After classes let out at noon, Mu Qingxi and Qin Yu had only just stepped out of the classroom when they saw Bai Fanhao waiting by the door. The moment she spotted Mu Qingxi, she came over to meet them.

"Mu Mu, what happened to you?" Bai Fanhao asked.

Mu Qingxi looked at her in confusion. "What do you mean, what happened?"

Bai Fanhao showed no impatience at all and asked with concern, "I was getting scolded in the hallway when I saw the three of you being taken into the office. Are you all right?"

At the mention of this, Mu Qingxi looked displeased. "If you were the one sent in, why don't you try it yourself? We stood there for a full hour and a half, and we had to listen to the headmaster drone on like a scripture recital. It was pure misery!"

Qin Yu also said angrily, "Exactly. If it weren't for Wang Feiyan, would we have been late? Why is her shadow behind everything? What rotten luck."

Mu Qingxi added without politeness, "Yes. With her around, we can forget about any peace."

Her words struck a chord with the others. Yes, if it hadn't been for Wang Feiyan, they wouldn't have run into so much trouble. In the first place, none of them were the sort to live by rigid rules.

But neither were they people who went looking for trouble. Ever since they had crossed paths with Wang Feiyan, nothing had gone smoothly for them; every day seemed to bring fresh misfortune.

There was truly wisdom in the saying that the more you hate something, the more it comes to you. For example, one of the things Mu Qingxi hated most right now was traffic congestion.

Looking at the endless stream of cars ahead, a sharp pain throbbed in her head. Could life not be this miserable? It was only the first day of winter break, and already the streets were jammed like this. What on earth was everyone doing?

Mu Qingxi stared ahead, her gaze unfocused. She thought of a few days ago, in a dream, when she had been trapped in a traffic jam. In that dream she had chosen to get out of the car, then started running through the flow of vehicles. It seemed as though she had glimpsed a person's silhouette. She had wanted to see clearly, but could not make out who it was.

In the dream, she had only heard a voice say, "He is the one who will keep you company for life. If you want to know who he is, then go forward."

Then she had gotten out and wandered among the moving traffic. Only after getting out had she realized she was wearing a white wedding gown, with white crystal high heels on her feet.

A horn blared.

The cars slowly began to move again.

Perhaps the shadow in her dream was someone she knew, because it had felt so familiar. Yet in the end she had never seen that person clearly. And after all, it had only been a dream.

Pulling herself back to reality, Mu Qingxi looked out the car window at the road, the vehicles, and the pedestrians. Everything was so hurried. She felt somewhat lost, though she herself did not know what she was lost about.

Her mind was crammed with formulas from mathematics, physics, and chemistry, with Chinese poetry and English vocabulary and grammar, yet these were all mixed together with little odds and ends of trivial matters.

Qin Yu had heard Wang Feiyan say that if Liu Jun could deal with Xi Haifei, then Xi Haifei would be his.

What she wanted to know now was what method Liu Jun planned to use, and when he would make his move. If she knew that, she could at least be prepared.

As Mu Qingxi walked through a small grove, thinking and thinking, she took out her phone and dialed a number. When the call connected, she said, "Old Hou, keep a close eye on Liu Jun. He has not been behaving lately. And that Wang Feiyan too—the girl I told you about."

Old Hou was sitting on the sofa in the office at the Seek Bar, his expression grave. "Xiao Mu, I was just about to tell you. Liu Jun has been gathering people lately, and he came to my place wanting to buy some things. And today he was asking our brothers about Xi Haifei and Bai Fanhao. What is going on?"

Mu Qingxi listened carefully to Old Hou's words, and her own face grew equally solemn as she thought about what exactly Liu Jun was trying to do.
