing, completely transfixed. She had never seen him look so dumbfounded before—no sadness, no coldness, just pure shock and disbelief.
Her laughter jolted him from his reverie. When he came back to himself, he looked embarrassed, face flushed, which made her laugh even harder. She said, “Fanhao, you—you’re just too funny.”
Bai Fanhao chuckled awkwardly. “No, it’s just—I mean, well, anyway...”
Mu Qingxi’s laughter only intensified as she listened to his incoherent words. Seeing how awkward he was, she felt a little guilty for teasing him too much, so she suppressed her laughter and said, “That’s enough, let’s go home. We’d better hurry—I still have homework to do tonight.”
She quickly packed up her books and assignments. Bai Fanhao chatted with her absentmindedly as she did so, and in the end, after some back-and-forth, he ended up walking her home.
