Why?

Bai Fanhao was also bewildered by Mu Qingxi’s smile, but he still brushed the snow off her face with his hand, angrily saying, “Get up, hurry home and get some sleep.”

Mu Qingxi looked at the angry Bai Fanhao, her smile fading, her gaze growing hazy, yet her eyes remained fixed on him. With a hint of confusion, as if speaking to herself, she murmured, “Why is it you? Why is it you who fills my mind?”

Hearing her words, Bai Fanhao replied, “Yes, why is it you? Why is my mind full of you? Haha, who is this ‘you’ you speak of? Certainly not me.”

Bai Fanhao paid no mind to Mu Qingxi’s confusion, nor to Xi Haifei crouched beside them, and continued brushing the snow off Mu Qingxi’s face.

When Mu Qingxi regained her senses again, she found herself lying in bed. Gazing at the familiar room, she knew she was at home. She remembered smearing her face with blood in the snow, and then, speaking to Bai Fanhao as if in a dream. But what happened after that?

She shook her head, tapped her forehead, and rubbed her temples hard with her fingers. “Ah, I can’t remember anything. What on earth did I say? Did I say something absurd?”

Mu Qingxi knew she cared deeply about this. She remembered what she had said, and worried whether her words might have been misleading, but she couldn’t ask directly. Never mind, she thought, she could only turn the page and pretend nothing had happened.

She got out of bed without bothering to make it and went to wash up, but the moment her feet touched the floor, she staggered and nearly fell. She quickly steadied herself with one hand pressed against the bed, gathering her composure.

“What’s going on? Why does my head hurt so much? Why can’t I remember what happened yesterday?” Mu Qingxi closed her eyes, pondering.

Stumbling toward the bathroom, she stood before the dressing mirror. The person in the reflection had a tangled mess of long hair. Slowly, her hand reached up to her face—pale skin, swollen eyes ringed with red veins.

Mu Qingxi slapped her cheeks gently, scooped some water and splashed it on her face, rubbing hard and sighing with relief, “Ah… that feels good!”

At that moment, Bai Fanhao sat in his own bedroom, brooding over what Mu Jingqi had said last night. The way she looked at him, the words she spoke—who was the “you” she referred to? Was it him, or was it Feng Han? Bai Fanhao sighed. “Mu Mu, what will it take for you to accept me?”

The phone rang. Bai Fanhao glanced at the caller ID: Feiyan. He pressed the answer button. As soon as the line connected, the voice on the other end spoke, “Fanhao, I’m at your door. Come out, I need to talk to you.”

Listening to the busy tone in the phone, Bai Fanhao frowned, wondering what Wang Feiyan wanted. He felt there was nothing left for them to discuss.

Suddenly, loud knocking echoed through the door.

Bai Fanhao sat in his chair, unmoving and silent, while outside, Wang Feiyan angrily pounded on the door, shouting, “Fanhao, I know you’re in there! Open up, I have something to say to you. Hurry! Open the door, Fanhao!”

After a long moment, a voice finally came from inside, “Wait a minute.”

Bai Fanhao was thoroughly irritated. He hated being pestered by girls—like stubborn glue that wouldn’t come off, truly exasperating.

Yet there was no choice. He rose and opened the door, looking at Wang Feiyan standing outside. Bai Fanhao said, “What is it? Speak!”
