Chapter 139: The New Drug
Everyone fixed their gaze tightly on the operating room door, both eager and fearful for it to open.
At last, the door began to creak open. Shen Yali’s hand clenched Mu Yuncheng’s arm with all her strength, while Qin Shuhua gripped Bai Liye’s arm just as tightly.
A doctor wearing a green surgical cap appeared. He removed his blue mask, his expression grave as he asked, “Who is a family member of Bai Fanhao?”
Bai Liye patted his wife’s hand and replied, “We—we are Bai Fanhao’s parents. Doctor, what news do you have for us?”
The doctor opened a folder and pointed to a picture inside. “Look here. Bai Fanhao’s wound precisely cut into the left atrium of the heart. There is a puncture here. Moreover, the blade was coated with a large amount of a sedative drug. Given the quantity, it has become a poison.”
Hearing this, Qin Shuhua’s legs went weak and she nearly collapsed to her knees, sobbing, “Doctor, please, please save my son... doctor, I beg you... boohoo...”
Bai Liye stood stunned, unable to grasp how this happened. Although Fanhao was distant from him, he loved his son deeply, unwilling to see him suffer. He always wanted the best for him. How could this happen now?
Steeling himself, Bai Liye asked the doctor, “Doctor, how is my son now? What must be done to save him? Tell me—I will spare no expense to save him.”
As the gravity of the situation settled in, Shen Yali’s legs trembled even more. She nervously turned to Mu Yuncheng, who wore a deep frown. “Yuncheng, is Xiao Xi in the same condition? Is she? How is she really?”
“Don’t worry, Xiao Xi will be fine. The doctor hasn’t come out yet,” Mu Yuncheng replied, his heart in turmoil. He often stayed away from home, leaving his wife and child behind. Usually, he returned every few days. But this time it had been many days—and such a thing had happened. He was filled with regret, ashamed as the head of the family.
Just then, the operating room door opened again. A doctor wearing a white cap stepped out. Shen Yali hurried forward, anxiously asking, “Doctor, how is my daughter?”
The doctor removed his mask and said to Shen Yali, “The patient’s condition is not optimistic. The facial wound is one and a half centimeters deep and three centimeters long, and...”
Mu Yuncheng and Director Song, seeing Shen Yali about to collapse, quickly steadied her to prevent another fainting spell.
“And...?” Mu Yuncheng pressed in a low voice.
The doctor, seeing such an unprecedented injury on such a young girl, sighed deeply with regret. “Because the wound was left uncleaned for a long time, it has become infected with bacteria and shows signs of poisoning. I’m afraid...”
Even Director Song, unable to hold back, raised his voice sternly, “Afraid of what? Bring in the best specialists to treat her. She must recover fully!”
Though the doctor disliked the tone, he understood the deep concern. His voice grew sharper but he pressed on, “The main problem is we cannot yet identify the exact substance. It is a new drug. In small doses, it acts as a stimulant; in moderate doses, a sedative; but in large amounts, it becomes a poison.”
Director Song asked, “A drug? A new type?”
“Yes. Our hospital is researching it, and results should come soon. However, the patient’s facial wound must have the necrotic tissue surgically removed every three days. After three treatments, it should improve,” the doctor explained patiently.
Mu Yuncheng listened closely. Being a doctor himself, he asked, “Will the wound fully heal and restore her face to its original condition?”
